Harbor Freight issued a recall to recall the original jack stands that were used to replace the first recalled jack stands. What do you guys think about what they have done to solve the issue is it enough?
Your last comment about lightly engaging the jack lift along with the jack stands to me is key. A secondary safety measure is so prudent no matter whose jack stands you use. I likewise do this, have for years. Thanks for your heads up video. 👍
They need to pull their entire jack stand inventory and not release any new or replacement jack stand until they go through a complete re-engineer design. To regain the customers trust and loyalty they may need to take a substantial financial hit by producing an actual "tool truck" quality jack stand with documented tests, pretty much releasing an "over engineered" product at a deep discount to the consumer. I think this is what needs to happen.
This is why I always backup the stands with the jack. After lowering the vehicle onto the stands, I always leave the jack up and touching (but not holding weight of) the vehicle. If the stand fails, the jack will hold it, at least long enough for me to get out from under it. I learned this lesson as a teen when I saw my brother-in-law lose 3 fingers doing a brake job because a jack stand broke.
Hey boys. This return deal is STORE CREDIT ONLY so ignore the email saying cash or store credit. The manager said any jackstand is returnable but ONLY store credit. They were instructed not to give cash. I just turned mine in an hour ago.
Its a tough one I don’t like that they don’t offer an exchange like they did with Icon 3/8 flex head ratchet. However even the new jack stands have been deemed unsafe. I also find it amazing there is no Daytona jack stands yet. Wonder if there’s some skulduggery going on to roll them out. On another note I also have Ironton from Northern tool which have a safety pin. Northern Tool is a store much like Harbor Freight but also carries name brands as well.
IT sounds like their trying to make this right. Letting you return any of the jackstand if you dont feel safe using them is a pretty big step that not very many companies would do that.
Thank you for the update and follow up as I did not hear there was a second recall. I feel HF is doing there best but they need to change manufacturers or materials. Cheers.
Never have a problem with Walmart jack stand and you can get them for the same price as the harbor freight ones and they wouldn’t kill you. I mean I left a car on those stand for almost six month never once fail.
Hey Brian thanks for covering this. Just got that same email yesterday after work. I had the 6 ton and turned them in about a month ago for the new red stands. Right out of the box the welds were trash. No penetration at all man. I turned them right back in for another box. Didn’t open that box until about a week later and same flippin shit man. Terrible welds everywhere the things were welded lol. Put them right back in the box Cussin the whole time. Been planning on taking back again BUT NOW with this new recall I’m taking back my 3 ton as well both for a refund.. My SKU is not affected but F that man I’m turning them all in I got 3 kids and mortgage can’t risk my head smashed under the pickup lol. Good on Eric issuing a full refund for any stand. That’s a honest move on his part I respect that. I’ll never buy a HF stand again now. Sorry boys. Side note anyone tried the “prolift” 6 ton stand on amazon? With the locking pin? I’ll probably take my refund and Buy them. Anybody have them?
Without a complete redesign they should not be purchased even if they have gone to a better rack. Problem is that nearly all defective design bases for other jacks under any name i.e. Hein-Werner, etc. are the same. I worked as a high level Manager at a US distribution and engineering location for a Chinese manufacturer of electrical components for less than a year. I soon learned the quality of product was unreliable and typically made from inferior materials. The lack of Quality Controll and accountability was clearly evident. Customers who did incoming QC were regularly refusing shipments for good reasons. Those who didn't had problems after the sale. I came from a US manufacturer who made truly quality products with excellent in process QC. Quality results of all items were posted daily for direct feedback to employees. I learned a lot about Chinese ownership and manufacturing. Their focus is on profit without regard or respect for employees . Regardless of their marketing, quality is not understood nor a priority because they are so successful selling at a low price point. I left in dismay. We are digging out own grave.
Hmm. Thank you so much for the info. Thinking about returning mine. Are the husky jack stands any good? I like the fact that they have a slit on the top of them. So that you can put them on the side of the vehicle.
I went in to return them but I was denied since it wasnt part with the recall. To me the number doesnt matter. What does matter is the manufacturer. Which is pittsburgh. That being said I believe they should accept all the jack stand regardless of it being part of the recall or not.
The Sku number is the manufacturer identification along with item. You can notice it easier on their generators. Same brand, size, output but different sku. Upon closer inspection one will have better welds and even completely different parts. Ever notice online you’ll see Pittsburgh socket on clearance but not in store? The clearance Pittsburgh is the old China stuff not the new Taiwan stuff labeled Pro as just about all Pittsburgh hand tools are now

Wonder when we are getting the replacement for the ICON 3/8 ratchet that was recalled
Who knows?! There’s a reason why they offered a free ratchet in any size you wanted. They knew it was going to take awhile to design a replacement.
Lol right.
Good update Brian @Redemption Garage

Never hurts to throw that tire under the frame too. Old school move but it will save your ass

I agree as well

I know its crazy good thing all my jack stands are ford and sears craftsman stands

They’re recalling a recall kinda like the Chevrolet dealership I work at 😅😂🤣
This why I use 4 jack stands when under a car 2 of different brand than the other 2.

I feel like if harbor freight can’t even get jack stands right then we shouldn’t buy them period.
It's to the point where you JUST DONT BUY JACK STANDS FROM HARBOR FREIGHT!!!
Never have a problem with Walmart jack stand and you can get them for the same price as the harbor freight ones and they wouldn’t kill you. I mean I left a car on those stand for almost six month never once fail.
That’s really what it’s come to for me too man. I’m turning all my shit in next time I go. Not worth it.
I've also got that habit of leaving a Jack placed bearly enough with the Jack stands. Also sometimes placing under the car aswell.

Also you should inspect any jackstand before you use it.
Isn't eriks dad the real founder of the store?
Unbelievable! Twice a recall on jack stand. We might have to reconsider the country of origin when we buy tools and safety equipment

When are they going to address the latch mechanism defect that when its bumped it drops the stand when under light and medium loads?
Is
SKU: 69597 (3 ton)
Recalled.

Smh second time in 3 months? This time I'll get my cash and buy some jackstands elsewhere, thanks for the info
On jacks and Jack stands safy I spare no expense even with top brands I still spooked to crawl under a car lost too many friends like that
Why is there a we will give you cash refund or store credit? Who decides this? It should be, we will give you a cash refund.
I guess you decide when you go in but I am not 100 percent sure on that buddy.
Yea I hope they don’t pull “oh they are x amount years old you have to get store credit”.. F that I want my money so I can buy them somewhere else.
Moral of the story is, don't buy cheap jack stands
I smashed like # 100 xD!!
Garbage freight
