    This really helps understand the basics of weaving on a loom-thank you...I haven't done any weaving since I was a teenager. I am working on a art project and am trying out some prototypes methods. I am trying to weave together a bunch of red willow sticks, approximately 60 inches long, into a sheet that I can form into a cylinder. The red willow sticks are approximately an 1/8" diameter and then taper down at the tip of the branch. My first attempt was to hand weave (no loom) each stem together with some 16 ga. copper wire, spacing the wire warps about 10 inches apart. Pretty difficult to maintain a straight warp line bending each wire by hand. The other hurdle is that each stem (my weft) is tapered. My thought is to build a simple loom. Still have to experiment to find some wire that I can use as the warp and be able to lift the wire. Thanks again for a clear concise instructional video❤. Subscribed.

      Hello :) Great question- there are some simple small things you can create, such as a bookmark, coaster, or small tapestry for the wall (you can find these tutorials on our YT playlist). You can try the Line Trainer project when you sign up for the email list on the Fibers and Design website. It will walk you through step by step some basic weaving techniques. The Textured Patches eClass is also a great start if you are looking for some practice and project instructions. Hope this helps :)

    Can you get the benefit of the huddle bar moving each second warp up when it’s on a single weave? Because say you want to use larger yarns and textures. Or is the purpose of a huddle bar only for A double weave?

    • @fibersanddesignweaving
      @fibersanddesignweaving  4 года назад +2

      Great question! I would say that a heddle bar is mostly used for plain weave (under over). I usually double warp a tab loom/ lap loom because the spacing is too wide. I usually prefer to use a shed stick and a string heddle if I am working with a larger design and a variety of yarns. Hope this helps! :) Please let me know if you have any further questions!

      Hi Robin! Great question- I would say if you are trying to weaving a seamless pouch, use the cardboard method. You can slip it off the cardboard with some pressure, but won't have to sew anything. Hope this helps :)

    I am using a very tiny loom, and am a beginner. It came with a wooden comb, flat shuttles and a heddle bar. I haven't tried double warping it yet, may try that. I find that once the work gets past just over half way, things are too tight and I have to take out the bar and use a long needle for wefting. Is this usually the case? It may be because my loom is very small. The finished work is 18 X 12cm.

    Hi! Very useful video, thanks! I have a question, how long can you weave with the heddle bar in it? When you are closer to the top, do yo need to remove the bar and finish it without? Thanks!

    • @fibersanddesignweaving
      @fibersanddesignweaving  4 года назад

      Great question! As you have noticed, the closer you weave to the heddle bar, the hard it becomes to move the weft into place ( same as weaving without a HB, and just weaving to the top on the loom).The thing is with the heddle bar, it is hard to remove from the warp while weaving (esp using this type of loom) because you add it to the loom while dressing the loom. If you plan to use a heddle bar, then you should take into account the warp waste for the heddle bar. It is not impossible to remove the heddle bar, but it could loosen the warp or disrupt the woven weft ( "simply" roll the heddle bar downward and pull it out). Hope this helps! Thank you for watching!

    • @Janka007
      @Janka007 4 года назад

      Six pieces of wood, four nails, a wood saw, two sawwings across the horizontal, 22 across the vertical. Make it yourself and that way you can make it to whatever size is convenient for you, perfect for your lap, arms, and room you're working in!

    • @fibersanddesignweaving
      @fibersanddesignweaving  4 года назад +2

      Thank you for the question Samsu! Yes, using two strands gives more control when maintaining tension. If you can do it with one continuous strand, then that works :) I use the two strands because I like to dress the loom with one, tighten, retighten, and tie it. Then do that with the next strand.Thank you for watching! :)
