    When my old boss moved from Canada to the US, he brought his robertson screws and screwdriver with him. He said they provided some security as most Americans don't own a robertson screwdriver. I also heard an American colleague refer to them as RV screws. Anyway, I do a lot of woodworking and I prefer them to slotted and phillips head screws (not just because I'm Canadian).

    Henry Phillips was not the first to come out with the phillips screws, the Japanese did.The Japanese use a different type of phillips screw called a JIS phillips which has a dot on the head of the screw used on Japanese motorcycles,ATVs including on Mikuni carburetors

    "The Greatest Screw That Never Was"
    #1 most commonly used screw in Canada for over a century. Every house, deck, garage, etc... in Canada is built with Robertson screws.
    It's not that the Phillips screw is bad. It's that the Robertson came first and it's still slightly better because there's no cam-out.
    Try placing a Phillips head screw on the end of a Phillips head bit and hold it out away from you. What happens? The screw falls to the ground.
    Do the same thing with a Robertson head screw and it stays on the bit. You can work one-handed.
    The Robertson screw head is objectively (not subjectively) the best in the world (among the common bit types).

    If you are in Canada, we only use the robertson. At least anything you will buy in bulk for construction. You can get everything else, but they are in the small packages of 4 or so per. If you want bulk phillips you need to specially order it in.

    Kreg screws are #2 Robertson.
    If your home was built after the 1990s, then that combination screw that is on every one of your outlets and receptacles is a combination of slotted quarter-inch, #2 Phillips and #1 Robertson. If you go into your electrical panel you will notice that your lid is a combination of slotted and #2 Robertson as well as most of your breakers.
    I work as an electrician in the US, The five screwdrivers that I have on me unless I’m putting together a ceiling fan is a 2.5mm slotted, 3.5mm slotted, 6.5mm slotted (1/4”), Robertson #1 & Robertson #2. Slotted screwdrivers for service work, putting on face plates and Robertson screwdrivers for new work.

      Manufacturer of receptacles and switches may very, example;
      Legrand: slotted 6.5mm (1/4”) #2 Phillips, & #1 Robertson
      Leviton: slotted 6.5mm (1/4”) #2 Pozi , & #1 Robertson
      You have to pay close attention to see if there is four marks on the head of your screws to know if Phillips or Pozi...

    Robertson screws or more commonly Maxi-Loc Head screws are very commonly used in enclosed trailer construction and car-hauler construction. I have two trailers that have thousands of them on them.

    I am Canadian so everything that comes with Phillips screws, the screws go in the trash and are replaced by Robertson. Torx is good, but way more expensive than Robertson.

    My mom lives in a double wide built in the 1980s. Recently I've been doin work on it, and have encountered these screws everywhere on it. Luckily my but set has some square heads which fit. But I had been wondering what was up with them. Maybe it was built in Canada...

    What about a cam head screw? Kind of looks like a figure 8 shape. I used to have a 1954 chevy truck and this type fastener held the bed sides and fenders on. Had to go to Ace hardware to buy the driver.
