- 54-year-old Nicolae Miu of Minnesota was found guilty of first-degree reckless homicide in the death of 17-year-old Isaace Schuman. Miu stabbed the teenager and other victims while they were tubing along the Apple River. KARE’s Lou Raguse reports.

@jackson9282 Look , the young adults learned a valuable lesson don't harass people who appear to be weaker than you. I doubt those young adults would have acted like that with middle-aged athletic adults. Instead they chose to prey in the vulnerable and one paid with his life.
See here's the thing self defense only works when you're not the one who instigated the violence, you can't hit a girl then claim self defense for stabbing the guy who steps in to defend the girl you hit....
Dude was told to go away and there was a verbal argument over him creeping on young girls he decided to press the conflict and escalate it by hitting a girl, a grown adult should be responsible enough to walk away when a bunch of teens start a verbal conflict weather they're right or not instead he made the choice to stay and escalate the issue now ask your self why he would do that and why a jury might have difficulty seeing self defense in this situation....

@@ChantelJordan-fm7kx And besides the "proportional" argument (which is of course very important) it was him approaching them for no reason. The owner of the phone told him to leave the phone he was looking for behind. Miu himself told the police that the group acted out before "kids being kids" are his words. But he still grabbed his knife (made sure it's with him) and approached, shoved someone and things went south from there.
You can't claim self defense when you are the problem.

He come to their area and started the fight, he hit the girl first, then friends come in to defend her. He had options of walking away He didn't. What happened next shouldn't have happened. The jury weren't as dumb as you thank God

Lying to authorities like he did, ditching the knife, and everything else pretty much shown he wasn't really in fear for his life. The two biggest things that did him in was lying and not contacting the police right away after the stabbing took place.

We all need to STOP SNITCHING.....on ourselves! This guy should've called 911, told them someone's been stabbed, and add "I will not give a statement on the phone." Then when the cops arrived, he should've said, "You have witnesses, let them give statements, I will not speak without my attorney present." If he'd remained silent (like Kyle Rittenhouse) this trial would've gone very differently.

first of all, he was the first one who provoked. secondly, after murdering one and stabbing 4 others, he fled the scene, ditched the knife on the other side of the river, put on glasses and a hat, and then lied about what he did, pretending he wasn't there to the police. and thirdly, his response for getting pushed is to stab five people????

I feel for Miu. As someone who was bullied a lot as a kid I can not sympathize with the supposed victims in this case. Miu had no criminal record. I think he should get out on time served, be on probation for a few years and try to go on with his life. Instead he will rot in prison until he dies. It's not fair in my eyes.

It's a just verdict. On the first photo 0:13 you can see that Ryhleh Mattison is already stabbed, and dangerously wounded by him, and there hadn't been a fight yet. These people wanted him to go away, but he was in a rage, and was out for blood.
They didn't do anything to him, and they never were a threat to his life.
Someone has his right hand on mr. Miu's throat, as you can see on the picture, and that's Isaac Shuman, the boy who died. It LOOKS like he's trying to choke him, but that's not what happens.
His hand makes that automatic move to his throat, because he's being stabbed in the chest at that very moment, and he would almost immediately die. He was only gently trying to stop him.

He had plenty of chances to walk away and not be a creep around a bunch of kids. He was probably looking for an excuse to commit murder and now he has paid the price. Also didn't help that a few times he lied to authorities.
The fact that he lied does not support his guilt, he could have lied because he didn't know the law an assumed he'd get in trouble when he wouldn't have. The real strong fact of his guilt is that he hit someone first, putting him the position of someone who was guilty of a crime trying to stab his way away from people trying to stop him from committing further crimes.
Insane how many think it was just what Miu did. Imagine he would've gotten away with this. We would see raging boomers everywhere seeking altercations with young people to claim self defense in the end.
I mean you are worried that the teens didn't learn their lesson (which is absurd on its own since they lost a friend, got stabbend and traumatized) but none of you seems to consider the message it would send if Miu would've walked.
