    When you said "I'll have a little dessert" I thought you will just get one. But you brought five different desserts and added curry rice haha, that was hilarious.

    Hey Solo. Hope your hunger was satisfied. I noted that you said the dish of Ox Tongue cost over $17.00 USD. For $17.00 US which is about AUD $23.38. Strewth Mate, before the pandemic we could have bought a "truck load" of Ox Tongues for that price. The way the cook it in Japan however looks far more interesting than we do here in Australia. I look forward to more of your blogs today. Cheers mate!

    It is always amazing to see what peoples do with the same ingredients. In Germany, beef tongue is often cured, then lightly cooked and eaten with either horseradish sauce or Madeira sauce
    (made with Madeira wine). Completely different but also very tasty. I'm sure I would love the Japanese way too. Just like I love your videos.

    One thing that I have found interesting in your food videos is some of the offerings, particularly with the breakfast menus. Some of them seem a bit strange to western ideas of "breakfast foods".
    And I am not talking about local dishes that are just different traditional breakfasts. But for example in today's video we have a macaroni salad, and later a curry, neither of which I would ever see in a breakfast buffet. Same with the ice cream and such. And I noticed the same type of thing in some of your other videos as well.
    And I am not saying that it is wrong, I just find it interesting.

    I’m told that Japan’s import taxes on beef are lower on organ meats like tongue than on regular meat. Skirt steak, because it’s the diaphragm muscle, is considered an organ meat, and it’s difficult to get here in the United States because almost all goes to Japan. What’s sold as skirt steak here are similar cuts but not usually the real thing. Supposedly.

    • @beritbunny
      @beritbunny 2 года назад +1

      @@davidb8373 It’s actually (Spaghetti) “Napolitan/Naporitan”; “Neapolitan” probably got put in there by auto-correct. 😂 I know “Napolitan” is a name-reference to the Italian location of Naples (tho actually I’m unsure if “Neapolitan” is, also.)
      Napolitan is a (if memory serves) wartime/postwar dish made with what you have in a time of lack. I think wheat flour and pasta were brought in, and other shelf-stable things like ketchup and tinned meats. So, Napolitan as it is now is made using onions, green peppers, (little cocktail-ish) sausages (sliced), butter, probably a little consommé cube/powder, maybe a bit of oil, and ketchup. You finish the pasta in the sauce, and cook it rather soft.
      Basically, it’s Japanese food for some generations already. It’s a category called “Yushoku” (which also includes things that westerners think of as very Japanese, like Curry Rice, or Omurice; it MIGHT even include Ramen, too, though I’m a bit unclear, because Ramen is a localization/borrowed dish from China. I’m not sure if they think of Ramen as Yushoku, or if it has a different category to itself as a Chinese-influence menu.)
      Japanese-style Japanese food would be like, Miso soups, rice and pickles, grilled salted fish, of course sushi (but not really rolls with multiple ingredients and sauces. Those are things made up outside the country, mostly.), and is categorized as “Washoku”.
      If I remember, “yu” of Yushoku means “west”, so it’s “western food” vs. “Japanese food”

    Beef Tongue is harder to come by in NYC. Used to be many kosher jewish deli’s that carried it but they’ve disappeared over the years.
