For my big projects I put floss away bags in a plastic storage box that fits index cards. The card makes them stand up nicely. I have used photo boxes, snap close shoe boxes, prettt boxes as long as they fit the index cards. I also put mixes in their own bag so both colors in one bag and then I have them single as well. A few extra skeins won’t break the bank and saves time.

Hi, Samantha. Love watching your video. I am not a Mira stitcher but do enjoy seeing you work on them. I just picked up a tip from Dena at Half Stitch Cross Stitch. When she does a project with blended threads she spends time at the beginning of the project making each of the blends and then wraps the blends on their own bobbins. So when she is stitching there is no slow down. The blend needed is already to stitch with. Christine from Ontario

Hi Lisa, I’m so glad you are finding inspiration while we spend time together. Dimensions kits have a learning curve that just takes time to understand. Once you spend the time with it you will find it quite enjoyable!! I hope you will give it a go. I know the stocking I’m working on will likely take a few more years, I’m just going to enjoy the process. Learning how to complete the stitch into the finished stocking is going to be a whole new experience. Maybe we will go through it around the same time!!

Hello Samantha 😊 When I buy a kit I leave the threads/flosses as they come. Up to now the kits I've bought had either thread bands or, I don't know how to call this, it was like many bobbins connected. Between those two I prefer the band.
Now when I kit up a pattern myself, I use thread drops and I make them myself, because I haven't found any nice ones without high shipping cost. So I tried making my own floss/thread drops with gift cards, colorful or plain where I glued some beautiful paper on them, but that was a lot of work, and now I found a pack of beautiful middle weight carton that I will have to cut to the size I want and do the same as I did with the gift tags. I haven't tried the floss bags yet. Isn't it time consuming to use them, since every time you need to take the floss you need out and put it back so they won't get mixed up? Oh I forgot to say that I also bought two - three packs of DMC floss number stickers which I use on the tags/drops. I find the floss drops easier, for me, to use up to now, but I don't like that the floss get tangled and I don't know how to describe it correctly, but if they hang there for long, there is the danger to look a bit "worn out". There is a small business on etsy selling plastic floss drops with the color and the number printed on them, and they have almost all the floss companies, but they are pricey to buy and even worse to ship. So I am looking for a better, yet affordable solution. Looking forward to get new ideas from your viewers 😜 Looking forward for your next video 🥰🧵🪡

Hi - love your Miribilia’s - Have stitched “Red” and “September Sapphire” - have a few others in progress and they are beautiful when completed. I don’t use Floss Away bags for DMC thread - DMC is a strong cotton so I think they can hold up on their own.- but I would bombinate and store in a plastic box for when needed or project used. (Personally, I would rather save my Floss Away bags for Silk threads because of the delicate style of the threads ). I have done many cross stitch kits, Dimension kits, Eva Rosenstand, and even for larger charts I have a system.... - these kits would come with a color chart. I would sort the colors by the chart system and so I know what colors is needed to be used - I would then take an index card and punch hole the numbers in order number on each card for quicker access of the larger chart (may be a few cards) - and take only the needed index cards as I worked - (and much easier than pulling out of a floss away bag too). If the color would run out, I would refill the needed color - this way I can safely put aside the larger chart threads until needed. As for blended colors - I would make a separate punch hold with these colors so I could easily work with them. This process helps me work my cross stitch many a time! Hope this helps. Love your enthusiasm.

Love your videos! I’m mainly a DMC stitcher and keep all my floss on pip & chip bobbins, pulling the ones needed for a project and keeping them in a plastic box. However, when I’m stitching a kit, Dimensions or otherwise, I keep them on the provided thread organizer, which works well for me. Regarding your stitching accident, several years ago, I was putting in the final stitches on ‘The Last Supper’ on Ancient. It was on my lap when I needed to jot something down. I pulled the cap off the pen and ink went everywhere! I ran to the sink and rinsed like crazy. Thankfully, most of it came out, but what didn’t blended right into the fabric!😅

I keep my floss on the card board and braid it to keep it from tangling and then just pull out the thread from the top that I need(one at a time if using multiple). I punch holes on the top and loop my used threads through the holes until they are needed next time. I also like to wash my Aida before starting to help soften it. I make floss cards for kits. I write the symbol and or/color number/s so I know who’s who. Depending on the number of cards I might color code the card and identify on the symbol sheet what color is on what card. Blends often get their own separate card so there’s usually a blend ready to go.

    • @texadianstitcher
      @texadianstitcher 10 месяцев назад +1

I’m working on the mermaid and I strongly suggest making floss cards for the blends. Grab a few pieces of cardboard or card stock and hole punch enough holes for the blends. I’ve got about 20 blends per card and it’s about 5 cards worth. Anything not a blend (and the floss for blends) is in a box.
I cut a length of floss for each half of the blend & attach it to a card. Run out of the blend, cut new lengths. Once you get near the end, start moving the colors back to its home bobbin or bag or use them in other blends as needed so you don’t end up with 10 straggly pieces of 930.
And mermaids border looks intimidating, but I’m finding it the easier part of the design so far.

You could also use Avon Bubble bath. If you can get the unsented is the best but they all will work. Love all you work!

Hi! Your stitching is beautiful! Especially your mirabilias and Nora’s. I’ve still not got a lot going on mine. The chart is so daunting! I wish it were in pages. How do you handle the pattern? Thanks for sharing!

Great question Tami!! I use a large magnetic board to hold my pattern. Also using the magnets as a ruler to help guild where I am. I start right in the middle of the design and find the darkest/boldest symbols and start stitching those first. They are the darkest colours in the design and it makes picking up the stitch again and finding my place easy peasy. Give it a try !! Thank you so much for watching, see you again soon.

I was working on TW’s Stoeyteller and another TW at the same time. I used bags and for the blended threads I would put both colours together in the bag.
I finished the one design and was being so good about putting threads away returning the blends to their original bags. After all that work I retuned to stitching Storyteller only to find that I had out the wrong group of threads away 🤦🏻‍♀️. Not sure how I managed to mess up but I had to go back and pull all the threads for Stoeyteller before being able to stitch.

Haha Sherry!! I could 100% see myself doing that as well. I actually enjoy the satisfaction of putting threads away after the pattern is done however, I simply do not enjoy the pulling of colours as much. Thank you so much for joining me again, it was nice to hear from you 😊. Take care and happy stitching.

Hi Samantha, I am working on my first Mira and need some advice. Do you use one strand of Kreinik or two? I am working on 32 count. Also not sure if I should save it and the beading until I'm all done with the stitching. Thanks

I stitch in hand and stitch on both Aida and linen. I roll up the fabric on the left side as I stitch farther on the right and I do notice the fabric softening. I just pay attention to how hard I pull on top part of the stitch and I don’t see any difference. Now I do railroad the bottom and top leg of my stitch, I don’t know if that makes a difference in the tension

TWs Mermaid is gorgeous, but the border has always been the turnoff for me.

I get it, they can be repetitive. I think of like taking a break from the main design however, I have never completed a TW. Sooo let’s see how I feel in a few years if I still feel the same way. haha 😂
