- It's now tradition for me to play a Tekken game before EVO, and this time I review one of my favorites: Tekken 3
Subscribe: bit.ly/Subscrib...
About The Game:
There's a time jump in Tekken 3 that leaves behind a lot of the previous characters but gives the opportunity for us to become invested in a new generation of fighters. Jin trains with his grandfather Mishima and an ancient spirit called Ogre is being summoned to fight, aaaaand cue the tournament! What made Tekken 3 stand out was its fluid gameplay (for its time) and poppin' music (timeless! Seriously. 70s funk guitar!).

Tekkens 3 soundtrack was so badass, I always turn in out when playing tekken 7
Vongolawing Jace I'd like the original theme music for the legacy characters, alongside the current arcade ones
Who do you have to thank for Tekken 3's music? That would be none other than Keiichi Okabe. The man who is also responsible for the masterpiece that is NieR's soundtrack, as well as the NieR Automata and the Drakengard soundtracks. The man certainly does not get the recognition he deserves for the incredible work he's done.
True, but in the long run, it's Nobuyoshi Sano that made more tracks. Also, props must also be given to Hiroyuki Kawada, Minamo Takahashi and Yuu Miyake for their contributions to the PlayStation soundtrack.
Asi9 Sanodg > Keiicho Okabe
@@MetalGearW0lf I've seen one Akitaka Tohyama mentioned a lot in the OST for 6, Tag 2 and 7. Dunno if he/she's the new composer, but I do dig his/her work a lot
This explains alot. All of these games have killer soundtracks
Tekken 3 and Tekken 5's music are legendary
Who else played Tekken 3 as their first ever fighting game?
Nana-Kyoto I'm pretty sure either tekken 3 or crash bandicoot 3 was the first video game i ever played
Mine was the first MK
Nana-Kyoto it was my first, I played when I was like 4
I got "Bloody Roar" :)
Not my first ever fighting game, that was Street Fighter II Turbo, but Tekken 3 was my first 3D fighting game.
“It’s got my favourite character, Eddy Gordo.”
Every Tekken fan: Oh no, he’s a masher
Every single people even pro players: oh no!
But everyone was an eddy player at some point
Carlos Luna Pizarro Guerra well, you’re not wrong 😂
@@clunapizarrog48 hell nah i'll never play eddy
ZOOM ZOOM CAPOEIRA
I played eddy when I was like 8
Tekken 3 definitely was a pretty great PS1 game, a classic staple really. Tekken 2 was great but Tekken 3 took the formula and improved it even more. It's really not surprising that it's considered a legacy game. :)
Decadent Gamer no kidding.
@home9dog2blue Sorta lol Like the home version of Tekken Tag gave us even more detailed character models which still look good for their time but I feel like the other things like stage design and music kinda went down a notch but that's just my own subjective opinion lol
Tekken 2 was perfect...never really liked Tekken 3 that much. Music was worse, final boss was worse, backgrounds were worse, sound effects were worse (announcer and the hits sounded more like slaps) Sidestepping makes the fights more random. Backstepping is enough for me.
@@RJ-cq8dd Definitely subjective opinion. I do like Tekken 2. I will agree that Tekken 2 had a better soundtrack even though I actually like the Industrial Rock inspired sound that Tekken 3's OST was centered around. I also agree that the background stage designs were a lot better in Tekken 2 as well. The main thing I like about Tekken 3 was the control. The thing that makes it sometimes hard to go back to with Tekken 2 is how stiff the characters can feel at times.
Tekken 3 the mother of all fighting games no one can convince me otherwise !
Straight up
I played Tekken 5 on my PSP, man! That's how I got to know the game and fall in love with it....
I didn't have Tekken 3. I had Tekken 3 demo on the Ridge Racer Bonus Disc. I still had a complete blast playing it!
Schwarz Rin Eddy and Xiaoyu were the only characters right? I had the Jampack demo disc
ShardOfKingdoms Yep
"I play tekken before every evo"
Then we shudda got 4 and 5 by now
Now Tekken 6 by now
Finally! A game I completed.
This video has reminded me of how hard Tekken Force was. That was a memory I had forever forgotten. I don't know how I ended up doing it. I don't remember dying that much, but I definetly I remember running out of time on stage four.
Also, a cool feature in Tekken 3 was that your savestate (the one that came out when you plugged your PS with no game on it) told you what to do next in order to unlock everything.
EDIT:
And in the savestate the game used to aknowledge you for completing everything!!
My save file just said more battles await. Or something like that
tekken 5 had such a beautiful intro, the song was freaking incredible and fighting was the best it had ever been in the tekken franchise, truly deserving the the title of a sequel with all the huge abundance of characters and emulators of previous tekkens except the 4th one included just for the "fun" of it.Hopefully you do the completionist review on it next just for history records
Tekken 5 is by far my favorite in the franchise. Soooo good!
M.Grey I feel like the only one that hates the T5 intro. I like the Honmaru part where Kaz and Hei fight the Jacks but anything after that......nooo.
M.Grey don't forget Tekken 5's awesome customization and Arcade History
Tekken 5 is my favorite out of the post-T3 era by far. Love the crazy amount of extras and the rival fights + endings, which are sorely missing from Tekken 7 :/
CappuccinO80 I think it's missing characters that why I think it feels empty.
This video made me fondly remember all those days and hours spent in versus and beach ball mode with my ex-best friend, we'd have hundreds upon hundreds matches each session and have just about same W/L -ratio each and every time. He was the one who knew just about every combo and I learned all the spots where one could cut them off. After those times, other fighting games with other friends haven't felt the same. It's always good to see more people enjoying this one.
AHH YES!! Wanted you to do this forever!
Not sure if anyone cares but if you guys are stoned like me atm you can stream all of the latest movies and series on Instaflixxer. I've been watching with my gf for the last couple of months :)
Heihachi is actually Dr Wily and the entire Classic Mega Man Series takes place between Tekken 2&3
I almost wish that was cannon. If for nothing else than to hear Pat from Switcher complain about it.
Could be, might explain why Bad Box Art Mega Man is in Street Fighter X Tekken.
If that's true then why can't Wily do the Noogie Necksnap?
He only LOOKS like Wily.
Anyone going to be at EVO?
That One Video Gamer not me, but I'll be watching SFV pools. I prefer the pools because of the variety of characters used.
That One Video Gamer naw that would require walking and we don't really see eye to eye
That One Video Gamer naw that would require walking and we don't really see eye to eye
That One Video Gamer naw that would require walking and we don't really see eye to eye
alas i can't travel to the US to meet the cool peeps at EVO :c
19:29 Eddy Gordo is not a kickboxer
sk8erlprj That's right, he knows Capoeira. He was probably mistaken for Dee-Jay from Street Fighter or Bruce Irvin who knows Muay Thai.
He brings up his proper fighting style at 6:57. He was making a joke
Lol that right, you tell him
Capoeirista. Though Eddie goes on to become Maestre.
The art of the swaying tall grass.
This Michael person should switch to decaf.
That's Santel for you. He is always like this. He can be dead tired and he still acts like this
or stop doing drugs lol
ever heard of drugs son?
He’s also gay 🤣
About a year and a half after this episode, the Super Couch Fighters ended. Michael left "That One Video Gamer" network to work on his voice acting career as well as starting a podcast. Brett would start a new affiliated channel called Weekend Warriors with a rotating cast of special guest hosts. Weekend Warriors would quietly shut down in March of 2020, and Brett would become a full time member of The Completionist crew, and would also join Gerard and Alex as a third member of the Super Beard Brothers. BTW, Brett's last name is "Bayonne". Don't know why he chose to hide it, as it's a pretty badass name.
Does this mean you'll play Tekken Tag Tournament next time or jump straight to Tekken 4?
rainfire19 They should do Tag it's one of the best and they need to treat themselves because 4 was such a disappointment.
Best of Tekken: Tekken 3, Tag, 5, Tag 2 and 7
CyberNinjaZero tekken 4 was only a disappointment to the idiots who didn't appreciate how great and unique it really is.
willznuts I prefer Tekken 4 over Tekken 3
willznuts Tekken 4 is with infinite wall combos and Jins unblockables.
Or don't appreciate how poorly balanced and broken the game was.
I remember around 2002 when i was about 12-13 years old playing this game almost every day in a Gaming Arcade around the corner where is used to live. I remember playing with an oily old ps1 controller that went probably trough 100000 of hands. Nostalgia 🤣🤣
I LOVED TEKKEN 3 WHEN I WAS YOUNGER! THANK YOU FOR DOING A VIDEO ON IT!
Tekken 3 was my first home console game. Needless to say, I love it.
11:26
Plot twist: Jirard was pulling the strings all along and achived huge power.
I spent so many years playing this game it's like a part of me
You need to finish the series, *FINISH IT!*
This brought me right back to 1997 when I was 10 years old. Thank you guys so much, much love!
Jirard, please do a video on Psychonauts
soul blade and this were PHENOMENAL
loving the napstabluk t shirt
Tekken 3 was actually my first fighting game. My brother-in-law had it when I first met him, and we'd play it together sometimes (and he'd kick my butt 12 ways to Sunday with Eddie).
14:06-14:11 Nice Xavier Renegade Angel reference. Waiting for Nostalgia Critic to do it.
what a fun episode love when the couch fighters appear in any episode they are the best
Michael makes me wanna watch Couch Fighters
It's good stuff. The "Run it backs" are fun, and when they play newer games they go pretty in depth into stuff without being off putting. Their Tekken 7 vids taught me a lot
Tekken 3 was the first Tekken I ever owned and had my favorite Tekken character of all time, Jin. So cool that you finally played this one on the show.
"It has my favorite character Eddy Gordo" *unsubed, reported for affiliations with ISIS*
1997: Tekken 3, Street Fighter III, Symphony of the Night, Wu-Tang Forever and the Monday Night Wars. What a time to be alive.
still have tekken3 intro as my phone ring tone
My Mains Throughout Tekken:
Tekken 3 - Eddy
Tekken 4 - Jin
Tekken 5 - Paul
Tekken 6 - Bob
Tekken 7 - Hwoarang
Nice, I mained hwoarang back in tekken tag tournament 2.
I love the Super Couch Fighters X Completionist crossover!
Super solid episode! Man.. I have to start playing Tekken again.. in the words of Aaron Lewis "it's been awhile".(blech)
That one Couch fighter. =)
We need to have a completionist episode of Tekken 4
the arcade ost is better.
Indeed
My first Tekken was Dark Resurrection and I’ve loved this franchise ever since
EDDIE GORDO IS LIFE!!!
David Jordan except for a certain dancer.
When me and my friends played, we never were allowed to play Eddie. Cause he's a button mash character ^^
Yoshimitsu for life!
Lol you were shunned at my house if you chose Eddie.
Eddy is for noobs!
Tekken was my childhood game one of my very first games I played and I'm so glad that I have the disc till this day
"It has my favorite character, Eddy Gordo" *unsubscribes*
"Old Gramps McMurder Face?" I LOVE IT!!!
YESSSSSSSS!!! FINAAAALLY
itsyaboisnacks GT I knew I wasn't the only one waiting
Around 20-21 minutes in brett looks like that one kid during a class presentation who is so emotionally involved in the subject but doesn't want to overdo it
YO! SHOUT out to the super couch fighters!
Tekken 3 wasn't the first one I indulged in, but it was the first one I sat down for the full experience. A new friend I met stayed behind after everyone else left and we went all the way through Tekken 3...granted he had to do most of the game since I wasn't knowledged at all, but we went from midnight to 7AM and it was a great old time.
Novice players in Tekken 3 might say "who needs this old, crazy dude when you got a capoeira fighter that can used to button mashing?"
What you didn't realize is Doctor B. is extremely terrifying, even more terrifying than True Ogre, if it's in the hands of professional players.
Yo, very slight correction guys: You unlock Tekken Ball by beating Arcade Mode with any 10 characters, and you unlock Theater Mode by beating Arcade Mode with the base 10 characters. Sick video though!
Gon is the best character. it's a two foot tall Trex with boxing gloves. We need more characters like that.
Alex
If you really pick Gon in vs matches you deserve to get punched in the dick.
holy shit I forgot about him.. lmao.. Even including him though.. Hwoarang was the best then yoshimitsu
+Jeffrey ikr? Which is why I keep hoping they put Makochii from Puchimasu (an Idolmaster anime spinoff) in a Tekken game (she's canonically been taught by "A Pointy-Haired Old Man", and they've referenced the Zaibatsu in at least one of the strips)
Jeffrey that has an awesome ass attack
My family banned playing as Eddie cuz he was such BS. We also banned using the same move multiple times in a row. Best memories playing with my cousins. They owned the game, so I never had a clue the hoops you had to go through to unlock everything.
Hes got an undertake shirt rip the comments section
Holy crap! Someone remembers Xavier: Renegade Angel!
Jun is Not dead shes just missing
Niko Walch ogre have some of her moves. :)
Niko Walch Think she became "Unknown" though that may not be cannon
Debenex Unknown is not canon.
Debenex tekken tag is Not cannon but I think shes making a return in tekken 8
she's dead dumbass
Aw man, I really hoped Jirard would do his marathon of the ending cutscenes like he did for the previous Tekkens, but I understand the format changed. I really hoped he would do it because of how hilarious those were.
Can you do crash bash next?
Mic Clank CHAINS OF OLYMPUS AND JAK 2
NEXT? Are you crazy?!
He still hasn't finished Dark Souls 2, I think Crash Bash 200% can wait. I'm serious, Crash Bash 200% is ridiculously hard.
Why would you wish that on Jirard?
Tactician Geek I'M EVIL! But I'm really excited for Jak 2 and 3
I grew up playing MVC but I remember my uncle giving me Tekken 3 as a gift and man was I hooked. I also recall how my cousin broke my memory card, forcing me to start from scratch and unlock everyone. Totally didn't mind though, the game was one heck of a fun experience
PSX best waifu
Tekken Force Mode.... holy shit did stage 4 kick my ass over and over again
jirard dont be silly and review super smash bros melee already
mr prickley that game is not that good
as a casual game no, but i gotta say the competetive scene is pretty good
Melee isn't "good," per say, but is one of the tightest fighting games. It invented the pro scene for smash and is STILL going on. So I think we can't say it doesn't deserve praise.
Alex Kendall I'm talking about unexploited melee no wave dashing l cancelling none of that the game is very average and there is not enough to it to get the completionist treatment
What do you think SSB4 is xD it just has more characters. Though I do agree that it's too small for the completionist. But he did Undertale... so idk.
Everything about Tekken 3.... and I mean EVERYTHING about it at the time, felt PERFECT!!!
my only problem with tekken 3 is that bob didn't exist yet
or steve fox, lucky chloe and much more crazy characters
Yoshiharu Studio Steve is kinda cool.Bob is decent but Lucky Chloe is just trash imo.
I didn't own a PS2 as a kid, so the only time I've played Tekken 3 was when I was really young at a friends house. I remember two dragon-like characters that were my favorites because they looked like dragons...
NAPSTABLOOK SHIRT. WHERE GET.
The mention of a time skip made me realize something: In one piece, the strawhats were separated longer than they were a crew.
Is it me, or were the jokes in this episode were forced?
Just wanna say i love the bass drop with the super saiyan transformation
ogre=shrek
Job de Wolff You're barred.
Not only was Tekken 3 my first ever fighting game, but it was also my first ever game, full stop. I found a copy of the game at a store called Hertex for 200 kr. just last week. That's less than 2 dollars for your information. I also found copies for MediEvil, Oddworld: Abe's Exodus and the original Resident Evil, each on the same price as Tekken 3. I can't begin to describe to you how hyped I got.
My family went to this caravan park every month with an arcade and Tekken 3 and HOLY SHIT I played so much of this.
I loved how Gon's ending just looped 😂😂
Eddy is not a kickboxer. He is a capoeira fighter
I like that Michael dude. He was pretty funny in this video :D Hope to see him again in future episodes
It's amazing how playable this game still is. I still find a machine in arcades once in a while (I'm in Asia) and get sucked in for hours
Tekken 3 is when I came in into the scene, what a time to be alive.
Damn you Jirard. how dare you tug at my heart strings with that fighting game montage with Celine Dion. sniff sniff. I'm not crying. you're crying.
Tekken 3 was... and still is THE BEST tekken in the series
I STILL HAVE THIS GAME
It's crazy that the only Tekken games I've played are Tekken 5 and Tekken 7, because this one looks awesome!
gon in the animated series is the MOST sadistic character I have ever seen
So stoked seeing the couch fighters. So Hype!
Yet he wasn't on the rib episode
Hwoarang was my go to guy. He has literally the best fight move catalogue ever. not only does he have moves for a regular stance, but he has different moves depending on if you switch his leg position or arm position or both. alot of my button mashing friends knew the stance change as the 'hwoarang dance' because every time they button mashed, he'd start doing this leg shuffle where he just stood there swapping leg stance or arm stances, and they had no clue what was happening. ENTER THE HWOARANG EXPERT PUPPETEER....(me) to show them how to use him and kick their asses into next week in the process. he was a character, who along with eddy gordo, bought tekken to a whole new level of technicality. and thanks to the 'one button, one limb' way of controlling these dudes, you literally felt like an epic fight master puppeteer...''dance for me little polygonal computer generated puppet DAaAaAaANCE MWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!.....ahem'' so like i said...best tekken ever
Tekken 3 is such a 90s icon 😎 I still remember hearing the announcers funny voice playing in arcade lol 😂
Tekken 2 was my first but Tekken 3 just felt like everything clicked and it came into it's own
I've been waiting for this one, the best of the series
I am watch all you vídeos, But Man, this one is perfect tear apart The SOULS from our friends is magic
It's interesting enough that tekken force was so big that it basically became the way that the game played for the tekken 6 story mode.
I came across Tekken 3 in the check-in office of a lodging place I went to on vacation for a few summers. At the time, I didn't know what it was but I always found myself coming back to it. I always played King and a few years of coming back, I beat the game! To this day, I know and preform all of King's victory animations when I win a match of Tekken.
Great vid. Keep pumping them out
Love your reviews Jirard
Tekken 3 and Tekken 5 were best in the Franchise
T3 were soo damn good that people at my neighbourhood would gather at someones house to hold a local street tournaments , man those were the days :)
I loved this game to pieces. I don't really enjoy fighting games as much as the typical fan but this game had EVERYTHING, it just kept on giving. I miss the times where games could surprise you with this instead of asking you 20$ on unwanted but necessary DLC. Last time I felt a game was this complete was ironically CoD: Black Ops with the campaign, multiplayer, zombies and Dead Ops Arcade.
how I wish current Tekken games still had Tekken Ball! The hours i spent playing that mode with my friends were countless!
Started playing Tekken again this week (T7 this time) after passively playing T3 at a friend's house when I was little, and damn... I completely forgot how cool and intuitive the general fighting system is.
I'll always love myself some traditional fine-tuned 2D fighters (as a SF player myself) but I'm growing child-like appreciation for Tekken again.
P.D: Despite not being as in-depth as Soul Calibur, the character customization is pretty neat.
I used to play tekken 3 in arcades..... later I bought playstation1 and my 1st copy of tekken 3 ...... Memories ❤
It's a miracle Tekken 3's soundtrack was as good as it is. Usually when games try to follow the current trends in music (in this case; the late 90s explosion of Big Beat music thanks to artists like The Prodigy, Chemical Bros, and Fatboy Slim), it ends up feeling fake and cheap, but here, it's amazing!
In all tekken ps1 games you could change on options between arcade and ps1 soundtrack and being able to play all tekken endings in theater mode by changing the CD in theater mode
Tekken 3 really set a standard, it just FELT good to play. As well as looking better and sounding better than the previous 2.
