I visited Mont Saint-Michel in 2000 and it still pops in my mind frequently as one of the most fascinating places I've ever visited. Something about it really stuck with me. Loved seeing you guys explore it!
My Wife and I will be spending her 50th birthday here (2 nights on the Island) Thanks for walking around it, that is something I was hoping we could do. Have a Fun Life you Two. :)
I have an idea for you if you haven't done it already (which you may well have because you are quite brilliant) You could edit together all your awesome drone footage of the most beautiful views and sites and just put it to music with subtitles. Your editing & film-making skills are great so no doubt you would make it look amazing.
If any of you are keen on leaving modern society (It's obviously not to everyone's liking), then help me build a city at some sort of island or coastline. It will be based on something right out of the early 18th century, and there will only be "pre-industrial age" technology used. The town is to be built, inspired by Nassau or some other colony in the 18th century Bahamas. Sadly, islands and acreage cost a lot of money, but if we are many, and we all sell our properties, it should be easy to afford the island/land and resources needed. I really don't think it should be a problem to sell your property and unnecessary belongings, if you are planning to leave modern society anyways. A couple of islands I have in mind are, Matana South seas plantation, Igoigoli Island and Whitsunday Island. There are also some coastal areas that can be used. Maybe something along the coast of New Guinea. In New Guinea one can find coastal stretches that are up to 50 km long without any named location showing up on google earth (they show the name of practically everything on google earth) Too be honest coastal areas are likely more viable solutions than small islands. Acreage bought off the mainland is also way cheaper than an island of the same size. Remember that if one person gets a couple followers those followers might also get some, and then we have a chain reaction. This is possible guys. If you are interested, then like my comment so other people can see that you are interested. Contact me on email: emiladefoged@gmail.com
It's iconic. There is even a counterpart in England, called Mount St. Michael (...) near Penzance, Cornwall. Hopefully you will end up there too sometime.
Sicco Dierdorp: yes, St Michael’s Mount was a cell of Mont St Michel, endowed by Robert, Count of Mortain, when he became Earl of Cornwall, after Brian of Brittany went to Italy for more adventures. Both Robert and his brother Odo, Bishop of Bayeux had deep family links with Brittany.
This is where my RUclips journey started 3 years ago. The very first video I watched of these two kids and from there I got inspired to create my own channel. I've watched every video and I even bought a book Eric authored on how to reach 1000 subscribers. Probably the coolest and most real couple on RUclips. BTW Eric should go back to throwing his napkin down on the plate when he's done eating, that always got me🤣🍽
I came to the blog (vlog?) at the "food in the Lake District" episode and was hooked. So I started at the beginning and am working my way through. This is *the best* episode yet. The drone footage is stunning. You take us to places we are unlikely to visit ourselves (though I have been to Le Havre and the Normandy beaches) and, amazingly, make us feel part of the adventure as if we were there with you. I'm totally impressed with your stamina and the distances you travel on foot whether up and down hills or on the level. I doubt I could have done it when I was your age. I wince when I see the packs you carry, especially little Allison whose ready smile warms the heart. Thank you.
Hi Stuart! Thank you so much for the note! We absolutely love sharing and showing off the world, so it's always nice to know that people are enjoying it :) And ya, the packs definitely suck to carry around. We're constantly trying to lighten them, but they're still pretty heavy haha. Thanks for making our day 🙌
What a beautiful place! Normandy is slowly but surely sneaking up on my travel list... That little driving lesson (will NOT call it "crash course") made me so happy I spent the first 10 years or so of having a driver's license driving stick. Learning to drive automatic is fairly easy when you're used to stick shift, can't even imagine the other way round!
Fantastic drone shots! I went to Mont Saint-Michel as a kid. I remember we walked up to the church but my parents were panicking because the tide was coming in so we turned back to rescue the car!
It's definitely on my bucketlist, one day when I end up visiting France. 😊 ❤ It looks so gorgeous, I've seen an video from a mass in that church and ever since I was little I said I'll go see it one day. 💗
I really enjoy your earlier vlogs more than recent ones, because you seemed to explore and show the places more. These were really adventures. And so interesting. Not as much food vlogs as lately seems to be the case. I still like your channel, of course, but kinda miss the previous “format” and content, and the way you used to explore the world. This place really does look magical. One of places I would like to see in person for sure!
The best part of driving to M.St.Michel is seeing it from very very far away as just this itty biddy blip on the horizon. And then for hours it just keeps getting bigger and bigger and bigger. Amazing place.
My partner and I have recently subbed to your channel and have been binge watching your videos all weekend long. It was a long weekend in South Africa, so today was PJ's and Endless Adventure. Love your videos and how you guys take us to these beautiful places with you, and you do it in ten minute videos, amazing. We feel like we're actually there. Stay safe and look after yourselves, hopefully this Corona thing will blow over soon and you guys can bring us more joy. Also watched your latest video btw ✌️🤗
This is the vlog where I first learned about you guys. I watched it almost 3 months ago and thought what a cool show and then I saw a Bali vlog and decided to check out your Channel. I have now started from the very beginning of your adventure and I'm up to Normandy. This channel is so amazing.
i stumbled upon your channel a few hours ago, and couldn't stop watching. as an aspiring traveller, it's cool to get advice from more experienced people. un abrazo desde Argentina.
Paul just avoid going in high summer, I've been twice and the last time we could barely get through the gates there were so many people! Also, they have now changed the approach to the island so that you have to get a free bus service, in our previous visit we drove right up to the gates nearly. Still, one of he most beautiful places I've ever been , so hope you enjoy it
Have you been able to see it yet? Mont Saint Michel is always one of our stops for its history. We visit every year and made a video just now on what it means to the French people. It's on our channel if you're interested. :)
This looks absolutely awesome guys! I live in The Netherlands, so pretty close to france I'd say and I've never be their before. I've definitely heard about it tho and right now I really want to go there especially on such a beautiful day like the day you guys went! Btw I started following you guys before you even had 1000 subs and a haven't watched your videos for quite some time now (sorry guys hihi) and I see the you almost have 10000 subs :O How awesome!! You totally deserve it (even more in my opinion) :D Keep up with the amazing work guys! ♥
I gotta say that drone shot where the helicopter was the same height as you was pretty brave haha that thing could have been mowed out the sky if he went your way! Great video as always 👌
+Matthew Pike agreed. 😬 I stayed very far from him though and he had been flying the same path for over an hour. I just had to make the call to fly. Was too good of a spot!
When you had mentioned Normandy I was about to mention Mont San Michel but I checked on goole maps and it looked like 2hour drive. This was no five on my bucket list since when I was a kid and fantasized to travel around reading the National Geographic. Cheers for the post as always.
I saw a picture of this place for the first time about 4 months ago and I thought it was fake. After looking it up and finding out it was real, it _very_ quickly was added to my "must visit" list. Loved the drone shots.
Amazing place, no wonder it is a UNESCO world heritage site. Moules frites (mussels & fries) are a very popular dish on the French coast. Mussel & oyster farming is big business in my region Poitou Charentes.
Genius idea going to Mont St Michel. You can also go to all 5 Normandy beaches, Honfleur is nice and also Bayeux for the tapestry which commemorates the successful Norman invasion of England in 1066.
OMG! In the next video you went to literally all the places I suggested. Obviously you're not posting this on the same day that you did it, so I guess I'm psychic or something.
That was absolutely gorgeous! Awesome video, guys. And congrats on reaching 10K subscribers!!! I'm so happy to see you continuing to grow so quickly the past few months!
I saw this island on fb and thot, "umm... I'd like a closer look". Your video did an amazing job! Would have liked to have seen the inside...but not complaining. Thank you! Felt like I was actually there.
It is so gorgeous on the inside too! There are some shots of it on a video we just made on our channel if you're interested. "5 Tips for Visiting Normandy" :)
So excited 😊. Been waiting anxiously for the next chapter to this amazing ride!!! Absolutely, wonderfully beautiful! Your drone work takes it to a whole new level...great investment you two.🤓🤘🏻🦋What an incredible church! The views take my breath away..As always, be safe and see you soon.
Hodge Hill Girls School. BIRMINGHAM. UK. “Mont San Michel”. I once visited this beautiful place, having never heard of it. I found myself at this incredible location due to a series of events that took place during the month of June, 1983. A friend and I had recently celebrated our 18th birthdays, and we booked a camping holiday near to the French, Brittany town of Cancale. The day of departure from BIRMINGHAM coach station, saw us aboard a double decker coach. We sat aloft. On the journey out of the city, a housing estate captured my interest. The estate lay to the right of the motorway, I saw a working man´s club, petrol station, small shopping precinct and a large secondary school perched on the hill overlooking the estate. I also noticed particular homes and their neat front gardens. We arrived at the camp site, located on the outskirts of Cancale. We soon discover that there was a group of school girls on an end of term cultural trip, also at the camp site. They told us they were from Hodge Hill Girls School, Hodge Hill, BIRMINGHAM. They had arrived in two mini vans, so I guess there may have been approximately 20 in their party. The girls were aged 15 and 16. Instincts kicked in, and so did the only game in town. My friend and I somehow got invited by the teachers, to accompany them all on a day trip. We must have appeared to be reasonably safe and respectable. We travelled at the very rear of one of the decrepit mini buses in a couple of spare seats. We had no idea at this point where we were heading. We supplied the teachers with Tape Cassettes, and were soon travelling through French country side listening music of the band of the day “Japan”. We eventually arrived at Mont San Michel, and we began our pilgrimage against gravity. We slowly meandered up through the cobbled streets, taking in nearly all of the gift shops, until we eventually arrived at the summit, in the company of our new friends. Lunch time came around, and we all ate in the grounds immediate to the Abbey. The views was spectacular. The company was very lovely and 1983 school girl esc. I can still visualize where we sat to eat, and with whom we sat. I sensed that something very synchronistic was taking place. The holiday ended, and my friend and I returned home. Part two of this story commenced after receiving a phone call, from one of those delightful young ladies. I would later learn that the housing estate that had caught my attention was home to most of the girls and the secondary school on the hill was their school.
I was searching some inspirtion for my final project of University (3D career) and stumbled upon your video. I have to say that it was really really cool! I appreciate the professionalism, chill vibe and great shots. No cringe involved or anything, really great video. Blessings!
If you want to know how the Mont St Michel looked like before they started build on it, is to take a look at a small island near Le Mont. Yes, visiting the church at the top of the island is not free but it's obviously worth it. BUT there's a lot of stairs. You think you've arrived ? NO, MORE STAIRS.
been there many years ago and would actually love to go back one day, if I remember rightly the street with all the shops and restaurants and bars just looked incredible. only problem was when I was there I was far too young to drink or anything
You will! If you plan it, it will happen! :) When you go, learn about what this place means to the French people and it adds so much gravitas to your visit. We just made a video about it on our channel if you're interested. "5 Tips for Visiting Normandy" :)
I believe Mont Saint-Michel (MSM) becomes a proper island fully surrounded by water for only a few hours on certain days during the year. Other than these few hours, you are still able to walk on the bridge to/from MSM even in high tide.
CONGRATS ON THE 10k!!!! Them drone shots are unreal! Looks like a beautiful place to go visit. Alison driving a stick haha Weird how that is so normal for me!
"Church and State, Soul and Body, God and Man, are all one at Mont Saint Michel, and the business of all is to fight, each in his own way, or to stand guard for each other." I want to build a seasonal blacksmith shop there...
OMG YOU GUYS NEED TO LIKE THESE VIDEOS IT HELPS ALOT AND THIS IS AN AMAZING VIDEO AND DRONE FOOTAGE I REALLY HOPE YOU GUYS GO BACK AND GET IN TO THE CHURCH IT WOULD REALLY BE WORTH IT ID LOVE LOVE TO SEE IT
I'm pretty sure the Tour de France has had a time trial finish there. If not then there's another similar place in northwestern France! Oh and congratulations on hitting 10k. Keep up the good work guys :)
Been there.we had an extanded lunch at "la mere poulard" when we had a soufled omelette out of this world.the hotels were full so we parked by the water and slept the night.these people were waliking there at loo tide.you dont fool around with the tides.they are vey dangerous.
Well this is how tide works, water comes and goes 😉 But everytime fascinating, especially when the hight difference is so huge as there 😊 And Mont St. Michel is definetly on my bucket list, so amazingly surreal beautiful! (btw really nice and interesting channel, glad I found you recently 😊)
Wasn't really the tide we found fascinating. Just the fact that it rises to the bottom and water locks the castle. Pretty magical. Glad you're enjoying it!
amazing place and for me as a carpenter I can not help but think of the countless man hours and huge effort involved in building this back then. stone is much harder to work with than wood, yet it is just absolutely covered in carved stone, every block was had chiseled, really truly amazing to me. now a days if you do not complete a huge custom home in a year you get backcharged possibly to the point of making no many for your work at all and there is no appreciation for craftsmen. this had to have took many many years to construct. probably also no appreciation for the craftsman but at least they were given the time to do it.
There is also a st michaels mount in Cornwall , also a causeway island that is cut off from the mainland at high tide , the two must be linked in some way
Well, in the 16th century it was still in construction, it was often attacked and had several massive fire so... not the best place to live in. And it didn't get better, in 1615 the abbé (the religious who rules the abbaye) was only 5 years old, not the best to defend it and then it became a prison for a while so..
they are twin monastery ,william the conqueror gave the monastery of St michel (who gave him support while he was in england) some land in england and they decide to remake the same monastery there
lordgunner TGSTEL: more than that, the designer of the Bayeux Tapestry was Scolland, the treasurer and chief illuminator from Mont St Michel, whereas the first Earl of Cornwall was Brian of Brittany, brother to Alan Rufus who seems to have been a friend of Scolland’s: Alan Rufus appears in most of the Bayeux Tapestry. Alan was also William the Conqueror’s palace guard captain and a hero celebrated by 12th century poets.
Viva la France! I honestly used to hate France, just because of stories I heard of Paris. Not very logical. That's like judging America by Los Angeles. France is the best
Absolutely agree! Especially in Normandy. There is such respect toward America. Even flying the flag of America at equal height of the French flag at their town halls where an American army had liberated it. When we were there - it brought a tear to the eye when a mother was teaching her small children in French about Omaha Beach and what was done for them there. Very touching. We visit every year and made a video of our "5 Tips for Visiting Normandy" on our channel if you're interested.
Please guys call a building for what it is. This is an Abbey/Monastery, a Castle has battements, towers, thick walls & some have a moat. Have you been to Iguazu Falls on the border Argentina & Brazil there are 275 individual drops. Happy exploring
Thanks for the note! We certainly understand it's a Monastery (hence the title), it's just a bit instinctive to call it a castle. And thanks for the recommendation, we haven't been there but we'll have to see it some day!
I visited Mont Saint-Michel in 2000 and it still pops in my mind frequently as one of the most fascinating places I've ever visited. Something about it really stuck with me. Loved seeing you guys explore it!
I think it'll have the same effect on us. So unique!
evilgiraffey me too. I went there there in 07. Hoping to go back in the next few years.
Went in 1975…probably won’t get back, but its beauty is etched in my mind.
The city of Minas Tirith in the "The Lord of the Rings" was inspired by the Mont Saint michel and the Sacré-Coeur in Paris
Makes sense. Two magical structures 😍
I've never seen any evidence of this
@@stevencassidy6982 Tolkien was in France during World War I, he goes there after
So I wasn't imagining it!
Nogent: Tolkien also named Aragorn and Rohan after Bretons. (Oh, and the elves are like them too.)
I just had so many childhood flashbacks of when I visited Mont Saint Michel with my parents when I was a child. Thank you!
That's awesome!
The monestary is amazingly beautiful. You are so lucky to be able to travel all over the world. Only in my dreams!
My Wife and I will be spending her 50th birthday here (2 nights on the Island)
Thanks for walking around it, that is something I was hoping we could do.

In the old times, you could see dragons flying around. Now it is a helicopter. Sad! 😋

Wow that sure looks magnificent. I think I've only seen some photos of this island 🏝 in France 🇫🇷 on the internet.
Anyway good evening from Ireland 🇮🇪
Thanks for that visit, it looks totally amazing!!
Lucky enough to have visited there, it's one of my favourite places so far too.
I wish one day I can be here.
Yea. That's clear, mate.
You know, 1000 years ago the bridge wasn't here! So yes...
CONGRATS ON THE 10k!!!!
Them drone shots are unreal! Looks like a beautiful place to go visit.
Alison driving a stick haha Weird how that is so normal for me!
+iamtimchung thanks mate! 🎉 and yeah, us Americans are obsessed with our automatics 😂
Awesome place, certainly has a spot on my bucket list.
Some great shots as always, thanks for taking us along!
Definitely worth a visit! Glad we could give you a little taste of what it's like :)
"Church and State, Soul and Body, God and Man, are all one at Mont Saint Michel, and the business of all is to fight, each in his own way, or to stand guard for each other."
I want to build a seasonal blacksmith shop there...
I went there as a kid. I would love to go back!
It's a fairytale castle! 😮
For real!

Such an amazing place ❤
I first thought was it would be dope to metal detect the perimeter, bet you find some kool shiat
Old coins and goblets and such from the middle ages maybe
I'm pretty sure the Tour de France has had a time trial finish there. If not then there's another similar place in northwestern France! Oh and congratulations on hitting 10k. Keep up the good work guys :)
+stevenrose86 that's awesome! And thanks a ton 😊
one of my favourite places I've ever been to
Ours too! What a crazy/amazing place!

All I have to say is wow!
😍
Wow! This is incredible! It's simply beautiful! And what's crazy - I'm going to St Michael's Mount in Cornwall this May.
+Audrone's Life so glad you enjoyed it! We'll definitely have to checkout the one in Cornwall too 👍
Well this is how tide works, water comes and goes 😉 But everytime fascinating, especially when the hight difference is so huge as there 😊
And Mont St.
Watch out for the quicksands
Steven Cassidy: the Couesnon River will get you every time. 😱
amazing place and for me as a carpenter I can not help but think of the countless man hours and huge effort involved in building this back then. stone is much harder to work with than wood, yet it is just absolutely covered in carved stone, every block was had chiseled, really truly amazing to me. now a days if you do not complete a huge custom home in a year you get backcharged possibly to the point of making no many for your work at all and there is no appreciation for craftsmen. this had to have took many many years to construct. probably also no appreciation for the craftsman but at least they were given the time to do it.
There is also a st michaels mount in Cornwall , also a causeway island that is cut off from the mainland at high tide , the two must be linked in some way
Good I'm hooked now thanks to your video, this is super awesome, I have to go now.
Do ittttt!!!
If I lived in the 16th century, I would die to live here
BrOcCoLi SaLaD: if you lived in the 10th century, and were Duke Conan, you’d be buried here.
Well, in the 16th century it was still in construction, it was often attacked and had several massive fire so... not the best place to live in. And it didn't get better, in 1615 the abbé (the religious who rules the abbaye) was only 5 years old, not the best to defend it and then it became a prison for a while so..
There s a St Michael's Mount in Cornwall. Very similar.
they are twin monastery ,william the conqueror gave the monastery of St michel (who gave him support while he was in england) some land in england and they decide to remake the same monastery there
lordgunner TGSTEL: more than that, the designer of the Bayeux Tapestry was Scolland, the treasurer and chief illuminator from Mont St Michel, whereas the first Earl of Cornwall was Brian of Brittany, brother to Alan Rufus who seems to have been a friend of Scolland’s: Alan Rufus appears in most of the Bayeux Tapestry. Alan was also William the Conqueror’s palace guard captain and a hero celebrated by 12th century poets.
Thank you for sharing this, Jared Leto
Viva la France!
I honestly used to hate France, just because of stories I heard of Paris. Not very logical. That's like judging America by Los Angeles. France is the best
Absolutely agree! Especially in Normandy. There is such respect toward America. Even flying the flag of America at equal height of the French flag at their town halls where an American army had liberated it. When we were there - it brought a tear to the eye when a mother was teaching her small children in French about Omaha Beach and what was done for them there. Very touching. We visit every year and made a video of our "5 Tips for Visiting Normandy" on our channel if you're interested.
i agree. :)
@Patriote de France it really is a lack of education. France and the USA have taken turns helping eachother out. We're bros
Es uno de mis castillos favoritos es hermoso lo que ocurre comon magico me encanta!!
Ohh man .. great work 👍
it's twin is off Cornwall, England and called St Michael's Mount. Also one in Ireland
Amazing beauty .
did you go into the abbey church? it's like the highlight of it all!
Tides come in and out every 6 hours btw, so is in twice a day and out twice a day.
I will visit this place one day.
Straight out of a fairytale🦋
Yet again, great video!
Thanks!
