Had the best coaching could have easily turned into a player who just listened to what the coaches say, but instead when you see him at Chelsea's all over the pitch look at his heat map. He's wherever the ball is is where he is cuz he knows if he has the ball he can create for this team. And I think that's exactly what we're talking about here. He's the perfect example

I think what a lot of Footballers and Pundits, don't see, or understand. Is that the vast majority of Football "Fans" don't go to watch football. They go to experience it. They go to scream, to chant and to shout. They go to have societal and communal interaction. To be part of a Tribe. To feel a part of something. They go to escape the economic system they are trapped in. They go to vent anger, and frustration. To give manifest to anxiety in their lives. The most visceral reactions are for goals (scoring, we are better than you), hurling abuse and (less and less these days) acts of violence, of physical dominance over your opponents over the other Tribe, i.e. the crunching tackle. We all know this deep down. It's the adrenaline rush, the dopamine dump that we go for, we go for the drug, not the football.

Some people just learn doing X fixes Y and when faced with an unfamiliar problem they just start spamming all the Xs they’ve picked up haha. If you actually understand the subject and WHY X fixes Y you can use that knowledge to come up with Z, which might fix a new problem.

That's what makes all pundits EXECUTE their bosses' INTENT the way they can, changing their nature in places. Fancy dresses and hair for the gurls, childish behavior for the token king's fool, and all that.

Extremely insightful discussion! Just wanted to make two requests. It would be amazing to have a more philosophical discussion on how specifically positional play has, in my opinion, killed off the old school no.10s and dribblers and how that is detrimental to the game (viewers and players). This relates to developing players like Taraabt who don't really fit into the positional play paradigm we see everywhere now. This is in the context of the current debate between two paradigms of positionism and relationism which has sprung up recently. Additionally, it would be absolutely brilliant to have David Brooks elaborate on his experiences in working with the kids in Palmeiras academy.

I genuinely think Martin Odegaard Is one of the best players in the world at the moment, top 10 maybe 15. When he's freed up by Rice, Partey or Jorgi on a good day....its incredible. His intelligence, vision and creativity is amazing.

Yes, players like Rodri, Odegaard, Jorginho, Silva, are so aware of the game state they can even help making sure players on the team are in the right place at the right time.

Absolutely fantastic discussion, aside from the part perpetuating the Ben White misunderstanding. He never said he doesn't like football. He said he doesn't watch football in his time off but loves playing it

Talking about youth coaching. My boy is 15. Loves a pass. He saw modric use the outside of the boot. Hes been working on it for years to the point hes good with it. His coach tells him few weeks ago to stop using the outside of the boot to pass. No reason, no justification. Just stop. Some coaches can be damaging to players.

Single-handedly restoring my faith in the RUclips football scene. So much misinformed content, sensationalism and just downright shit chatting but you keep producing higher and higher Q U A L I T Y content. Keep it up James. Much love.

I feel like in the last 10yrs we have a shortage of #10s playmakers/dribble kings. like in the 2010s we had messi, iniestsa, david silva, cazorla, hazard, fabregas, coutinho, kaka etc...these days most of the #10s are playing as #8s or false #9s

What he said about man marking you can usually see extremly well in big games with Haaland. Like City vs Madrid last years, Madrid was so busy marking and watching out for Haaland that all he had to do was let them and the rest of the team could just run over madrids defence.
