Having played through the format several times in football manager, I can tell you it's mad.
You will hear new phrases like "the race for the top 8"
Or "can Villa squeeze into the all important 16th spot".
A new world lads and ladies.

Hot take: The mailbag is the best episode of the week right now. Great addition
I’ve been listening to the ramble since Euro 2008 (and even retrospectively listen to the early episodes without Pete with the guy who didn’t rate Brazilian Ronaldo) and the Rio impressions. So I think I might have listened to every episode or close to it
The show is really good again right now after a bit of a dip in the early 2020s
It’s weird to see the ramble going from very upstart content to now being a much more civilised discussion in an era where so much football chat is just wannabe roadmen yelling at each other about players they’re too young to have even watched

I much prefer their old stuff where they’re just having fun. I zone out of the current episodes when they’re not funny, and I’ve always listened to the pod as a comedy rather than a serious journalistic show. I understand why they would take new creative directions, but the episodes of the original four having a laugh is unmatched.

I potentially like the new UCL format. Games against many more teams in the first phase. But it's all going to depend on how accurately the seedings work out.

Glad that's it's not a straight knockout like it was in the 1980's where one of Real Madrid and Maradona" Napoli could suffer early elimination if the draw was unkind.
Now, it's gone too far to the other side with too many group stage games.

I don't think you're right about diving tainting a result. If you look back at the 2020 euros Sterling arguably dove for the pen vs Denmark, and no a single englishman ever cared. England played better and should have won the game, but the penalty was crucial for England turning the game around .

Guys the whole world laughed along with Argies about the hand of god. Englands concept of fair in sport vs history involved in global conflicts colonialism etc no one was going to feel sorry for them on the sporting field. And I love watching England play football, but it’s just a game. Love the podcast

Andy is too nerdy sometimes and takes the wind out of the sails of the conversation, and Jim adds the least of anyone. The Ramble is at its best when they’re just chatting shit and having a laugh.
