- 2023 Porsche Macan T review by The Straight Pipes. The Porsche Macan is putting down 261 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque from a 2L 4 cylinder turbo. At $90,150 CAD, would you take it over the Porsche Macan, Porsche Macan S, Porsche Macan GTS, BMW X4, BMW X3, Mercedes GLC, Audi SQ5?

Portland, JAMAICA in the Building!!! 👑🇯🇲🔥💥🌟⭐💯💎
Fun fact: when not using launch control, the Macan T is just as quick as a Honda Odyssey.
That's because they want you to get one of the V6 models.
Then who will buy the GTS ?
Fun fact: with launch control its slower than a honda rowdyssey.
Honda will run off the road
Yeah I’m sure it also handles the same around the corners
90K CAD for the 4 banger now is just wow... I have even see the S spec out there hovering around almost 120K. What a time.
Get used to it because it ain't gonna get any better.
That’s a third Volvo’s lineup for a long while now…
C class amg 4 cylinder. Mercedes new sl will come in 4 too. I hate 4s on cars over 50k. Makes no sense
Lol this is a joke. I give up on being an auto enthusiast.
@@thomasgarbaty7374 bro 4 cylinder. Alpine a110. That I accept. Porsche no. Also alpine sounds better than the 2.0 Porsche
This would’ve been really cool with the rs3’s turbo 5
I was waiting for Yuri to say the car is for those who want, ‘not too fast, not too furious.’
Anyway, keep up the great work!
I like how you guys really get into how the car drives. So many other channels talk about all the features and spend too much time talking about aesthetics of the headlights.
The Porche look is so iconic. Im glad they arent changing it so dramatically everyyear.
I have a 2023 S and it is well worth the additional cost because you get the 2.9L V6 which is such a great engine.
Awesome car, but one year too early! The 24 version has a v8!
@@jamesdecker4166 the Cayenne does but not the Macan.
@@jamesdecker4166 yea, the new Cayenne S comes with the V8. Although the Macan S is still quicker to 60 because it is lighter and has the PDK.
@@jamesdecker4166 2.9L can get up to 500hp with a chip and it will weigh less and handle better than a v8. If handling is a priority, a V8 should only be installed in a mid-engine layout.
My 21 GTS has the same engine and it is a dream.
Great review guys as always and I totally get yuris theory and why the price is so much but as well like everything else your also paying for the fact your sitting in a Porsche just the name it self is expensive and when you think of Porsche you think money expensive you don’t think cheap at all with Porsche so I get it it’s all about perception and the way you think about what people drive
That fly by right before Yuri was about to say his theory just cracked me up
I got the APR stage 1 tune for this from the dealership and it is pretty fast now. Have been told that it is now quicker than the S
First, love you guys! I bought a 23 black on black Macan T for myself. First Porsche at age 66 as my daily driver. I live in a city and like the quickness, small size, and gas mileage. I think it is fun to drive, fast enough, and looks awesome.
Congrats
Did you go for the standard interior with the pinstripe seats? Air suspension?
In any event, enjoy your Porsche in good health!
@@nateisright I’ve got a T too. With the pinstripe seats and Air. It’s great.
Actually on latin countries there is a price difference of 30k from the macan T vs the S. So thinking on import taxes globally it makes sense to keep the 4 cyl
Macan't see spending so much on a 6 second 0-60.
Porsche is never about HP per $ - that's what BMW is for. The Porsche premium is for handling, driver engagement, dealer experience.
I was a BMW guy for years then went to Porsches and driving experience is so much better. X3 M40i feels terrible after driving a Macan GTS.
But yes if you're focused on accel and hp per $, Porsche is never the answer. For me the thrill of a acceleration got old and I cared more about handling, steering feel, etc. Just depends what you're looking for.
Other factor is target customer. Avg Macan buyer has $400K household income. They're looking for the best compact sporty SUV and are not very pricey sensitive.
@@The_Stanman Exactly. We cross-shopped X3 vs GLC vs Macan. Power is comparable, sound is relative (imho GTS V6 sounds better than 40i and 43amg) but the handling and driver feedback is in another league. That thing flew thru corners like my friends m340i! So we ended up buying 21’ GTS, the best crossover up to that date.
waiting for the macanever with 0-60 in 20 seconds
Edit: for 300k
@evanstanley3278 if they're not price sensitive why are they looking at the budget macan instead of the cayenne?
I wish I had those seats in my S. 8 way adjustable but perfect size side bolsters. The regular 8 ways don't have the nice upgraded bolsters like the T.
Comes with the GTS alignment too!
The T's raison d'etre is slight handling improvement from the lighter engine-momentum driving. Pricewise, it t makes sense if you don't add any options. But spend your money on an S without the air-suspension.
Happy with my 2021 S-Air-suspension would have been nice; as would the exhaust; but this would have taken the price well over $80k so I would have bought an Audi Q8 instead. Intentionally did not get a 2022 so I could keep the physical buttons; taking it in for the 20,000 mile service on Tuesday.
We got 21’ GTS for the exact same thing. The interior looks som much better than the new one. Idk what they were thinking.
Another reason was that the GTS from 21’ would be S in 22’ without the suspension and traction upgrades, so we got late 21’.
So happy for your 21’ S. Wonderful car that is.
Great video
*Wife just got a 2024 Macan S with the Chronograph option. It was 94K. V6 Turbo is where its at.*
I laughed so hard at 13:10 when the guy listened to „I woke up in a new Bugatti“ way too loud 😂😂
The song is edited in. It’s a popular meme on tiktok when something drives by fast they edit in that song
I thought you made the continental shoe thing up until I saw it 😂😂 great plug haha
Macans are pretty good. Especially roasted with sea salt, or with other mixed German nuts.
My addidas ultraboost 19 with continental rubber makes squeky noises as it makes contact with the pedals and weathertechs after an indoor car washes too.
Continental just put their name on the shoes and didn't develop the rubber
love those beautiful analog gauges❤
I love the performance (handling) aspect of the T, but I hate (yes hate) the T specific styling.
I am surprised Porsche has managed to program some pops and bangs for that engine :D I have seen some other reviews especially on highway for the pulls, which come in quite tough with the weight of the car, but none the less - if it's your daily city runner, I guess it's allright.
Sounds really good in the video, how does it sound in real life?
The yellow colour really pops on the porsches!
Imagine paying $80k for what's essentially a slower Golf R.
I'd much rather pay more money for a slower Porsche then less money for a faster Golf.
@@ricklee3 I’d rather gamble with a 996/997
That is why the S is the trim to get
When the paint job costs that much the car is actually a steal
@@sanzserif no markups in Canada :)
I got a problem with Porsche looks when they take an engine in the front because they have to open up for air intakes for radiators, intercoolers and stuff.
Nice color and fun to drive I’ll get the used one
Looks like Signal Yellow? I love it. Now back to being broke and facing reality.
I don't think you know how cheap your car prices are. In Denmark the basic Macan starts from 253.000 CAD!!! 1.300.000 DKK. PS LOVE YOUR VIDS!
Perfect for most people, who really needs more performance?? Smaller engine = better handling and daily fun. And analog gauges ❤ I would choose this over all the other Macans...
Problem is Porsche people are all about bragging rights
Have you even driven them? Lol. I can say that the four cylinder is definitely not it.
@@ilanbandary4435 No. it's not a 911 or Cayenne Turbo GT it's a small Sporty SUV that competes against BMW and Audi Sport SUV's and better at that. As the cheapest Porsche on the Market what else do you expect?
a toyota corolla is as perfect for most people
I ordered one on Saturday, test drove both 3L and 2L, 2 was fast enough for most situations and with active exhaust sounded almost as fruity under acceleration and with the rest of the options it actually cost the same as a base GTS!!!
If you are paying 9k for paint I’m getting carmine red, Forrest green metallic. If it had a really cool pts I bet the boys would have said it semi made sense
LOL i liked the interjection to insult the i5 design. I agree as an i4 driver.
We loved the i4
Insane price tag for that wow
I'm familiar with S, GTS, models, where does T fit in?
I wish designers would listen to folks saying we don’t like digital dash’s
What is status of Corvette?? Did i miss your build up? I saw it on dyno and you were buying upgrades but no build series and its finished?
There’s an entire build series. It’s done. I still own it and drive it
Funny how you guys said it could be a step up from a X3...so we have a 1st gen X3 (2004) and while I drove it for awhile, it's been my mom's main car more recently (along with her 2010 E class), and she wants to get one more car before she will stop driving...her dream when she was younger was to get a Porsche (when auto shows would give brochures, we would ogle at the 911's from the 90s, in a light blue), so she was considering a Macan, but she is leaning towards the current X3, due to the trunk space.
Yeah just for handling. X3 way more space
4 cylinder true luxury! 😀
nice yellow golf r
Guys make a video about Mitsubishi outlander I want to buy it and need your opinion
Just get a Chip on it for $1500 and it will be similar speed to a S but cheaper, Looks like a GTS (as the T is basically a GTS spec besides Engine and wheels) and you'll have the perfect looking, priced, fuel efficient and Handling Macan out there. It just won't be the most powerful drag Macan but so be it.
Id rather take an older macan turbo or gts anyday
Intro music is better. I may subscribe now.
i dont care i just love the Macan love the face also GTS for me thanks!
If I'm getting a Macan it has to have ACC...
This kind of car with special paint is very popular in Vancouver since they are sooo mannny rich kids
yes the 19~21 front looked better IMO
So are you guys going to do the brake pedal / shoe squeak test from now on? 😂
Called “The Squeak Test” replacing “The Box Test”
Unpopular opinion, I actually like the Macan T. Just not the value of this PTS Speed Yellow one.
I have changed my mind on SUVs. They are great for loading small children in baby seats but this car as a sedan (or fastback) would be twice as good to drive.
Problem is fitting all of their stuff in the tiny trunk
Panamera Sport Turismo 👌
Wagons. The best.
Drive a new Macan GTS and get back to me 😎
You said it's a step up from a Lexus or Acura but would you actually take a base or T over either of those for a daily?
Over an rdx or rx for sure
absolutely ! macan iis a real turning heads
Awesome 90k four cylinder!
Power isn’t everything and this car would be perfect for most of asia where engine displacement determines roadtax and insurance. Enough power but with tons of options it makes for the perfect family car. The macan however is pretty tight in the back, its okay but will get uncomfortable after a few hours
I don't know what it is, but every time I see one of these in public, that black stripe throws me off. It makes the car seem cheaper than it is.
Carbon brake pedal, nice touch.
Reminds me of Bumblebee from the original 80’s transformers. Modern day bug.
Isnt the Cayenne base price the same as this macans as tested price? If that is the case I rather have the Cayenne
Cayenne went up $10,000 base this year.
@@watchreport damn!
As an employee at Porsche, I have to say the Macan T is a great option for an entry level Porsche that you can drive every day. It handles very well for an SUV, and that's coming from a Mercedes owner.
It probably gets decent fuel economy too. Those EA888's are pretty efficient tbh.
better get an audi qs3 instead
@@janushomer9111 dont have the sq3 in north america
Just get the base model or go for an S or GTS if you want to spend more. The former handles well enough for an SUV.
Yuri....the Oracle strikes again
This Macan or an Audi SQ5 fully loaded?
That front end is asking me Why So Serious?
Is this a same engine EA888 as Golf, S3, A3, A4, A5, Tiguan
yes but Porsche Tuned version of it
I love how the Macan s drives, the look is just ok and the interior is small for an SUV. I have a Tesla Performance Y...horrible suspension, no sunroof, no Sirius but...I love not needing gas. I would never buy a T but seriously considering an S..I am a bit tired of driving a computer and hate the damn hard ride. Gotta say, I'm a bit confused...note i have had a Tesla S as well.
Front end: O O

Not a fan of the black trim on the side and the updated rear diffuser. Makes it look cheap and even worse when it fades.
Fast X was 💩 btw. Jason Momoa came across like the Joker. It's F & F not Batman..
Love our base Macan! But the T would be better with its upgraded suspension. I would buy one for sure. The 6-cyl doesn't feel faster in daily driving but the extra weight on the nose is quite noticable so I prefer the 4-cyl.
I don't get how people say this lol. The 6 cylinder is so much more torquey especially down low where its most noticeable, especially in the city. Justifying your four cylinder purchase lol. I drove both and I had to go with the macan turbo.
@@jonathanandrews2188 Don't hate, any purchase can be justifiable. The 6 cylinder is heavier at the front and feels less nimble as a result. Honestly the 4 cylinder may just feel better for city driving/short commuting because of this. Gas mileage in the 4 banger is going to be better too. For highway passes, it might make sense to get the bigger engine, but really, if you can't make a calculated pass in this car, then you are doing something wrong. If I were spending the type of money to purchase a Turbo, I would have taken a peak at the Cayenne. Even if the base is no where near as fast, it's going to feel more of a luxury utility SUV in comparison.
@@jonathanandrews2188 And I don't understand the need for 400hp just to set the cruise control at 75 on the highway... Its not a track car, so setting lap times is irrelevant, and theres no unlimited speed Autobahn here. The 4cyl has almost 280ftlbs of torque, which is as much as a 4Runner with its 6cyl that everyone loves. 4000lbs vehicles with 250hp/250tq have more than enough power for everything, even accelerating quickly up steep grades at high altitudes.
Almost all my driving is around town in 25-45mph zones, so big power is completely irrelevant there too.
I tow my racecar with the 4cyl too and it gets 20mpg at 70mph while towing 3000lbs, which is well above average towing mpg.
I get the impression that the concept of "underpowered" is completely lost of people these days... It wasn't long ago that most cars were under 100hp and had 0-60 times in the 15 second plus range.
@@stevemartegani why are you comparing a Macan to a 4 runner?
I’ve owned a 4 runner and a Tacoma and I have no idea what point you’re trying to make. If you’re dishing out this kind of money for 260 HP, you’re nuts. The Macan disguises weight unbelievably well for an suv. I bet you barely actually notice it unless you’re absolutely ripping around corners. Which you’re not doing based on your city driving argument.
@@jonathanandrews2188 Nobody buys PTS Macans, the price in this video is overinflated because of it. We paid $56k, but it was June 2020 and 8% off MSRP.
Driving around town in the Suburbs is literally 50% turns, so handling is indeed significantly more important than horsepower.
Why not compare it to a 4Runner? Roughly the same size (had to be under 190 inches to fit in the garage) and only a 5000lbs towing capacity while the Macan is 4400lbs. 4runners were in the $40-50k price range which is what we were shopping in, but the Macan was so much better in every way than anything in that price bracket it was worth the few grand jump.
US$100.000 base price (no optionals) in Brazil... LoL
Spot on….this car is not for the automotive enthusiast. Why else would you buy this over an S at $82k.
This is the car for my mother
I'm getting that and then tuning that EA888 engine.
And it's going on BFG ties. 😃
Where you can tuning ea888 on macan?
Give advice please
The color looks like a standout but I would spring for a S instead. It'll satisfy in handling and performance and is the "sweet spot" in the line up.
And have to change wheel bearings every 50-70k km
ranger raptor review when?
Porsche for the newbsss
Carbon fiber brake pedal arm?!?
Yeah a PTS on a Macan T or hell even a S doesnt make sens, didnt even splurged on a PTS for my 23 Macan GTS, special color at 3k are ok, but even a PTS on a Macan GTS is slightly over 10% of the car price, cant make that up
$13k for the paint? How much for a sunroof?
13 grand for yellow paint? Wow. $90K for a 2 litre turbo?! Something is rotten in the state of Stuttgart.
They could have at least made it 300+ hp
That's what the faster are for
YEAH!! WHAT U SAID!! GTFOH WIT' DAT BULL! I wouldn't pay for ANY PORSCHE UNDER 300 HP @ THAT PRICE! FOH!! but YURI'S theory is a good 1 tho'. Can't imagine a 17-20y.o. who doesn't RESPECT SPEED
@@Birmingham_racing I mean the Porsche Macan s has 375 hp. They could have made this as powerful as the golf r with 315 hp or at least 300 hp since it cost that much
I've got the same car with a ECU remap for $1500 and its making min 290HP at the engine.
@@ricklee3is it safe for the car?

Oh there’s lots
Surprised there were no pacman references
Wish it had the digital gauge
J-Man this off topic but a what Continental tires that you recommend for a 2013 f-150 xl with 5.0 Coyote engine in it?
Probably TerrainContact H/T
Why don't you ad a Kia Sportage i
It's fast
Maserati Grecale exists though. I just hope Maserati works on the front end...then it would be near perfect
I actually love the way Grecale looks, but one big big issue I have with Maserati is the way how their infotainment outdates and seeing how futurustic their new cockpit is, I am really curious how long it will last. Especially knowing that Porsche is not much better and they are already 3 gens in on Macan.
The new Maseratis, a bad ass, but the last one I seen was over $240,000.
@@tax905972 Grecale base costs around 76 000 EUR here in EU, with options and good spec 100 000+ EUR.

This is a nice improved audi Q. I love it.
Expensive golf
This car as is should be priced at the base price and nothing more.
I have a ‘22 Macan S in Miami Blue with 21” wheels and that paint gets a lot of compliments. The S has plenty of power and far more than most people need. It is the sweet spot. The GTS has 59 more horsepower and 0-60 times of only about .3 of a second faster so it’s not really that much faster. I think you buy the GTS mainly for the badge and I was told it has a rougher ride due to its tighter suspension.
The base and T versions with the 4 cyl. is all that most people need. One complaint that I have is with the hood over the analog tach gauge. With the standard gray dials, the hood casts a shadow over the gauge and makes it hard to see the numbers on the dial. I wish I had ordered lighter colored dials as an option. Also, I hate the haptic controls and wish there were more buttons but there is nothing I can do about that. My S is loaded and priced like most GTS models. I gave up the extra power for more of the options and am glad I did.
It’s a great handling car with excellent performance and is the class of the segment in my opinion. It is a Porsche.
The S and GTS share the same engine, you're one ECU tune away from having a GTS.
the S is definitely the "sweeeeeeet spot" after the 2022 gen.
@@hkayani you are correct but I don’t want to void the warranty.
I’ve owned one for 4 months now. It handles better than the macan S due to lighter weight at the front and is plenty fast. 5 seconds to 60 according to Car and driver. It has a unique look and gets comments and likes and questions from lots of people. It has a very muscular look and drives like a dream. Inside it is very high end and upscale. It’s an awesome compact suv. It is also lower than the S and has air suspension and sports crono package that the Macan S doesn’t have.
I have air suspension on my S
So do i
Get the money.
