Now how great is this to see , i can imagine the bets on cars that would've been made back in the day , and there would've been the guys who had the fastest and good runners also i would imagine that this would have been such a highlight to go out and see and appreciated unlike most things of today which are taken for granted as the variety available nowa days can be mind boggling great to see a piece of history brought back to life , thanks Dom for another Out of the park Video , Cheers Mate .
Somewhere at home I have an Eagle annual, (from the comic) that has plans for making one of these cars. I always thought I'd make it one day. Time passes!
These are awesome! Living history! Kind of like a slot car track, but inverted. I do not think these are Cox engines though, look larger. Another form of vintage car racing I have seen in video are board track racing cars, like these but free to run in-between the side boards on banked wood tracks.
Nice truly vintage stuff there. Interesting that he was using an electric starter - diesel afficionados will always tell you that's a no-no - breaks cranks etc yadayada. Oh and it would have been easier for him if he'd started the inside car first :-)
Mr Dom its these little oh the word? Not thought about, or Rarely seen Vintage classes from yesteryear grab me .Delve into for the new idea, looking for some amazing facts. Essential is in a way the RC Dictionary one day Seeing it in Hard Back print with shiny glossy pictures in on book would be on my coffee table and in my travel bag!
That is really neat! Was the three lane track something that was made and sold for these cars back in their day or did you make it yourself? As for me I am into 32nd scale electric slot cars.
A that time most stuff was either scratch built or someone made up a casting in limited numbers. The tracks all probably had a standard with rail size and lane spacing but were custom built much like routed slot car tracks.
You would probably have to build it or find something to restore to working order. Check out Redfin Engines if you want an engine for doing tether cars, I think a .15ci diesel would be a bit overkill on a rail track like this one.
@@thercchannel7301 Yeah right lol, eBay is full of stuff way overpriced unfortunately. Your best bet would be to find a decent old tether car to restore or get a repro and modifying it to take an engine you have.
I don't see any Cox engines here. These look like diesels. Of all the facets of the hobby I have seen, I never did know about engine powered rail cars.
Dom this is a super video but you've made a real boo-boo in the title. This is all old English stuff and all the engines shown are forties/fifties vintage English diesels. The whole shooting match doesn't have anything to do with Cox engines! Super video! Thanks! But Mills, ED and Frog engines being presented as American glows, No! No! No!
@@EssentialRC Thanks Dom. You're the best. I'm a lover/collector/user of all this old stuff and it's important for me (and probably for no-one else!). I'm amazed that no-one else seems to have noticed. Thanks again!
Interesting, but the real rail cars were4 times as big, using a 1 piston airplane engine and a 16th mile track. Would run well over 100mph. 4 cars at a time.
Those are not Cox engines! Looks & sounds like mostly British diesels! You don’t know know what your talking about, a Cox powered car would blow the rest of them away!

Thank you from. Michael 👍💖
This is such a History lesson...your viewers thank you for this👍👍
This really is cool and rc would not be what it is without this type of car. My grandfather raced these. Thanks for sharing.
Quite possibly the coolest thing I have seen!
Growing up in the 60's my Uncle had a commercial slot car track, spent lots of time there.
Wow this is really really cool!!!
I have never seen something like this! Amazing!!!
Tom Tomate It ran but after 1 meter It stopped

Never heard of this, but was big into slot cars at one time.
Man that's cool.. I think I have a bunch of them old engines.. I bought them as a lot..
Somewhere at home I have an Eagle annual, (from the comic) that has plans for making one of these cars. I always thought I'd make it one day. Time passes!
Build one!
Never knew they even existed, thx for posting the video.
Similar to 60s cox cars which ran on slotted track. .049 nitro engines.
Brilliant Dom , i have never seen these before , but very very cool ..........................
I hadn't either Scott. If they weren't so difficult to get running I could have hours of fun playing with them. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)
Very Nice!
Awesome 👍 I have never seen this before.
lol... i want to see all those cars run....👍👍

Amazing models, charming stuff! I'm trying to recall where I've seen similar before......but never so many and/or in use on a track.

I never knew these existed. Im guessing even with the lack of control racers took it seriously enough to get an edge and win.

Thanks for subscribing and showing your appreciation Simon ! Cheers Dom (Essential RC)
Is that white car's name "Tortoise"? Seems like a life lesson in there somewhere. 🐰

Awesome historical stuff
Super video 👍👍💖
Train ?
And just like an rc nitro engine...very temperamental!
Those are diesels, very oldschool and oddly still popular in the UK and EU.
There is nothing to do: the yellow one refuses to "shine"! Nice video Dom. Tnx
Love those things!! Can i still get one?

Thank you very much for your answer! I will look on ebay and similar sites to find one. Still got some engines lying in the basement.
@@thercchannel7301 At one time Cox made a whole set with a 33 foot oval slotted track and slot cars that used the famous .049 glow engine.
@@themadscientest yeah, ill keep my eyes at that. Maybe one time ill find a good offer...

Sweet..
So basically acoustic slot car racing?
Where can you buy it?

Super cool, why not put some cardboard down for them to sit on, other than the grass?
Old Warden?

Not a single Cox engine as long as I can see! ( check fortext)
0:56 barely even sounds like it's running.
Awesome..!
Is those cars are equipped with steering mechanism..? Please..
No. They follow a railed track.
@@EssentialRC million thanks..
I can sort of see why they went out of favour. Very cool though.
And after radio control...soon.
Possibly. What you thinking Jos? Mind control ?! LOL Cheers Dom (Essential RC)
Why not counter clock wise?
He should of got the inside car going first
ミニ四駆みたい
Those aren't Cox engines or cars. Not to mention those are diesel powered engines and Cox never produced a diesel engine.
It sounds like mini ducks quacking.

shat could be more boring that this? watching it in slow motion!
IT sounds like a fart
