    Interesting how he hints Roma 14 years earlier.

    We also have Alan Horn to thank for merely asking Cuaron to direct this film due to how impressed he was with Y Tu Mama Tambien. One of the greatest decisions a Hollywood exec has ever made!

      "y tú mamá también" was an excuse of Diego Luna (Cassian Andor in Rogue One) and Gael Garcia (Mozart on the jungle) to be gays and does all of this dirty things in front of a camera.

    The way he describes Daniel and Emma is so sweet! They are very lucky to have worked at such a young age with a filmmaker who understands them deeply and sees them with this amount of sensitivity.

      You can add ‘profound and prophetic ‘ to describe his views on politics. The spinning of information and choosing the best from the worst are so prevalent now that we hardly bat an eye lid

    very good advice that guillermo del toro gave alfonso.. serve the material when you’re directing something that has source material, especially as an up and coming director.. then you unlock the door creatively but also corporately to make your film, your passion project.

    • @gabbyb7347
      @gabbyb7347 4 года назад +3

      @@joewhitehead3 yes, sure, he's got to be politically correct and praise the previous director (Cuaron had only directed indie films and some of them were foreign ones, ergo he was a nobody at the time to Hollywood's standards). But who's the one with multiple Oscars? and who directed Percy Jackson? nuff said.

    • @joewhitehead3
      @joewhitehead3 4 года назад +10

      Edwin B It’s not about being politically correct, it’s about encouraging & lifting other directors up, no matter how successful or not so successful their films are or how many awards they receive or don’t receive

    • @gabbyb7347
      @gabbyb7347 4 года назад +2

      @@joewhitehead3 If you see my original comment, I never suggested Columbus was bad at all. I said Cuarón was much better, that's it. I'm sure most movie critics would agree

    • @Tobytyty101
      @Tobytyty101 4 года назад +5

      Cuaron literally spent a couple minutes talking about how fantastic Columbus is. To this day he still talks about how Columbus doesn't get enough credit. He's not being "politically correct". Columbus is a great children's director. Even though Percy Jackson might not have been the most accurate film ever, kids who haven't read the books can still find a lot of enjoyment in the movie. It's not fair to say someone is more talented than the other when they literally specialize in drastically different films. The only connection is Harry Potter, and even both of them brought something the other person was unable to bring to the table.
      Plus, Columbus has worked on a lot more films, so of course he's going to have a not-so-good one here and there. I love Cuaron and he's one of my favorite directors, but presenting an argument that is pretty unwarranted is strange. Columbus is fantastic as well.
