WHAT IS THE POLICE OFFICER COMPETENCY-BASED VIDEO INTERVIEW?
- During the competency-based interview, you will be asked a series of five questions, one at a time.
- Each question will include points that you should consider in your answer.
- You will see a pre-recorded video of the question being posed, and then see both the interview question and some additional probing questions as text on the screen.
HOW LONG IS THE POLICE OFFICER VIDEO COMPETENCY-BASED INTERVIEW?
- Although the interview is not conducted in real-time, you do have a time-limit for presenting your answers.
- You will have one minute to prepare your answer, followed by a 5-minute window in which you must record your answer, in full.
- You will not be able to pause or re-record your answer.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED DURING THE POLICE OFFICER VIDEO INTERVIEW?
All of the questions will be situational based. This means that you will need to give a detailed account of when you have demonstrated the behaviour being asked for. Use the STAR technique to structure your answers!

I have a question related to the essential-competency interview. When creating study materials, should we look at the competencies listed by a specific police service and memorize using the star approach an answer for each of those competencies or do they usually go by the general competencies (commitment to learning, analytical thinking, etc)? Please let me know and thanks in advance.
Hi Richard. Thank you for taking the time to upload these free tutorials. I’m sure as with me many people are finding them very helpful. My question to you is I see a theme to your answers appearing, whereby they are very well structured but generally based around your experience in a team related work environment. I am a sole trader landscape gardener. I face many challenges in my work environment but non in relation to working as part of a team or where I face appraisal from a superior. I’m concerned that due to this I am going to struggle in constructing my responses to the questions and would value any advice you can give me.

Hi andy. One things that I would suggests it to also try to make it up. I know this might sound absurd but for me for example, having in mind that I am still at sixth form and that I do not yet have work experience, I need to relate most of my answers to my GCSE's and A Levels. Please let me know if this helps.

Hi, i have my online interview this week. I was just wondering what I am meant to do if i answer the question in quicker than the time provided. will i have the ability to submit that answer or have to wait out the time? if i have to wait it out, what’s the best course of action
Yes, once you have completed your answer there is an option to proceed :)

I wanted to ask a quick question, If I find one the questions were similar to another question could I use the same scenario?
My advice would be to use a different scenario if possible :)
I feel like situational based questions sometimes can be discouraging. I want to be a police officer but i feel like i havent experienced enough situations which they are asking for :(
I get that! But try not to worry as you don't need to have been in the situations, instead focus on how you would handle them if they were happening around you. I don't think so, the guildlines say you can't note things down during the test, but I am aware you are allowed to take notes in
Hopefully you will reply. I am joining the MDP (Minister of Defence Police) and they are different from the police so I was wondering if these videos are still applicable or wether the recruitment process is too different for these videos to be useful. If they are not can some videos be made about the MDP recruitment process.

I believe you get an overall time now, and a set time to answer the questions. So typically you will have some time to prepare :)

Hi Richard, What is the best way to pass the assessment to become a PCSO, when I know me writing and grammar are not very good but I can speak tow other languages Arabic and Kurdish. I am telling you this because I know I can make a different in the community aria.

I haven't been in the job. i am on the second stage but i don't know what i can talk about in the interview
You can discuss why you want to be a police officer and why you feel you would be a good fit for the role :)
What happens if you can only answer for a couple of minutes and not the full 5 minutes??
You may still be fine - just make sure you give as much evidence as possible :)

This is so hard who can have such answer. Not all of us worked in office for years to have such experiences to talk about. You always create answers about people working in office background, leading people etc. It's not helpful
That's complete rubbish... it's about turning your life experiences into useable examples. For example, in this video I teach people how to use situations they have witnessed to answer difficult behavioural interview questions: ruclips.net/video/sleEVUxIFU4/видео.html - also, if you don't have the experience needed yet, why don't you go out there and get it? You could volunteer for starters.
