Hi Kalyn! I love the idea of using the four different systems. I'm a late bloomer to the planner/journal idea. I started a bullet journal in 2020 in a small notebook. I then bought a Leuchtturn 1917 and started it but just got over trying to be creative. I'm not very artistic or creative. Just as I decided to try the disc journal, you changed to something else, LOL! Anyway, I have decided to actually put together, and use the disc journal for 2024. I really like the looks of the H&O planner, though. I have tried a few times now to download the Find Your Match guide, but I still haven't received it.
I am sorry that you’re having trouble with the Find Your Match guide! It should come to you in an email after you subscribe- could it have made it into a spam or junk folder? If it’s not going there, please do feel free to send an email and we will be sure you get it. I hope your planner in 2024 works exactly how you want it to!
I have gone back and forth between digital apps and planners, but finally in 2023 settled back into my bullet journal with my hybrid digital notebook taking app and Google calendar - because I saw a video with Ryder Carrol (the bullet journal’s creator) explaining how he uses a hybrid digital and bullet journal system - and it finally just clicked for me. I “journal” in my daily logs, and I’ve realised the importance of reviewing at the end of each month from my daily pages - what I’ve watched, read, followed, thought, felt, achieved, overcame - so when I review my year, those are the pages I draw data from. For your new pre-planned journal, you don’t have the freedom to do this; however you could achieve the same by just going back at the end of each month and fill in any blanks. We never set aside enough time to review our week or our month and just revisit ourselves… to make it easier to go back and revisit ourselves over time. We eventually get better at adding more and better information into our journals, for easier recall - it’s a muscle that needs to be developed; yet we also at the same time need to simplify how we do it - get better at rapid note taking - because if it’s too hard or too much work we simply drop off. I also have a seperate notebook for knowledge/study - same as you😊. I’ve been using Craft Docs, the Apple version of Notion, but interested in possibly a return to Notion - I’ll look at your Notion videos😊. And Google Calendar is my bible😂 - if it’s not in my calendar, it doesn’t exist😂. New subscriber.
I also go back and forth, including Notion, but while I know the importance the monthly (weekly, to be honest) reviews, it’s a habit I’ve struggled to maintain.i also want to love the Leuchturrm, but the paper is just a bit too thin for the pens I use (I’m starting to sound like the princess &the pea…”the Prince and the Planner”). That Hemlock & Oak is gorgeous - I switched mid-year to a B5 Archer & Olive that has been feeling spacious, sturdy, and welcoming.
I have been using Hemlock & Oak religiously since 2022 and, let me assure you, you will not regret it. Not only are the designs gorgeous, but everything is made sustainably and the customer care team always go the extra mile to make you feel valued. It's like a luxury brand but with warmth, if that makes sense. Everything about their products shows you just how much thought and care went into making it - it all gets a personal touch. I just cannot say enough good things about them as a company (and, no, I'm not a brand ambassador). I've used the undated weekly planner, the lined notebook, and for 2024 I am using the Minimalist Weekly planner but I am giving serious consideration to trying the daily planner to use alongside it. I am excited to see how you put it to use (it might sway me one way or the other 😅). All the best in 2024!
I'm so excited to read your positive review! You highlighted some of the reasons I was excited to try them and I can't wait to see how this year with my new planner goes.
I used to only use an analog system (e.g. paper lists, planners, etc.), but this year I've decided to try using Apple Calendar and Reminders for lists. It took some time to get used to it, but now I find it so convenient because my planner is always with me. I still use a paper notebook for journaling though. The main reason I switched was because it seemed wasteful to me to keep buying planners year after year just to throw them away, whereas I don't throw away my journals.
This was so fun to watch, Kalyn! I always love crawling inside your brain and hearing how you think through your process and develop a system that works for you RIGHT now. The fact that you plan for long term but don’t stress if you need to change it up seems super healthy to me-I aspire to be more like you in this way! Also, your video editor is rocking it. 😉 Loved the hearts moment! 💕
Thanks for tuning in, Lauren! It's so much fun to talk about our planning tools, whether we use them all year long or switch things up a few months in! I have LOVED Joseph taking over my video editing. He is definitely more skilled than I!
I do my daily planning/journaling in a cheap school notebook and it works just fine. I can organize it how i like it and is lightweight enough to bring it everywhere. It gets me through 3 months and than I get another one
I’m using a combo of Notion, iCal, Notes and Reminders for digital and I have a Hobonichi Cousin for daily planning and journaling, a Traveler’s Notebook in passport size for every day carry and a Leuchtturm 1917 in A5 size for note taking. A lot of things get duplicated between the digital and analog worlds, but after my heart attack in 2021 I need both to actually remember things. It really helps keep things organized. :)
Having reminders set up in a way that works *for* us is so helpful. It sounds like you've created a really great system for what you need! I love hearing what works for each of us! SO fun.
Have you made an updated video with how these 4 are working together? I couldn’t find an update and am thinking of using this system so would love to hear how it’s going after 4 months now. Thank you for all the info! I love that I just found your channel tonight I’m watching EVERYTHING! ❤
Im using a hemlock and oak undated weekly and undated daily as my 2 main planners thisbyear. I love love love h&o. I tell EVERTONE about them ans how great they are. They customer service sucks as they listen to trolls rather than the people that are positively promoteing thier products and have gotten atleast 20 sales from me but thier planners are AMAZING and i already have mine for 2025.
FYI - digital has everything paper does except the bulkiness. I know it isn’t for everyone, but don’t discard the digital idea because you want to hand write almost everything. I take all my notes, make my lists, plan my life digitally and most of it is handwritten except my calendar. I scribble off notes for classes, sermons, ideas, etc. in 1 app. Then, I transfer them to the appropriate permanent app by handwriting them and decorating with digital stickers, washi tapes, etc. I can make them interactive by including hyperlinks (easy peasy in most apps). So if all paper or even a hybrid system isn’t working, consider trying digital.
Loved this perspective! I think that it’s very true that you can do more and more of the creative side with digital than ever before which for some of us is a good push to let go of paper products over time. Thank you for sharing. :)
@@KalynBrookeCo , I love that there is room for every style and taste. People just need to find what works for them, like you did. And not be afraid to change if it turns out to not work.
I’m the same. I use Good notes and digital notebooks and planners and Notion and a Passion Planner to reverse plan when I feel like it. But my primary is In Goodnotes. Management and second brain in Notion. Love all this diversity 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
I use plain notepaper in a 3 inch binder, and one page every day, for my daily to do list. Very inexpensive and it stays flat. I use a big lined journal for my commonplace book. I use to doist, apple reminders, apple notes, fantastical calendar. But still need a way to track and manager tasks better. I went through bulllet journals and many planners before I came to this easy way to organize my life.
I'm loving hearing all the ways we've each found that works for us! Notion is my go-to for task management, but I think I'll always use some form of paper as well. Thanks for stopping by!
You could use your Erin C planner as a gratitude journal/bullet journal (I gratitude in bullets). I did that with a previous planner and it worked out REALLY well for me.. Just a thought. :)
I just found you and I have been watching your older videos and I am new to notion, I find it overwhelming and I want to buy all the second brain templates out there, but I read that its better to build your own. I am going to get your beginner video first to see if I can figure it out myself before buying and expensive template. Most of the content creators out there teaching tutorials talk and go so fast I can't follow but you speak clearly and at a good pace and show what you are doing so thank you for that.
I'm so glad that you've found my videos helpful! Notion does have a bit of a learning curve. I'll be releasing a video soon with some of my "do's and don'ts" for new Notion users. I also do have a course that you can watch at your own pace that gives a good base for beginning, with a community to ask question and get help in, if you're interested! kbcreativeshop.com/products/notion-anatomy-beginner-building-blocks
I decided to stop buying planners this year. I have a big monthly calendar on the wall for my family, but everything is on my phone. I use the apple calendar since it’s always with me and shows my next event on the locked screen and my watch. On Sunday I make sure my phone calendar and wall calendar match so I don’t miss anything. For my brain/to do list I use the reminders app. I like setting the day and times I want tasks to repeat and then not having to remember them anymore or rewrite the info over and over again. For my meal planning and grocery shopping list I use the MealBoard app. Oh, and the notes app. I use that daily too.
I think it’s so interesting to hear what works for everyone and our unique lifestyles. This sounds like a great, visual way to keep everyone on the same page with how the week is looking.
I can so relate to this! I’m still searching for the right digital tool that will help me stay on track with content creation. I would love to see a dedicated video about how you do that in Notion and with your paper planner. I’m using Google calendar and a Hobonichi Cousin right now… but I know I could be so much more organized and consistent with content if I had a better system.
TFS 👍🏽 I love hearing what people use for planning. I use the Michael Hyatt Full Focus system for everything except money/finances. I use Alaina Fingal’s/The Organized Money Budget Planning for all things money. I use a plain spiral notebook for dumping thoughts and creating to-dos. 🙂
Your channel popped up, lack of better word to describe the algorithms anyway been searching for a planner. I like your video, clear you tube voice. Easy to follow. And got an aha moment. Yes a combination digital and paper. Hmmm. But… I actually liked your 2023 inserting pages. Anyway I believe the key to all this might be reflecting. Cheers new subscriber from Vancouver Island Canada.
Welcome to the channel! Glad you’re here. :) And thank you for your kind words! Best of wishes to you as you work out your digital and paper combo! It has been just the right thing for me, and I’m looking forward to hearing how it works out for you!
Great video!! I have been hybrid planning and journaling for three years now. I use my iPad for my digital planning through the GoodNotes app. I am completely digital for planning out my days and all of my budgeting and finances. And I am mostly analog for my journaling (daily journaling, commonplace and goal setting). Every now and then I do digital journaling in my GoodNotes journals. I have a digital film/tv journal and a digital reading journal for tracking and writing reviews. I also use my phone calendar to keep track of any appointments and meetings.
Thank you for sharing! It’s so interesting to hear what solutions everyone has found that work for them. Do you design your own layouts in GoodNotes or are there some premade ones you like for reading tracking?
OMG I have been following your other channel all this time for RV stuff and just now realize you are a planner girl as well. I knew I liked you for a reason. Hope to meet up with you guys some time when we make it out west in our MH.
I really like how you have everything set up. I prefer 8.5 x 11 on paper to keep everything the same size. Smaller planners get lost all the time as they are too small. Having a planner online is nice but is cumbersome.
Thank you for stopping by! I love hearing what works for everyone. I agree that small planners can be an issue with space for everything/misplacing sometimes!
I tried Asana years ago and we didn't mesh, but I hear SO many good things about it now! It's really so eye-opening to me how many of us dip our toes in both digital and paper planning tools. 🙌
Hi! Thanks for the video!!!!! I also use both paper jornals and digitals. My system is very similar to yours, so it was cool to see a video about someone also using everything in their work and personal life
I look forward to hearing how this works for you. I’m using google calendar and tasks and weekly dashboard happy planner. I’ve added a notes section to the back of my HP. We’ll see. I definitely didn’t have planner peace last year in HP big vertical!
I will definitely share how it goes! I hope your new HP layout is a better fit- it can take some trial and error finding the one that best suits for sure.
Kalyn, I've followed you for years through your different planners, etc. My question is about your bullet journal for learning. Do you have anything showing how you use/are planning to use that? I read a TON, mostly non-fiction and learn so much, but my thoughts/notes are scattered all over the place. I would love to have an idea how you plan to organize this.
This is my first year trying out a digital writing planner. I too love paper and also use notion ( I teach multiple classes) I find that my paper planning was getting out of hand and so I hope using my Samsung 8 with stylus will solve the whole organization issue I have with notes. I still plan to use paper for gratitude and personal journaling ( like working through type stuff)
I would prefer to use paper to journal and work through things but I need to be honest here: I’ve switched to digital because on the off chance I die suddenly I don’t want people to read them. I’m having a hard time being a step parent and there are things in there people would judge me for
Another great video! I so behind on all your videos and tutorials. I am hoping to spend the week between Christmas and New Years working on plans for 2024. Thanks to you, I will be combining Notion, Google Calendar, and your Brainbook Library printables!
I can’t wait to see how this works for you. I have not decided yet. I seem to fall off the paper planning wagon a lot so I hate to invest the money. I definitely need something where I can write in my own dates. Is Notion similar to ClickUp?
They are kind of similar? I don't have personal experience with ClickUp, but from what I've gathered watching friends and colleagues use it, ClickUp is great for out-of-the-box project management and collaboration with others. But they don't (I think) have page building and database features and it is not as customizable as Notion. You still have a couple weeks to figure out your system! Robust paper planners are so expensive these days, so I don't blame you!
Love this system! You’ve inspired me! I’ve been struggling how to use digital and paper and I am going to have to think of something similar to this can work for me!
Loved this video Kalyn! Excited to see you use these tools in 2024. How beautiful are the Hemlock & Oak? Amazing quality planners & so beautifully set out. I am going with a Leuchtturm1917 bullet journal for 2024. I also back up my bullet journal in GoodNotes so my Bujo is searchable. I do this because my handwriting is pretty illegible. This will be used in conjunction with iCal so nothing important gets missed. I am feeling overwhelmed by my Notion workspace so have taken a step back from that in order to come back to it with fresh eyes and work out what I actually want to keep in there. Have a great day and a fantastic 2024!
I honestly find this to work best for me. I like to know *everything* I need to do at a glance, instead of flipping back and forth between two notebooks and hoping I don’t miss something important. Of corse, it really is a personal preference and may be something that wouldn’t work for every business/personal combo. But I think using color coding, two columns or some other way to quickly pick out business related tasks versus personal makes one notebook for both very feasible and practical for many scenarios!
It’s because you arent able to write faster than you can process with pen and paper, which is more of an error of the user which in fairness would take a lot of conscious effort to correct. Especially if your wpm is high.
I have not set up 2024 other than work. I may turn my disc planner into a bullet journal. You have spoiled me with your pages, but I like to add my “swirls”.
You still have a little bit of time! I do often think that a discbound planner makes the perfect bullet journal. You can rearrange pages as opposed to keeping them in the order they come inside a bound notebook.
Thanks for sharing your system! I look forward to hearing how it goes! Question: Do you need to get the paid version of Notion, or does the free version have enough features to make it worthwhile?
The free version is plenty for personal use! Notion finally removed their block limits so you have unlimited options to build out each page. The only drawback with the free version depends on how many files you want to upload. You have a limit of 5GB which you use up fast if you're trying to go paperless and upload documents inside Notion. But other than that, you have plenty to work with!
I do have a Learning Library in Notion, although I haven't shared it yet because I'm not 100% convinced that I love the setup. Zettlekastens confuse me. 🤪
My daily is what I WANT to do. But I use my Master Task List to help me know what I need to do that day, then I sprinkle in a few other things that came up but didn’t make it into Notion.
@@KalynBrookeCo awesome I have a hemlock and oak I got the disc bound weekly I love the engineering vibe and am for now using a discbound blank piece of paper for daily - but my goal this year is to journal more - I just followed you on IG ( I am travers ) over there - I’m so glad I found you

Hi Ariel! Welcome to "this side" of my life. haha! Would love to see if we can meet up if our schedules and paths align! :)
The struggle is real - I liked and subscribed!
Thanks so much for watching!
I love Leuchtturm notebooks. Thank you! :) and happy holidays!
Happy holidays to you and yours as well!
@@KalynBrookeCo thank you 😊
Great video. It’s a paper planner + asana for me
I tried Asana years ago and we didn't mesh, but I hear SO many good things about it now! It's really so eye-opening to me how many of us dip our toes in both digital and paper planning tools. 🙌
Hi! Thanks for the video!!!!! I also use both paper jornals and digitals. My system is very similar to yours, so it was cool to see a video about someone also using everything in their work and personal life
Hi! Thank you for stopping by! So fun that our systems are similar. :) :)
I am actually planning to share how this works for me after I have a few months under my belt to show you all how it is working!
@@KalynBrookeCo Looking forward to it!
I’m having a hard time being a step parent and there are things in there people would judge me for
Awesome to hear how you use Notion and Digital planning! Thank you for stopping in and sharing. :)
Another great video! I so behind on all your videos and tutorials. I am hoping to spend the week between Christmas and New Years working on plans for 2024. Thanks to you, I will be combining Notion, Google Calendar, and your Brainbook Library printables!
Thank you, Pat! I’ll be anxious to hear how that combo works for you throughout the year. It sounds like a good fit!!
I’m glad to have offered some inspiration and can’t wait to hear what you settle on!
Wow, your system sounds great, too! Happy Holidays to you!
Hi! What are your thoughts on combining work and personal into one notebook for tasks? Thanks!
That is true! Typing is much easier to keep up with thought flow than handwriting.
Have you played around with e-ink tablets like the remarkable or the supernote?
I haven’t, but they do look pretty cool! I’m definitely eyeing the Remarkable one. 😍
Love your pink disc bound notebook. Where can I find one?
It's from Levenger! Their company is a little spendy, but this notebook has held up really well for three years. kalynbrooke.com/refer/levenger
Wow! That is one huge daily! 😂 do they offer a 6 month version? Love that layout though!
I know, right?! They do offer a six-month version, but it only comes in the undated design.
@KalynBrookeCo bummer! Such a pretty book... I understand why you dove in!
Thanks for sharing- I wanted to ask you if you have tried building a second brain/zettlekasten for your learning?
I do have a Learning Library in Notion, although I haven't shared it yet because I'm not 100% convinced that I love the setup. Zettlekastens confuse me. 🤪
Me too - that is why I asked you haha :)@@KalynBrookeCo
Loved what info I could watch... but the constantly changing focal points had me seasick. Had to click out about 1/3 of the way through
Thanks for the feedback!
I agree.
So your daily is not what you want to do but more of “what you did do”?
My daily is what I WANT to do. But I use my Master Task List to help me know what I need to do that day, then I sprinkle in a few other things that came up but didn’t make it into Notion.
@@KalynBrookeCo awesome I have a hemlock and oak I got the disc bound weekly I love the engineering vibe and am for now using a discbound blank piece of paper for daily - but my goal this year is to journal more - I just followed you on IG ( I am travers ) over there - I’m so glad I found you
Doesn't seem very manly or gentleman friendly. But I think I can tweak it a bit. 😅 I'll watch some other videos.
Which part are you referring to?
Good video, but once again why do RUclipsrs zoom in to their face so close.
Narcissistic or what...
It’s called keeping people engaged because their attention spans are so teeny tiny.😄
And why are some comments so unnecessarily rude. Move on.
