    Thank you for doing this excellent flosstube. I have laughed so much, the interruptions from dogs/husbands so funny and true life for us all. Your true friendship is so obvious and an honour to be invited to sit and stitch with. I'm stitching the small stretch dragon that Arica recommended and I love it.. I hope you both keep doing your separate videos and these joint ventures, love them all.

    What a lovely, relaxed, friendly flosstube! I've been watching in stages over the last few days and it's been like sitting down with friends doing some stitching - brilliant! And thank you so much for your lovely words about my Two Dragons piece and my handdyeing my overdyed threads and fabric. I'm still plugging away with the grey but there have been moments I just wanted to grab the orange and go for it!
    Loved the format with the two of you chatting. It's so relaxed. It was interesting, Sam, when you said your solo flosstube was more like a presentation. That is the difference exactly - and both styles are enjoyable and very watchable so please keep doing both if you can. Happy stitching, Kim ❤

    I enjoyed this format. I felt like I was actually stitching with you. It was truly special. I also liked seeing your stitching styles and setups.
    Arica, you're stitching on red fabric: Don't worry about your back! If you need to carry, it won't show through on the front.
    I also enjoyed the sampler segment and the pieces you highlighted. I was working on HATS's A Thomas 1882--The Nellies while watching. It has elephants 🐘 🐘 which makes me smile every time I see it.
    Happy Stitching to you both.

    Thanks Samantha and Arica. I enjoy this type of video as an extra to the regular flosstubes. It is really nice to stitch along with the two of you. I didn’t watch as much as I listened to the two of you and looked up when you were pointing something out. Arica you were never alone. As I’m reading that back it sounds like a line from a scary movie lol. I totally agree with you Samantha that my desire to stitch changes with each flosstube I watch. Good thing I have several wips. Arica you should try a HAED, but if you are concerned about what the back of your work looks like I caution you that there is lots of confetti and your back will look very similar or more “messy” than your dragon. Aimee Stewart designs are loaded with confetti to get all those gorgeous details. You could have to use 50 or more different threads in one 100 square block if you go with max colour to get the additional detail. For my first HAED I decided to go with a storykeep, a couple stockings and an ornament to get a feel for what I liked and the projects were smaller the the regular sized projects. I’ll post my progress on my storykeep in the year of dragon SAL. It is an Aimee Stewart and has a dragon. I’d had already started my storykeep on Boxing Day so I started my Randal Spangler on February 10th as my “official” dragon. Hit my 10% on my QS tonight while watching/listening to this flosstube. Hopefully I’ll be posting my 20% this time next month. Thanks for hosting this wonderful SAL. Got my pattern and gorgeous Rocky Mountain Needleminder Dragon but no project bag yet. I’m hoping I feel like going back in my sewing room soon. See you ladies next month and on your regular flosstubes.

    I did enjoy this a lot! I also had a thought pop up when you talked about a 'round robin'. If you were to state the 'intention' of your piece - like alphabet - birds - country - oriental. ... etc and do it as a band sampler type thing... would that work? You may have to have an extra length or limit the band size to a maximum - like stay within 25 spaces - but this way each person who worked on it would have to stretch themselves. Give a colour parameter even - like fall, summer, blues predominant... This would be instead of doing something already charted as one piece. Everyone could use parts of other charts, but they would all come together as one piece. If everyone said what their intentions were at the beginning - and stated the colours then whoever was waiting for it to come around to them would have had time to look ahead at what they wanted to do as their section. BUT you wouldn't get to see what the next person did until the finish and it came back to you. Maybe sign a pledge that you would still be friends no matter the end. I taught quilting for a long time and the round robins were best if undirected except for theme and colour. Or you do it in squares, leaving so much space in-between for you to put in borders. Depends on how many participants maybe. Just an idea. You are so much better to listen to than politics. Thank you!

    Arica - I've seen a lot of band samplers stitched on 32ct. A friend stitched "Little green acorns" on 32 and switched out some of the acorn bands for Scots thistles and Irish shamrocks - to reflect all her heritage. If you like colour - you should check out some of the Polish band samplers - a colour festival!

    The castle is a good introduction to Theresa Wentzler. It’s a reasonable size, the blends aren’t too overwhelming, no 1 over 1, the back stitch isn’t super intricate, no speciality stitches, you can do it on almost any color of fabric, no huge intensive border.
    For the round robin, perhaps a dimensions kit round robin. Almost everyone has one of those hanging around.

      Thanks for tuning in Tracy :) Yes the animals can be a distraction for sure and even my dog can make me jump when she decides to bark - that’s the trouble with them; we have no idea when they will hear something they feel they need to act on. Perhaps in the future we can edit that out? Anywho, thanks for watching and I’m glad you enjoyed the episode :)

    Ladies, I so enjoy seeing you together, but I also love the formats of your individual flosstubes! I think maybe once a month a stitching episode, like this one, would be amazing! I don’t have anyone to stitch with, and when watching a regular Flosstube, I have a hard time stitching because I want to see what is being shown on screen. I am not stitching a dragon because I have time crunch on a gift I’m giving and I made so much progress today! It really got me back in the rhythm! Arica, I love your bags and portfolios. The Hop Hop Hurray fabric would be fabulous for both!

    So I got at least 9 kitted project with dragons (only one started) that I can think about straight away. Probably some more as well. x)
    If I wasn't so slow at stitching I would definitely join. And even do a 12 dragon starts for the year.
    But I better not. X)
    You have inspired me to check out Owlforest again - always a dangerous thing.
    Sadly, living in Europe where the boycott of Russian companies due to Russias invasion of Ukraine is still ongoing, I can't buy the lovely new dragon pattern mentioned. Probably for the best for me wallet. X)

    Arica - you are not talking to yourself - you are talking to all of us looking and listening. You are not alone. Samantha - For a round robin, I have seen a lot of people choosing a patter that can easily divided into four - for a 4-person round robin for instance. A pattern like some of the Ink Circles that are geometric and each of the 4 sections is a repeat of the first one. Each person picks their fabric and floss and you send your stitched quarter to the next person and you send each other the piece and at the end you have a piece stitched by 3 other stitch friends. Arica - how about using 20 count one over one for the band sampler. Would your mother be ok with that?

    I have a question. I was just out of the blue given a lady’s old Teresa Wentzler pattern called Unicorn. I stitch full coverage all the time but the patterns I buy are pdf, no back stitch required on 20 count Aida. This is an old hand drawn pattern that looks like a nightmare. The cover model was stitched on 25 count Lugana. But it does give design sizes for 14/18/22 count. My question is, can these special stitches (one quarter stitches for the back stitching on the black fabric) be done on Aida? Ordinarily I stitch 2 threads over 1 box. No half or quarter stitches. If this will be difficult on Aida I will just donate the pattern. I’m not attached to it. Thank you in advance for any help!

    • @annryan8274
      @annryan8274 4 месяца назад +3

      TW patterns *can* be done on Aida - and you can get a good result. The challenge - as you've pointed out - is the partial stitches.
      It is possible to split the threads of Aida to do these. Working with a regular sharp needle makes thus easier. Or you can just omit them - they're usually there to add a little more colour interest or coverage. But from normal vireing distance - you probably wouldn't be able to see the difference.
      You could have a go - stitching from the pattern onto a scrap of Aida. And see if you like working with blends (two different colour strands stitched together); if you can cope with a lot of confetti stitching; and if you're happy splitting the canvas for the partial stitches.
      TW patterns are beautiful and can give you a challenge - but they're not something everyone enjoys. And that's fine. There are so many stitching options out there - something for everyone!

    • @denisejeffries2675
      @denisejeffries2675 4 месяца назад +2

      Thank you for your thoughtful reply! I do A LOT. Of confetti stitching so no problem there. I think the TW partial stitch on the pattern is crucial because she is using it as some of the back stitching effect so I doubt skipping it is optional on that pattern. I have so many other amazing full coverage to do that I think I will pass on this and just donate it. Thanks again for your help!

      All good information here. I agree with the above but I think stitching it on Aida will make an already challenging piece that much more challenging. Is this her Pegasus pattern?? If so, that and her peacock tapestry are her 2 most difficult pieces to stitch in which case I would def recommend an evenweave

      I stitched the Unicorn on black 14ct Aida years ago as that’s what came in the kit I had. You just have to pierce hole in the middle of the threads to do ½ and ¾ stitches. I didn’t really know any different back then so just did it 😄🤎

    I love the idea of a round robin. I’d love to work on individual choices. If there’s interest I’m happy to help coordinate the project.
    I’m looking at a Shannon Christine or Owl Forest for a couple pieces that I’m interested in working on in this manner.
