The Boox is perfect for my flights and travel. The kindle is perfect for nighttime reading. Physical books are just perfect.

I’ve been using the kindle platform for years … but find myself using it less and less, and just reading off my phone. The Palma is really intriguing! It might be a solid alternative for me to use… my phone is so dang distracting.

I avoid Amazon as much as I can out of principle because they screwed over the authors and libraries, not to mention deleting already-purchased books. I have a Kobo and honestly i'm happy with NOT having ads on my homepage even if I have to use Calibre on my laptop to move over some of my books.

So grateful more companies are coming out with eReaders for this very reason! Diversifying the marketplace gives consumers options and forces companies to operate with integrity. Hopefully this starts to become more of a reality in the literary world. Also, I would LOVE to try out the Kobo. I've heard great things and their color ereader looks awesome.

One handed reading is a major selling point for an e-reader. I bought my Palma because I can hold it in one hand, like a phone (or maybe an iPod Touch is a better comparison) and turn pages with my finger or thumb, all while giving my cat scritches. Any device which lets you pet your furry friends while reading is good.
I'm also a Boox user because I can use Libby directly on the device, as well as other productivity apps that I like to use. I turn off notifications on the Palma so I don't have distractions.

Boox is very attractive for someone like me who reads a lot of...fanfiction. It's a bit of a pain to do that on my kindle. It's possible, but takes longer

    Excellent review.
I enjoy audio books as well as podcasts, music... and wondering how good the bluetooth audio quality of the Boox Palma is.
I'm surprised that Amazon hasn't produced something the same size as the Boox Palma 2 using Amazon's forked version of android. Especially as Amazon own not just Kindle but also Audible and it would have access to the Amazon store.

If you have a book ecosystem outside of Amazon, then it would be more ideal for the Palma or now Palma 2. I have mine with an expansion MicroSD card that has an additional 1TB, so total space is 1128GB. More than probably all phones, and definitely all other ebook readers out there on the market! And yet it just fits in your pocket! Can you watch movies on it? Yes, but you'd be better using the google cast feature to cast the signal to another device with a color screen. Otherwise, youc an also consider it a storage device on the go since you can transfer data from it to another device. So if you were wanting to share your PDF, MP3, epub, mobi, MKV, MP4, audiobook, photos, etc with someone else, you just connect both to the same wifi service, and then enable BOOXDrop, which hosts a service on the Palma to allow users to connect and send/receive files to/from it.

I’d be interested in the Boox if it was bigger. I don’t like how small it is. I might as well just use my phone for on the go reading. And I do. But I don’t love how often I have to turn the page on a small device so I use my paperwhite for longer reading sessions. The flexibility does sound cool. I use specific scripture reading apps and I ALWAYS wish they would work on my paperwhite so I could enjoy the nice e ink screen. But they don’t and it stinks. Sounds like they would on the Palma.

I agree with so much of this!! and yes, I have a bible app on my palma and it is nice for that. Especially for travel since I don't like bringing my Bible with me for fear of losing it (it's happened to me before haha). So it's great for that!

Well, Boox offers many different sizes, from the Palma via the Boox Go 6 and several 10" devices to the new 13.x" Note Max. Some of them (the bigger ones) are note-taking devices, far more sophisticated than the Kindle Scribe. About 4 years ago I bought a 7.8" Nova Air which has completely replaced my Kindle, as that size works best for me for every day reading. If the Palma had a pen for handwritten notes, I would be sold on that, though.

My vote goes to the kindle. i have the kindle app as well as Goodreads, Libby (and if i wanted but don't, Tiktok) and numerous other apps installed on my Iphone, If portability and multi-tasking were important to me, i could resort to reading on my phone. No need to spend so much to get a Boox for those things.
