About Austria & Ralf Rangnick: I think it is very important to point out that Rangnick did not just come in two years ago and then implemented his philosophy into Austria's national team. Rangnick has been the sporting director of RB Salzburg and RB Leipzig, so basically the entire Red Bull footballing world, from 2012 to 2020. I am personally not a fan of Red Bull in football in general, but it cannot be denied that they transformed Austria in footballing terms. Most of the successful Austrian players went through Red Bull's academy at Liefering, so like 80% of our national team was already familiar with Rangnick's philosophy before he even became our national manager.
He's basically managing an all-star team of players he formed with his philosophy. He is doing incredibly well and I love it, but it is VERY hard to replicate.

You were very gentle here. Kane looked shite, again. And this was realistically the last chance to take a punt on Watkins getting a start ahead of him, because no way Southgate will do it in the knockouts. Nothing England love more than bunging a half fit striker up front who's main contribution is scoring penalties against shit teams.

    • @NeilLewis77

      God no.
I don't want to play like Aston villa and hoof it up to a fast striker.
I want to create chances for our super star record breaking, current European top goal golden boot holder.
Portugal, Spain, Belgium could all pick young faster strikers but they instead pick their best striker.
And kane is better than current Ronaldo, Morata, Lukaku,
City bought Haaland, Bayern bought kane, barce bought lewendowski because having a guy who's amazing at scoring goals is really helpful.
Kane isn't just scoring penalties against crap teams.
He scored our only goal against the Danes, he hit the bar against the Serbs.
He looks dangerous every time we get him a chance near the box.

all haaland does is knock them in from 6 yards, but he gets bought and picked by pep and city becuase its really really important in football that someone keeps knocking in goals.
Kane is Englands all time greatest ever goal scorer, in his prime, bang in form.

Southgate’s tournament plan, from what I can tell, has been to rely on his safest players getting him through the group, using the young new players sparingly. It clearly hasn’t worked for him.
A braver manager would’ve gambled on Mainoo, Palmer and Gordon to start, benching one of Foden or Bellingham. Mainoo behind both Trent and Gallagher has been his worst mistake, IMO, but all three should’ve played significantly more.
I hope he swings for the fences in the knockout rounds and plays the youngsters, telling them to go out there and play without fear. Who cares if we lose in the second round or the final when it’s all or nothing? But ones thing is for sure, if we don’t play the kids, we won’t win.

If Shaw isn't fit, Saka needs to do a shift at left back. Walker on the right, Guehi & Stones as the center backs. Rice, Gallagher, Mainoo, will be the midfield three. Foden and Gordon on the wings, Kane can start as the 9. Rice can drop into the backline if they are being pressed or under duress. Functionally it can be a 5-2-3 which has been Southgates "best system". They can utilise the running of gordon and walker on either wings, have some actual midfield graft in Mainoo and Gallagher. Absolutely disagree. France have created even less than England has.

England are officially now part of 3 of the top 5 lowest scoring groups in european championship history.. Also the crazy thing is, everyone can see Englands problem. Everyone knows they need to play Saka on the left, and that dropping TAA wasnt the solution. But none of the England coaching staff can seem to solve this, instead they just copy Italy's set up without the players with the right characteristics.

It's not that amazing though. Germany, France and Spain are each in 2 of those groups as well (there are actually 6 groups included). stands to reason that those teams are in several of these since they are the teams who play most tournaments.

I really don’t know what has happened to the England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 team and how it has gotten so drastically bad, what is the root cause of this crisis, I hear “ it’s the manager, “ or “it’s the players “ or “we haven’t got the right players who can play in their best positions “ and why if it’s a management problem has nothing been done to resolve this issue, these players play every week for their club and they play at the highest level of the premier league, so why is it that they can’t bring this ability into the national squad, the national squad should not be having these issues, and when we hear that at least we aren’t going to play Germany, in the next stage, surely the correct attitude should be, bring it on, let’s give them a game, this sounds to me a very negative attitude, it’s just another thing that is making the problem a lot more worrying, it’s not the best way to approach the tournament with this attitude, it’s all negative energy and this is a very good set of players and they are very capable of playing to a very high standard which is vital to be a contender for the trophy, we can do it, but it’s the attitude of the team in general and this negativity is one of the problems, I don’t think it’s going to be fixed in time for this tournament, and we have to build a better squad for the next one, this is the euro championship, the next one is the world cup and if we go into that tournament with the same mindset as now that is going to end in tears, I’m sure Southgate is a good manager but we need a more realistic and more aggressive squad and let the players play together and in their own style, but most importantly we need to bring the youngsters into the game and make the squad of the future everything that we are today, unfortunately it is so bad and boring to see England playing, that I don’t think I will be watching the rest of their games, and let’s face it, there isn’t going to be many more

Portugal france holland and italy havent been great either. England havent been bad their group has. really negative teams ( england are icluded a bit but have been the most positive of the 4 ) We were better second half and shouldnt have to play negative defensive teams anymore. Defensively england have been good.
