I was going to pick up six shooters over black Friday but even with hundo pricing the same weight vs a set of rogue calibrated plates was only about $200 less. Ended up going with the calibrated set.
The problem with those plates is that they are very thin. Unless you are a huge elite power lifter, those plates are not the most practical. They are nice though just hope you don't get buyers remorse.
I got six shooters new last year and picked up some older Ivanko revolvers used on good deals over last 3 months . The revolvers that are probably 10-20 yrs years old are cast better with very few imperfections and have more rounded edges. 6 holes are symetreic and more functional for exersize but 7 look better. Great review Brandon.
Great vid. I have the 6 shooters and gotta say every point you mentioned was spot on with my experience. Expect for my 45's the color was completely off compared to the the rest. The color was more like a light grey with yellowish shade. It was very noticeable next to a 35 or 25. I contacted Rogue and although it wasn't a performance or functional issue they did exchange them for new 45's. Now all of the plates are closer in color and yes, the finish could be better but overall I'm happy.
Great review Brandon. I owned the Ivanko Revolvers, and the quality was very similar to these as far as casting and paint quality. I would definitely go Rogue over Ivanko now if buying a revolver style plate due to the massive price difference. I'm not a huge fan of Rep's revolver style, but that's just a personal preference.

These plates look amazing and I would buy them if I was starting all over again. My Rogue calibrated plates are awesome and a big space saver, but they are a huge pain in the ass to load/deload. Especially the 55s.
Your 45s and 25s are pretty much spot on with what mine weigh. I've had mine for almost 2 years now and I'm really happy with the way the finish has held up. A couple nicks here and there but otherwise still look like new. I also have a few different shades of hammer tone grey but I dont mind that at all...
I ended up getting the machined plates for one of the same reason you got 6 shooters. It's all preference and you can't go wrong with either plate in my opinion. With the tolerance of the machined plates being up to 2% over the stated weight, I figured it could never hurt to have a little extra on the bar. At least two of my 45 plates weigh 45.8. I weighed the first 5, but one was lost in shipping and came late. I later got 4 more and never weighed those. The lowest I weighed was 45.2.
My gym has the ivanko revolvers and ivanko calibrated plates, I prefer the revolvers for all the reasons stated, but it’s nice to have the calibrated plates for meet prep.
I jumped on the rogue deal on calibrated steel plates this past Black Friday and reluctantly sold all my Ivanko Revolvers. After a month of use I have to say I regret it. Although the Rogue calibrated plates are pretty, the Revolvers were just way more functional and easier to move around.
You can't see the small cast marks in your videos. I wouldn't have guessed without the update. Good to know they are that accurate. I was expecting to go this route because of nostalgia for the ivankos, but they didn't do hundo pricing on them this year. Decided to go with the e-coat seconds on a small calibrated set.
Just so you know, they are both equally accurate, the 6 shooters are +/- 1% so that means it could be 1% more or 1% less. The deep dish plates are +2% / - 0% so it could be 2-0% more, never less. The deviation for both is 2% total
That’s a good call, but with the +2% you’re looking at a max of almost a full pound off as opposed to a max of less than half a pound off with the +/-1%
If you look at Rogue's site the company talks about its manufacturing plant in Columbus, with the millions of tons of steel it uses each year, but never explicitly says that all its products are made in America. I had just assumed it was all made in USA.
The machined plates aren’t +/- 2% they are -0% or +2% meaning the 45’s will weigh between 45.0 and 45.9 so they’re actually the same accuracy as the six shooters because they both have a .9 lb range
Another great video. Will these plates scratch up a barbell as opposed to calibrated plates? Are calibrated plates worth the extra money if I am worried about the barbell being damaged?
Awesome looking plates, I just got a good deal on the Rep Fitness equalizer pair of 25’s and change plates. I still might get these in the 45’s eventually.
I was thinking of these, but since I live in Canada, the shipping prices these out of my budget. I was in a local fitness store and I liked the York G2s for a couple reasons. Firstly, I like that all the plates look similar and secondly, the metal version of the weights have similar accuracy as the Rogue Six Shooters. The only thing holding me back is, I read on a bodybuilding.com forum that the two grip holes make the plate a little lopsided since the weight isn't consistent across the plate. What are your thoughts?
I am thinking of getting these. I first must find my power bar, but these are front runners for the points you made in the video. Seems like they are a close substitution for calibrated that are much easier to handle.
Great review, but I still love those old school ivankos. What do you think about those plates (old School) troy barbell ? Those are the only ones I have acces to.
Hey Brandon! I’ve been looking into weightlifting. I’ve choose my bar, rack and bench but not so much plates. I thinking about the rogue cast iron plates. I was wonder how many of each plate should I get. I’m 15 and haven’t touched a barbell in my life. I really want to do though. Thank you for the help
Truth be told if it's your first time weight lifting I wouldn't worry quite yet about getting 45lb plates as it will take you some time to get there. For your first few times you will really only use the bar with no weight. What routine and split will you be using?
@@deadlyrng 45s will be useful though. In pretty much every mayor lift you will start out with at least a 45 per side or will build up to a 45 rather quickly. I found the same thing in regards to the finish with regular machined plates but besides that I love em. I was gonna go with the 6 shooter plates but when I went to check out (black November sale) the hundo pricing for the 6 shooters wasn't available. But I'm still extremely happy with the plates. I'll have to weigh all mine and average them out and I can get you a comparison for accuracy. I got 8 pairs of 45s and 2 pairs of everything else so I'll have a slightly bigger sample size on the smaller plates.
Yeah if the choice wasn't made for me I would have ended up with the 6 shooter but I'm still happy with these. The change plates for both are the same so I'm happy I have a uniform look but I don't think it would have bugged me either way. But I'll take the time and weigh them and post up my results this way there's some comparison.
It's true that they don't make the Ivankos quite as good as they used to. I bought a set of OM Ivankos on dumbbell buddy just over a year ago. Made in china stickers and plenty of epoxy filler on the non milled side of the plates. 7 45s were within 4 ounces. One 45 was 13 ounces underweight according to my postal scale. Still within their stated 2% tolerance but a bit annoying since they were NOT cheap. On the plus side the diameter on all 45's is perfect and all holes are snug. (or were). So still very good but Rogue's version are likely more consistently accurate, and CHEAPER. The deep dish Troys, I heard were the best bang for your buck. Pretty accurate and cheaper than rogue.
My brother has a larger import business, with a lot of products coming from China. I'll tell you something about stuff that comes from the same factory in China. Now, keep in mind, this is not any direct statement on plates since I don't have direct knowledge on these specific companies or the specific factories in relation to plates, but the concepts hold true across many industries there. Typically, the factories will have different categories of quality. Certain customers will purchase the highest quality off the production line, and then those in turn become the more expensive products. Other companies will purchase the lower quality items off that same production line, but of course then you gave the lower quality items. So things that are within a certain spec may qualify as top end for the factory, and they sell it at a premium. They also sell the rejects, or things that are not within a certain spec, to other companies for lower prices. It can be near irrelevant to say that two different companies are using the same product from the same factory. A similar thing occurs in the pharmaceutical world in which I work. There are a few different suppliers of many common raw ingredient powders. The Rolls Royce of these companies sells for the highest price by far. But, they have the purest powders that then end in drug products. They also further conduct their own testing. The same laboratory that provides this supplier with a certain ingredient also supplies the other distributors with the same powder, but that may have slightly more impurities or a larger particle size. Those other distributors also do less of their own analytical testing, if any. The raw ingredients will be cheaper, but also more impure. This increases chances of a drug recall. This is all to say that if something is lie expensive at once company than another, yet they originate from the same source, at least part of the reason it's due to the quality off the production line. (Of course there's other factors like buying power, marketing, overhead, etc)
@@BasementBrandon kinda thinking about holding off and getting an Elieko set. Especially with current market trends driving up the cost of previously lower cost options. Eliekos.arw not much more than the Rogue calibrated plates.
+2/-0% (machined) is the same plate to plate tolerance as +/- 1% (6 shooter). With +2/-0% the 45s will never be under 45lbs. Both style 45s have a possible plate to plate difference of .9lbs.
@@BasementBrandon Understood. Could you please tell me how much rocking the 45 plates have on the bar. For example: if you place one 45 on each side of a bar without a collar on, how much can they lean/rock side to side. They have a 50.6MM collar opening vs the deep dish have a 50MM collar opening. The reason I am asking is because I am considering getting some 45s after seeing your review of them. Thanks in advance. ---Tom
The warehouse gym where I lift have two different locations One location has the regular black iron plates and the other location has the 6 shooter plates LOL Sometimes when I wanna feel old school when I lift, I go to the location with the black iron
Brandon Campbell Diamond ok. Just as a preface, I’m not trying to say that you’re _wasting_ your money (or even that I wouldn’t buy fancy plates if given infinite money). All I’m trying to say is that it’s a relatively simple job to where the nice to haves are really very optional. It’s hard to see a justification for twice the expense, given a reasonably priced plate (fitnessgear, some of rogue’s stuff, etc) does the job about as well as an expensive one. You’re not wrong about the accuracy, but *if* you weigh a plate *and* it’s off then it’s not difficult to fix it. I agree about fit on the bar. I’ve used Eleiko plates and that’s the first thing I noticed that was really nice about them, but as a power lifter without infinite expendable income I can’t justify 2 times the price for a few percent extra utility. I’m far from being a 275lb lifter, so even if I broke the WR deadlift in my weight class, I’m not going to need super thin plates. I don’t know what consistency means, and I didn’t know that longevity was a thing for plates. As long as they weigh the right amount and have a hole in the middle, they can last a really, _really_ long time
Been looking at the Ivanko Revolvers and compared them to the Rogue 6 shooters. The Ivanko Revolvers on Dumbbell Buddy (for the 700 lb set) go for $1,730 (which includes shipping). The Rogue 6 Shooters in the same lb breakdown (with shipping) are $1,605. Breakdown for both is: 45 lb-4 pr, 35 lb-2 pr, 25-2 pr, 10 lb-3 pr; 5 lb-3 pr; 2.5 lb-2 pr. Given the amount poundage wise, not that big a difference in price ($125). I guess Dumbbell Buddy has kind of a permanent hundo type pricing.
I hit on this in my machined plate video. Issue is no one wants a set with that many plates outside of 45s and maybe 2 pairs of 10s (unless you’re at a big gym). I’ve used dumbbellbuddy before and actually had them quote out what I ended up getting, 6 pairs of 45s, and Rogue was about $500 cheaper IIRC.
Do these have sharp edges when you carry them? Do they dig into your hands after holding them for a while? Looking for plates that can also be good for weight plate exercises.
Well to me you pay extra money for the Rogue brand and those weights should be perfect. Non matching finishes would really burn me if I shelled out that kind of money.
Thanks for the reply. I have not made up my mind yet between an all purpose bar such as an Echo bar or a power bar. Ideally would like 28.5 bar with a not too aggressive knurl and a lighter center knurl. But most of the all purpose bars don't have center knurls. So I am undecided.
thanks. It will probably be these or the Rouge or someone else's "deep dish" plate. I do like the look of these, but also like the "old school iron" look of deep dish plates.
Hmmm you said average, I wanna see the exact value for each plate. Lol I wanna see if there was maybe one or two plates over the stated weight and another set that are below the stated weight, and just averages out to 2%? 🤣 Ivankos advertise their change plates to be within 2%. The smaller change plates are harder to accurize. 2% of 45lb is almost a whole pound. While the smaller ones are smaller decimals O.o The only change plates that has those holes are Ivankos OUEZ plates where the 10lb and 5lb have those holes. Buut then, they're black and rubber so I guess they don't REALLY match lol Also I was multi-tasking.. Did you ever mention in the video of the hole tolerances? The slop from cheap plates make them wiggle on the bar like crazy. Ivanko/York plates are known to have super tight tolerances which makes them quieter when setting the bar down and keeps the plates tight on the bar with less work for the collars to do their job. If that makes sense. Cool plates though, I'd buy them over the Ivankos. Lol helluvalot cheaper
I imagine the hole tolerance is similar, if not the same, to the machined plates. I have the machined plates and I notice a huge difference in how they sit on the bar in comparison to your average "barbell standard" plates. They are tight enough that they do not wobble and lean much at all and they will stay put with a tight pair of collars.
@@rebeccasireneimi4551 Hopefully, I mean.. It's not an end all be all thing for me, but I believe hole tolerances and accurate change plates are most likely the hardest things to get right when manufacturing. And I'm guessing those "imperfections" are most likely just grinding down the plates in order to accurize them within the weight tolerance? Who knows.. I'm probably not even using the right word.. Accurize? Lol
I been lifting for 2 months I'm 15 and my 1rm for deadlift is 450 lbs. Please be serious I'm not bullshitting is it good for my age and I also weigh 195 lbs

I would be lost in countless searches for gym equipment without this channel.
So I can only speak from my own experience but I have no rough edges on mine. There are a few slight markings on mine but I can also see some on his equalizers in the video (both are still cast iron and then machined).
I was up at 3:30 am about to pull a trigger on about $1000 on calibrated weights. Probably not the best time to make a choice that big. I have cheap plates now so I’ve been questioning my max lifts. Knee sleeves are nice for support. It helps keep the joint warm which helps with inflammation or so they say. Plus it gives a little bit of spring out of the hole.
I still flip flop on which ones I should have gotten. I see people using the machined Olympic ones and always think they look sharp.
Yeah if the choice wasn't made for me I would have ended up with the 6 shooter but I'm still happy with these. The change plates for both are the same so I'm happy I have a uniform look but I don't think it would have bugged me either way. But I'll take the time and weigh them and post up my results this way there's some comparison.
personally I can't stand the looks of the 6 shooters... not attractive to me at all
Interesting, I think you're in the minority!
@@BasementBrandon it looks like it lol
VMuscle I don’t like them either
I've honestly never thought about the aesthetics of my weights. As long as they are some shitty hexed plate.
Same they’re super ugly imo
Wished they came in black. I like the round holes better than Reps equalizers.
Agreed
I'm in Africa, can you review different car tyre plates?
Look for big axels
Sadly they are not available in Europe...
You all have access to some interesting stuff that we don’t as well, like the zinc plated discs from StrengthShop.
With the prices on their EU site, does it really even matter? 😅
Rogue Europe is really more expensive 😞. The adjustable bench costs 800 euro 😳😂
Brandon Campbell Diamond rogue Europe is very very expensive, I think the less expensive full rack cost more than 1000€
Same with Australia
I had the revolvers quoted out through DBbuddy as well, but was a few hundred more so went Rogue!
Hello Brandon good info....can you please review the best fixed dumbbells like ivanko and others...
If I get my hands on some to compare!
Any thoughts on the Strong Arm calibrated plates? Since most of the time these come from the same plants in China why pay a premium for a name.
Wild Bill they’re very good. Literal clones of Rogue minus the IPF approval. Price has gone up so not as good of a deal as before.
Uhhh, a few typos from typing on my goddamn autocorrecting phone, whoops
SoullessPolack interesting feedback, makes sense. thanks for sharing!
I look at it as one plate will only be off a max of .5lbs vs almost a full pound.
---Tom
@@tparimore shooters will def have more play than the deep dish, but I wouldn't say they're loose.
Great tip on the shipping charges. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
I getting either these or Rep Fitness equalizer plates. Whichever comes back into stock first!😂
Good choice!
Hey Brandon have you seen the new Rogue Deep Dish plates?
I have, they look great. I just worry they're bordering on too wide at 2"+ for a 45.
Nice clear review with good points... respect
appreciate it.
The warehouse gym where I lift have two different locations
One location has the regular black iron plates and the other location has the 6 shooter plates LOL
Sometimes when I wanna feel old school when I lift, I go to the location with the black iron
Haha nice to have options!
I don’t get the rationale behind spending almost two dollars per pound.
More accurate, fit on bar better, thinner, consistency, longevity.
Everything is atleast $2 to $3 per pound now lol.
Ab Panda yeah man 😂 demand increased like crazy when corona bans started to hit
As long as they weigh the right amount and have a hole in the middle, they can last a really, _really_ long time
After having these for a while and assuming the person you are talking to doesn't NEED bumpers, is this your overall best recommendation for plates?
I wouldn't say that. lot of great options out there.
Watching all these videos figuring out what I should buy... If ANYONE had anything in stock
Ha you and me both!
Thanks, Brandon. What was the biggest discrepancy on one of your 45s?
honestly out of the 5-6 I weighed, .2lbs.
Brandon Campbell Diamond Awesome, thanks.
Just picked up some of the machined deep dish from rogue!
awesome choice.
How do you like them? I haven’t been able to find much online about them. I’m a fan of the deep dish, please share with me your thoughts and opinions.
Do these have sharp edges when you carry them? Do they dig into your hands after holding them for a while? Looking for plates that can also be good for weight plate exercises.
nope, rounded. Very comfortable IMO
I have the rogue urethane 6 shooters and really like them.
Nice!!
When ordering for change plates - two sets of 10's, or one set? Two sets, right? (assuming all other change plates are a set)
correct!
Well to me you pay extra money for the Rogue brand and those weights should be perfect. Non matching finishes would really burn me if I shelled out that kind of money.
Even on higher end plates (Ivanko calibrated) there were some finish issues. But overall these are fantastic and it's only a small inconvenience!
Which would you recommend the rep equalizer or this one your speaking of now for my home gym?
Six shooters, more accurate and cheaper.
I am looking at these for February buy. How tight do they fit on the bar? (and, given the number of bars you have, which bars fit them best?)
Any power bar, they fit pretty tight and don't move around at all
Thanks for the reply.
I have not made up my mind yet between an all purpose bar such as an Echo bar or a power bar. Ideally would like 28.5 bar with a not too aggressive knurl and a lighter center knurl. But most of the all purpose bars don't have center knurls. So I am undecided.
Most olympic pars should be 2" standard (50mm). These plates have a 50.6mm tolerance, so great fit!
thanks. It will probably be these or the Rouge or someone else's "deep dish" plate. I do like the look of these, but also like the "old school iron" look of deep dish plates.
7:20 how can they be machined and cast? Surely you either cast the whole thing or machine it out of one piece??
Cast the big piece than machine the holes/finishes for accuracy.
shame we dont get these in europe
You guys get the short end of the stick.
how did they hold up with the garage humidity last year?
Perfect!
Wish I could of ordered these earlier!! They are sold out 🥲
They were in stock last week! Only for a few hours though!
Thank you for the tips
No problem
Stroller in foreground. #DadsUnite
Haha can't wait to move into the new place and get rid of the "clutter" in here.
How snug is the six shooters in comparison to strength co?
Not as snug, but still better than just cast plates.
Hmmm you said average, I wanna see the exact value for each plate. Lol I wanna see if there was maybe one or two plates over the stated weight and another set that are below the stated weight, and just averages out to 2%? 🤣
Ivankos advertise their change plates to be within 2%. The smaller change plates are harder to accurize. 2% of 45lb is almost a whole pound. While the smaller ones are smaller decimals O.o
The only change plates that has those holes are Ivankos OUEZ plates where the 10lb and 5lb have those holes. Buut then, they're black and rubber so I guess they don't REALLY match lol
Also I was multi-tasking..
@@rebeccasireneimi4551
Hopefully, I mean..
Accurize? Lol
I don't recall what they were, but all were extremely close. I've actdually seen some new Ivankos exceed tolerences.
@@BasementBrandon I believe it
I been lifting for 2 months I'm 15 and my 1rm for deadlift is 450 lbs. Please be serious I'm not bullshitting is it good for my age and I also weigh 195 lbs
Tough to say, just about progressing!
did you consider the urethane shooter plates?
Not a big fan of how urethane potentially holds up over time (cracking) or the price!
They are cleaaan
agreed!
What about the 6 shooter urethane? Any thoughts on wear, noise, etc?
Tough to say, a lot of the urethane coated plates from several years back don't seem to holdup well.
What about the rep fitness equalizer plates?
They're decent from what I've heard, minus the tolerance being 2% and I'm not a fan of the hexagons
@@BasementBrandon that's fair, waiting on a home gym package to be shipped from rep and I decided to splurge a bit. Rep is definitely on the come up

Td Gym (ruclips.net/video/KRXvBy_29Fk/видео.html) made a comparison between Six Shooters and Repfitness Equalizer plate. He made the comment about the Six Shooters not being as smooth of a finish as Rep's plates. What are your thoughts on that?
I can't thank you enough for this content! You and Coop are the best!
I’ll wait for the six shooters. You’ve definitely convinced me! Shame they aren’t all uniform looking though. Meh

Keep it up!
Thanks man!
how accurate are these plates in weight
within 1%.
Why do you wear knee sleeves? 9:09
Knee sleeves are nice for support. It helps keep the joint warm which helps with inflammation or so they say. Plus it gives a little bit of spring out of the hole. When pushing heavy weight (in his case 400 lbs plus) every bit helps. I know he uses Stoic sleeves. I have the Mark Bell Extreme X Sleeves. I like them but they are very size specific. Don't try to size down you probably won't be able to get them on. Are they needed? Not really but as you get older pre-hab is almost as important as post workout things.
@@bmstylee I work in an Extremely Large Online Retailer's fulfillment center, picking orders, and wear knee sleeves because they make the constant bending (probably >100 times per shift) much easier.
Knee warmth/support

b/c loading 25s and 10s is sacrilege.
And loading a 35 looks better than loading a 25 and 10
Are these plates taller in height than standard 45s?
Nope, standard height.
Good video but you really gotta do more than one take to account for errors
Only made one verbal slip up in an almost 10 min video, would rather just do it off the cuff vs annoying jump cuts/takes.
who cares about the color? I never been to a gym and seen a person trying to match color and weight.... dings are part of using the plates. no dings means no one ever used them....
So if you bought a new car you’d be fine if things were different colors or it had dings in it already?
@@BasementBrandon a car is different. its all one piece. I understand what you are saying. if you are paying for a product you want consistancy. its just that the color of the plates will not affect its use. with that being said... it is nice to have the set matching.
