Wow!! The piece ended up stunning, I can’t believe you achieved those colors with the himi gouache, they almost look fluorescent!! I can’t wait to see your future paintings!!
This was a really fun video! A long video would be really cool just so it’s all in one place. I love to have artist videos on while I’m working, so longer videos are my cup of tea.
yes to more gouache painting videos. i low key regret not getting the jelly cup set of himi gouache but instead i bought a smaller tube set of them. lol. but i'm quite impressed with how they perform so far and need to practice more too.
Yessss I love seeing you paint traditionally! I think if you're painting full pieces like this then they might as well be one per video, we like to see you using gouache so there's no need to cram it all in one, plus it might make it easier for you to edit and turn it into a bit of a series ☺
Regardless of the fact that I love all of your videos, the little finger thingy you do in the beginning puts a smile on my face, period. It's just so adorable. 💖
Excited for this challenge! Would love to see several videos about your gouache explorations and think you'll be able to make at least 73 pieces before you run out of most of the paints 😊
I would love to see as many as possible paintings in this challenge. I love the chatty format. Thank you for sharing your struggles, that made me feel less alone with my own blindness, I have -9 diopters and i am glued to the paper if I work on details 🤣
I just got my first set of himi gouache this month, so this video couldn’t have been posted at a more perfect time! I’m so excited to follow your journey! 💕
I would love seeing your progress along the way. I think it would be nice for you to make a longer video when you finish the challenge talking about all of your feelings about it and showcase all the paintings you managed to make 😊 I love your content and art. xoxo
As soon as you mentioned student grade paints, it makes me wonder if you'll test out professional vs student grade watercolors, gouache or oil paints one day! I remember you painting some simple landscapes in oils and actually really like the variety of painting subjects you've done, including studies of travel locations (i.e. your Paris retreat!!) and fruit. 🍓🌸✨ I also find it adorable that the Himi Gouache pink palette matches your fireplace!
This is a great challenge Sara and I'd love to see how you get on with the Himi paints! Short videos would be good, if you can do that. Love this first painting and it was helpful to see you push through the difficult stages. Thanks for sharing!
Oooh this is such a good idea! My himi paints keep drying up because I don’t use them enough - the chalky look is something I’ve also noticed, and I also only use them in my sketchbook because they aren’t lightfast. I don’t think selling/giving away non lightfast pieces is a good idea because you can’t guarantee that people will properly care for it, and I wouldn’t want a gift to fade quickly. I would love to see maybe two or three a video? I think a long compilation of all of them might be a lot, but you could always do a long compilation at the end that’s all the processes sped up 50x
It would be cool to see if you could avoid using the extra white, replacing white with some of the paler colors would make for some really interesting palettes. I always love seeing you paint traditionally :)
I'd prefer a mini-siries of videos on the Himi gouche rather than a 40 min video, it will definetly be more interesting to see progress from video to video than one big video (but that's just me). The final painting turned out beautifully! Can't wait to see your next piece with those paints!
Your painting came out great! I just bought himi set that came with a big extra pouch of white paint, mold spray, extra brushes, some canvas boards, and other extras off amazon for only $15 dollars more than the original price. So excited to try them.
Maybe you could do a check-in every one or two weeks of your progress? or maybe a halfway point check-in? like when you finish the first tub of white? but definitely seeing the process is enjoyable so don't hold back! ( while keeping in mind your comfort level for your eyes!)
So beautiful! This is an interesting challenge, I want to try gouache so maybe I’ll get the himi gouache set. But Im torn about selling artwork made form non lightfast material too. As long as the artist is transparent about the materials being used then it’s up to the consumer to make the decision if the piece is still worth the price the artist is offering it at.
I'm a beginner and would love to hear more about the storage of gouache paintings either in a sketchbook or framed. You mentioned something about UV protective glass frames but I didn't follow. Thank you!
I’ve was just thinking about your art, pretty cool you uploaded this same day. You’re one of my best artistic muses. Something that I love in your art and would love to try out is how ‘dewy’ everything looks in your paintings? Especially digitally, everything has a very whimsical sort of dewiness, it helps make everything look really soft. I’ve been trying to develop a softer look in my art, and your wispy lines with the dewy look (still not sure if that’s the right term) are exactly the inspiration I’ve needed. Speaking of lines, do you think you could make a video on lines? My instinct is always to make straight lines with sharp angles, and I’d love to see a video focusing on the importance of the lines you put down and ways to experiment with it.
I think it would be fun to see multiple videos throughout your process vs one long one. Not sure which is more stressful for you in regards to the editing process. 😅 Also, in regards to your question earlier in the video about selling artwork that isn't lightfast, I personally do not want to sell artwork that isn't lightfast. I have used materials that are not lightfast, but I only sell prints and not the originals if the finished piece is something I love. I recently completed a bird field journal study illustration. I used Copic markers for the colored illustrations before finishing the spread layout digitally to make prints.
This painting turned out beautiful! I’m so glad you mentioned that the paints are not lightfast (no brand of gouache is; even professional paints like Winsor & Newton are not archival). I’ve seen so many people use gouache without doing the research, and even selling the paintings. Also like that you mentioned markers. They fade even under UV glass. There’s this one artist who draws these huge, gorgeous Copic drawings and sells the originals for thousands, and I’m just 😬. Don’t wanna be “that person” who comments that on her Instagram tho lol. Anyway, looking forward to the other paintings you do in this series!
When my white ran out I replaced it with professional gouache just like I’ll do with all the other colors. Rn my palette is half himi and half Holbein and winsor and newton gouache
If the paint was a MUCH smaller amount, I'd say one big video. However I think doing a series would be a better idea, especially since it'd be able to show the progress some more and you can share more thoughts on the challenge as it progresses.
Hi lovely. I'd like to see separate vids of your Himi journey please. Also, MT make washi tape, is that washi or masking tape you're using Sara? Love today's painting. x Nell.
Hullo Sara, I have enjoyed your videos for quite a while, I know that you excel in portraiture. I have watched a channel by "Arleebean" she creates portraits in unusual colors. I believe you might try some of her color combinations and this will allow you to use more of the colors once your choices become more limited. I have seen the white jelly gouache cups for sale in sets of 3 or so. I believe your jar of paint might be a better solution for this challenge. I am not a fan of the jelly gouache faze and I have use several brands over the years. I find Turner Design Gouache the most reliable and consistent brand. It like all gouache is a flat paint, this can look quite "chalky" in the cheaper brands. It is a side effect of the addition of cheap white paint added to the color range to bulk up the paints for cost reasons. I want to see all of your paintings, perhaps in a video showing progress after a month? At the end of your challenge? I am following you on Instagram, but I do want more videos too! Best of luck going forward!
I have a set of pretty expensive gouache, but since it’s so expensive I get scared to use it often, maybe I should invest in cheaper gouache that I can feel more comfortable practicing with and use the nicer stuff for finished pieces.
From a ""content creator"" perspective, I think it might be smart to upload multiple shorter videos, but also have on concluding video summing all of the pieces up when you're finished (what you called a thesis) This way you get to use the big nice interesting "how many paintings did i finish with this palette" but also put out some videos to follow along with the process// for people who just enjoy seeing you paint in the first place I hope that made sense :')))
Why not both options? Upload the smalle videos, but then do one larger video squishing them all together with a voiceover for your thoughts on them/the challenge. :)
Saying “Let’s use up art supplies I already have” and then buying a new, larger set, is the most relatable artist thing ever. 😂
Wow!! The piece ended up stunning, I can’t believe you achieved those colors with the himi gouache, they almost look fluorescent!! I can’t wait to see your future paintings!!
I'd love to see all the paintings you make! And I'd love to see you experiment with shading with colors you don't normally use. Great work!
Yes ! Please ! More traditional painting!!!! I like your challenge!
This was a really fun video! A long video would be really cool just so it’s all in one place. I love to have artist videos on while I’m working, so longer videos are my cup of tea.

I love the stars and dots you've been sprinkling into your pieces, iconic

UR ART IS SO PRETTY OHMYGOD
Regardless of the fact that I love all of your videos, the little finger thingy you do in the beginning puts a smile on my face, period. It's just so adorable. 💖
Shorter videos of each painting would be great to see ! I think seeing the progress would be more fun than a single long video! Love your work ❤️
So happy to see you doing traditional art again, it’s my fav! Definitely prefer lots or short videos on each painting over one long one 🤍
I'm excited to see all of the videos.
so excited for this !!!!! regular speed-paint check points AND a final really big video would be ideal me thinks
Excited for this challenge! Would love to see several videos about your gouache explorations and think you'll be able to make at least 73 pieces before you run out of most of the paints 😊
id love to see all the individual pieces as individual videos AND a wrap up archival video of the challenge overall!
Great video Sara! I haven't tried this gouache set, so I'd love to see more videos about your thoughts on working with them ❤
Love seeing your painting and voice over videos this looks so lovely, super textured and detailed which I love ❤
Love this portrait!
I would love to see all of your paintings!

Omg I’m so excited I love it !!!! Great idea!!! I might do this myself bc I have that set and Carson paper XD
I just got my first set of himi gouache this month, so this video couldn’t have been posted at a more perfect time! I’m so excited to follow your journey! 💕
looks lovely! id love to see a bunch of himi gouache updates, especially the less refined practice focused ones :)
I would love seeing your progress along the way. I think it would be nice for you to make a longer video when you finish the challenge talking about all of your feelings about it and showcase all the paintings you managed to make 😊 I love your content and art. xoxo
More himi gouache paintings pleeeease
I would like to see a longer form video of all the pieces and see their progression ❤

I think keeping us updated would be nice for us to see your thoughts. Also, one big video at the end with your final thoughts would be great ❤
😆 I got the same tape set for the same reason it's so good!

6 months later, how's it going? Have you used them up yet?
I'd prefer mini videos on each piece and then maybe a shorter video at the end with a summary?
I'd be so happy if you posted an update💖

40 min long video!!,! ❤
hmmm i've always wondered how many paintings you could get out of the sets. prob depends on how thick people use the paint

Many say professional Holbein gouache is better
Wrong titled video and waste of time .
This is the earliest I've ever been for anything in my entire life💀😭❤️❤️❤️
SUCCESS!!!!
