Lindsay, besides the fact that you’re one of my top fave YTers, with always honest reviews and just being you, I’m so thankful for you and other YTers who offer all of us a bit of shelter and comfort with video getaways to our “islands of creativity” and helpful and inspiring information in the truly scary times we’re living in now. My heart is breaking with much of our news lately. Take care…stay safe and stay sane everybody!

So... after you reviewed the Arttsy jelly gouache, I finally decided to replace my old Arteza tubes of gouache with a set of jelly gouache. I checked out both the MIYA and the Arttsy, and definitely preferred the color options in the MIYA. But, like you said, the Arttsy was a lot less expensive. When I put both items in my "save for later" cart, Amazon sent me a notice that the MIYA set price changed and was now comparable to the Artsy- wahoo! But you are right, the lid on the MIYA set refuses to stay latched on one side. This will definitely be staying on my art desk, just to ensure it doesn't get dropped and make a total mess. Thanks for these reviews!

Thanks for this comparison. I enjoy your longer videos, they keep me company. 🤗Your positive attitude and "colour geekiness" keeps me coming back to this type of videos. I also enjoy your spontaneity when commenting. In these violent and unsettling times, art is my refuge, and you and your videos a very welcome companion. I am new to gouache, coming from watercolour. As you said, the leap from one to another makes sense. I got some tubes by Schmincke, which I poured into an air tight palette..and made my own mini DIY jelly gouache palette. It is a good start.. The "want monster" is coming out of hibernation and is trying to persuade me to get some jelly gouache...but I could not imagine (or justify) 🤭getting more paint! I look forward to your Sat chats and frugal Friday videos too! Have a good weekend!

I noticed a sale on both today on Amazon UK so this vid is perfect timing. Will buy myself a birthday present now once I'm finished watching to decide which I want. These sets were initially made for Chinese school kids. Particularly for exams as they only have a set time so need more colours to reduce mixing time and they do each have their own palette. It's taken really seriously there

I have a firm belief that you provide joy in different supplies to encourage all of your viewers! I have a love/hate relationship with gouache and I am NOT looking to buy more. I enjoy watching your enthusiasm for the products that you use. I have seen you temporize but never hate on any product. I think these “jelly” products are simply taking advantage of the current popularity that gouache is currently enjoying. I wish anyone looking to start painting try watercolor painting before gouache, but that is a personal choice and opinion. Whatever works for you! Nice video Lindsay. I would like to see a painting demonstration rather than a swatch video, of course there are fans for both or all! Have a lovely day.

I hate it when people trash a product or buy something they know is bad to make a salty video. That's someones business they might be destroying. I mean if it claimed to be one thing but was another that's one thing. Warn people so they don't get scammed. I say how much products are so they know how to rate my review. A great paint for $20 won't be as good as a great paint for $100 because i expect more. I just try to be honest. Also you might be reviewing someone's favorite supply or the only thing they can afford. There is no need to be mean. There are good and bad points to all products:)

Thanks for this fun swatching video. For my jelly gouache I put a piece of plastic wrap on top of my paint and then the lid to keep the paint from going on the lid. But the thing that stinks is that you can't reuse the plastic wrap agian. This is the only idea that I could come up with to keep from making too much of a mess. Hopefully this is something that you could try. Have an awesome day

I just got the 50 set ordered for my birthday as I found a great sale! I’m really looking forward to them as the HimI gouache is my favourite, and I needed more white. Worth the price just for the white lol! I’d love it if the 100ml white refills were currently available in Canada for a good price but not yet. Still this set is amazing! I’ve already labeled my empty full pans with the colours that are new vs the 56 and 24 set I already have. I go to get more once the white gets low. People keep saying this is more than enough paint but not for me lol! I’ve been painting so much, premixing colours in empty pans and painting very large now that I have so much paint and CAN do so. I’ve had to open new ones for using colours up. But as I said it’s my favourite medium now. I’m actually rewatch ingot his video is anticipation of and to continue my excited hype for the gouache I ordered! Got all my little sticker labels ready to put in the tubs, starting to decide how I will rearrange them in the pallet. Once my first pallet is empty I think I’ll use it for big acrylic mixes for larger paintings.projects and see if I can clean and reuse it.
    Relaxing and enjoyable video, thanks.

Wow those sides not closing would be a deal breaker for me. I’m so glad I watched you talk about these jelly gouaches. I got the Annieoni set and I’ve had no problem closing it plus my top isn’t getting that mucked up. The only problem was peeling off the tops but I eventually figured out a way to peel it so it came off better. I’ve used it a couple times but I’m new to gouache so I have no idea about the actual paint yet but so far so good for me. And the price was great.

I bought that 18 set of Himi during 2020. Mine looks exactly like yours and I didn't dry it out on purpose. The black in particular is nearly a quarter the amount it was when fresh, and I barely used it. And I find it very difficult to rewet.
I bought the Artsy based on your recommendation and for me, they are far superior to the Himi. I can't wait to see your review of the new set.

I wonder whether you need to expel a little air from the box before it will close up. Maybe by a little pressure in the middle of the lid. I like the second palette best because it has all those lighter greens. How are these paints for layering over each other? Also for painting fine lines or edges. I do love the colours, they are so vivid. I do think the bigger palettes do have a lovely contemporary sort of colour choice and like the idea that you can just dip in and paint!

    Dear Lindsay,
Perhaps the lids are upside down? If they have been designed on a computer, the latches may line up only one way? May be worth cleaning a lid, or painting from what is on the lid, to see.
The reason why I say this, is when you got them and opened them, you would have noticed the unlatched case then?
Perhaps some clingwrap or translucent paper over them, between the paint and lid?
I have trouble thinking about how I would use these paint colours. Perhaps monochromatic landscapes using one colour, different values-shades and tints?
    In kindred spirit,

This is so random, BUT when you first brought the palette out, all the sides were latched. Could you put maybe a piece of parchment paper on the surface of the paints, then rotate the lid to see if it closes properly then? If that works, could you wash off the foam so it would not cross contaminate the paint…..love the info! Also, does gouache have pigment codes like watercolor paint? Why is there two different sizes in the biggest set? The Artsy one seems more like something I'd like, the foam lid is a great idea.

I think because they are the more popular colors. They are probably the ones they sell the most refills for.

Hi, has anyone here tried putting these "jelly" type gouache in the fridge to maintain moisture and keep it as fresh looking as possible? If so, how did it turn out say after a year or so? Did it grow mold, did it keep better than constantly spraying with water from time to time? TIA.

I haven't but i have not had mold at room temp either.

I've experienced lots of molding with Arteza Gouache. And I'm from western Germany. It's not very humid here. I have one air-tight palette with Rosa Gallery Gouache and that one has been lying around unatteneded for way over 6 months now, and there is no mold in it whatsoever. The Arteza Gouache? Also in an air-tight palette and it already started to mold after 2 weeks or so. I had to get rid of all the paints and clean the whole palette. I've heard from other people that their Arteza paints even molded in their original tubes. Which is a bummer, since I really liked their gouache. But I'm def not gonna buy it ever again.

@@thefrugalcrafter Its nice and really affordable. €20 for a pack of 24x20ml plastic containers with air-tight lids. It has a similar consistency to the Himi Gouache, but its more opaque.

Hi Lindsay- I'm sorry this is off topic, but I saw this , this morning & immediately thought of you. It's a " wristlet"(?) that slides on the arm, & it's got a magnet on one side . This girl demonstrated how she handles her paints, sketchbook, etc w/ the help of this. Here is the link to her video : ruclips.net/video/ofTVxCJtFjE/видео.html
& she has the info & link on her side comments. You may already be aware of it but bcbuilders, contracters use them...thought I'd take a chance & let you know.
She takes her paints out of the palette and slaps it on the magnet side. Have a great day! ☺
