Samy Deluxe is an incredible rapper - he has sooo many bangers, both in terms of lyrics aswell as meaning and just pure flow (his skills on the mic are unmatched in Germany).

I very rarely listen to rap. This is one of the songs that I really liked back then - and still do today. Great lyrics, clever rhymes and a massage that makes it worth listening to. The beats are great too.

You might also want to check some other good german rappers from the "old days" : Curse, AZAD ( his "Mein Licht" could have been role model for Eminem's "Mockingbird"), the one and only Moses Pelham - for me the all time best poet in German Rap/Hip Hop.

Oh D, this song is so much better in german than the translation of it to english - you know that problem from Rammstein already. German language might sound hard, but it is beautiful and one can't express themselves as good in english as in german.
I myself only listened to Rap for almost my whole life, I am now 36. Then Rap became strange and I didn't like it anymore, US also as german. I started to listen to electronic music. A few months ago you reacted the first time to Def.Qon 1 - I could not believe how open minded you are when it comes to music. Two years ago I discovered Electric Callboy and Rammstein, that's the reason I found your channel and watched every reaction to them. And now the circle closes with you listening to Samy Deluxe, my childhood hero - I didn't even finish this reaction but i know, I will watch ich again right away.
You are an ambassador for the USA - and you do a great job by appreciating music and countries outside of the US. I really appreciate that and I hope, you will react to european, especially german content forever.

Der Song war aber für die darmale Zeit und dort wurde es schon durchgemacht, deswegen sang er drüber. Und hier sieht man auch gut das es eigentlich nie so rosig war wie einige immer meinen. Auch nicht in den 90ern. Nur scheiß social media gab es nicht. Jedes Jahrzent hat genau solche Songs.

Sammy Delux is one of the fundamental German hip-hop greats who lead the scene with outstanding lyrics and live vocals, or at least led it for decades (cf. Kool Savas, Sido). The song “Weck mich auf” was released in 2001 and stayed in the charts for a few weeks (at the time, rap was not yet as popular in Germany as it is in 2020).

Samy said in an interview that he wrote this lyrics in a time were he really disliked his situation and almost everything in germany but he has overcome that time period and now he looks much more positive on germany and it's people. You will notice that in his more recent songs.
