    Cozart Guitars have been sold by two people located in Ripley, Mississippi, for years. Quality has gotten better and better. As a builder of boutique guitars for over ten years, (retired now, just repairs now), even with the cheap hardware I could not build this for twice or thrice the cost. Sooo, I bought a Cozart Tele 12 string, which is great save that the bridge pickup, (same as yours I think), gets way too bright and thin on a 12 string setup. Now, in 2020, a mere $149 with gig bag, strap, etc. That being said, the neck was hard maple, engineered rosewood fretboard, tight growth rings on the maple, no scarf joint, and holds it straightness easily. Just a great piece of wood for a neck. Unfortunately, the tuners, well, Jin-Ho tuners would be an improvement. It tunes, but don't play it a lot, you'll be retuning often. Some of the problem is with the bar style string tree they put on it, too acute and it chokes the string in the nut, which is not high quality to begin with. But overall, one heck of a deal for $149.
    I then took the jump and bought their KING doubleneck the same two gentlemen offer, which comes with a hardshell case. The one to buy comes in a Goldmist color. The same men sell a red one that looks like a Gibson, but it does not come with the whammy on the 6 string side. I HIGHLY recommend you review the KING Doubleneck, sold by the same people who sell the Cozarts. With the case, currently $375 delivered to your door, and the six string side comes with a great whammy. Just nothing out there like it. And the humbuckers are not that bad. (Mine did come with the 12/6 switch in backwards, I simply lifted the pickguard a bit and there was plenty enough wire to rotate it. No resoldering needed.)
    Love your channel!

    You have a very radio/TV friendly voice, authoritative, yet warm. And the way you set it up, organize the video is awesome. I appreciate it, because I am always looking for cheap GOOD guitars. Just a hobby. I am 50 and a long-time player and I tend to give them away eventually to kids at church or who I meet in the clinic that really want to play, but we're in a low income area andf they can't buy. When I was young we were dirt poor, but I had that desire, just couldn't afford anything good.

      Strats aren't bad if you know when and how to use them. They do have a tone sucking bridge and a sustain sucking middle pickup, but the rosewood fretboard and the in-between pickup positions can give you a couple interesting new dynamics when set up properly. They're not as versatile because of their handicaps, but they have their place.

    I just bought one of these off Amazon. It was $104.
    I too was impressed....but for the two screws missing to hold down the guard!!. LOL.
    But it plays well; NO fret buzz, stays in tune (tuners are poor though) and more comfy when seated than my Epi L.P.s... and MOST IMPORTANTLY SOUNDS GREAT.
    The neck is a modified "V" as expected. The fretboard was narrower than my Epi Les Paul.
    Mine was made my HUNTINGTON and has a maple neck.
    I really like it.

  • @bradbolin2139

    I prefer Teles. The tones they produce are very usable. Strats have a sound that is instantly identifiable, sometimes this is not a good thing. Teles have a very open tone that works well for almost any style. The clean bright sound, snappy attack, and full-bodied thickness they are capable of, I personally find preferable to Strats. I like the simplicity, this include the control layout. The electronics are easily to access and repairs can be made on the fly. I also like the more compact body design that provides a solid feel. I also do not like a vibrato, so the fixed bridge is my preference. Many people hate Teles, but every well known guitarist has been known to use one at some point. Many people make the comment that Teles are too bright, but that is just because of the context in which they are usually played. The neck pickup actually is chunkier sounding than a Strat neck pickup, it has a very smooth sound and is very usable for jazz.

    One thing to note, is "sometimes" you may get some physical defects. The main thing that is usually the problem is the nut is too high on these telecaster copies. However, if you replace it with a bone nut usually 42mm that has pre-made slots, you can complete the setup with no problems. The two tele copies that I got can hold there own against other American made ones that are 10x the price..... really!

    My first decent guitar was a Fender Telecaster. I "lost" that guitar when I was, like, 22 or 23 and that's one of the few regrets I have in life about literally *anything,* three decades later. I'm almost in a position to collect/build guitars for my "arsenal." MOST of them will be Tele-style axes. I've also had a Strat, which was not a "bad" instrument by any means but just didn't "click" with me, the way that Telecaster did. If I EVER go in a music shop and see one of these Cozarts I will *definitely* buy it...!

I looked at the sight the other day and there is a 2 f-hole semi hollow tele that looks great. Mine is a light, well balanced Basswood, with a flat 16" radius neck.. I use it to try out pickups when I wind them. I put a 4 way, and upgraded the electronics. I also replaced the bridge plate and saddles with Wilkinson. I do not experience any hum with mine. I wish I could make it sound as good you do.

    I prefer the Strat. I started playing Strat style guitars such as Krammer and Charvel due to the influence of Eddie Van Halen in the 80's . I later got a Telecaster primarily because I learned that Jimmy Page played one in the Yardbirds. Its an interesting guitar due to the fact that the bridge is mounted directly to the body, covers a large surface area, and offers a lot of contact and transference. It rings like a bell.

  • @chrisvuk3053
    @chrisvuk3053 6 лет назад +5

    Nice wood grain on the body. I like the natural finish because you can see that it is not junk wood.
    I prefer a Strat style because two things: The arm cut and the way it hangs when standing. My last tele felt like it wanted to hang more parallel and I was always pulling the neck towards my shoulder to play at a more comfortable angle.

      You should check out the squire classic vibe telecaster. There are several videos of double blind tests where the classic vibe beats out the $2000 fender tele in tone and quality. I picked mine up for a cool 300 and would never consider getting rid of it.

    I forgot earlier to mention that I have had several Cozart guitars and even built the 12 string Tele kit guitar. Great bargain guitars! The electronics are cheap but pots & caps are cheap and easy to replace. Don't let the name on the headstock and price scare you away. These are a good brand of guitars !

      Joe, what was building the kit like? Did everything fit, etc.? Or did you have to jump through some hoops. I've been thinking of doing a "How To" series of videos for things like that.

      Joe Allen I think a good shielding job and setup does miracles to a guitar like this. Obviously strings play a huge role and so do pickups. But even pickups are rather affordable nowadays. Think of Wilkinson, warman Roswell

    If I ever actually get some lessons and playing time in I’d probably lean towards the strat platform but there’s something about the tele that has a simple magnetic draw for me, simply yet like an artist’s palette in the right hands !!!

    This would be a fun guitar for an upgrade video series comparing how it plays out of the box, after a good set up, after changing the pots and shielding the cavities, after changing the bridge&nut and finally after changing the pickups.
    Would be a great example video of which mods make a difference worth the money and you'd have a pretty kickass tele after for under 250$.

    Just love the Tele and absolutely hate the Strat... WTF were wrong with them when they decide to put the volume knob so close to the strings on the strat? Sooooooo uncomfortable and annoying. It's only me who thinks that?

    • @GuitarMAXMusic
      @GuitarMAXMusic  6 лет назад +5

      I think it depends a lot on the player's picking style. Shredders like it because they're generally concern with "economy of motion" and making small, fast movements with the hand, so they want the controls to be close by, but players who are going for bigger, more aggressive movements with their hands, don't like the controls close because they get in the way. That's what I've noticed at least.

      @hralarx9455 6 лет назад +1

      Guitar MAX Ye, I think Strat style guitars are better for lead playing but not so good for rithm and absolutely not good for palm muting. In my opinion Teles are a lot more versatile if the player doesn't need a trem or floydrose system.

    Tele all of the way, but you have to have the Strat for those evenings that you need to step out and be a tone master. Tele's are versatile and rocket fast, but the Strat gives me total tone control and I can stand up to Les Paul players on the stage.
    I think that with over drive, the Tele is a better machine than my Strat, but with tube distortion and using pick pressure for gain, the Strat wins every time...SOLUTION: Have a Strat AND a Tele on stage and bounce around with them song to song.

    I just bought a Cozart Tele Thinline and it was actually a really impressive little guitar, I was disappointed that the top which was quoted to be cocobolo, was just a plywood meterial stained red, but I bought to modify. I'm in the process right now of stripping the finish and I will be dyeing the wood and putting an oil finish on it, but overall I recieved a great piece. the neck was in great shape, all the fretwork was amazing, and all the electronics sounded just fine. The pickups were pretty low output, so I had to really crank the volume to get any decent tone out of it, but for what I payed I can't complain too much. I will be putting a cheap set of hot rail pickups in it, along with full sized pots, and a blade style three way switch.

I've played stratocasters and telecasters before was back in the early 80's to now, and I've come back to tele's. And I do like this copy more than the actual ones, price and also it's something I can modify also going forward.

    I made a telecaster from an eBay kit , I just colored it with yellow highlighter and finished with glossy polyurethane. I have no previous experience, I'm not a luthier but it did come with the vintage style bridge and pickups, it has a white pickguard so it looks good with the neon yellow. I am impressed by it , sounds good and the only thing I needed to do was plane and sand the bottom of the neck because it was too high and was causing fret buzz and cut the pickguard with a file because it doesn't fit originally, and solder . It's a great experience for a guitarist , I recommend it because it sounds great out of my Marshall and it teaches you guitar repair and maintenance without the fear of messing up your axe.

    Thank you for the demo. I had a USA Tele and I have full respect for it. I found that after the new was off I wasn't playing it. When gigging with it, it seemed weak from a volume stand point. I liked the fact it is original if not primal and it's still around and popular. At least I have the bragging rights saying "yeah, I had a Tele". I have a Strat copy cat that is much more comfortable and much greater tone variations, especially out of phase tones that I missed on the Tele.
