No doubt, Alan. We've also kayak camped it, pitching our tents along the upper lake. Food was hung about a quarter mile away, for this is grizzly country..
I've never been to Yosemite, but if I had, I would imagine it is something like this place! Stef and I rode our dirt bikes the last 19 miles, wow! Thanks Marc!
We're heading from Phoenix to Salt Lake to meet friends, load up the rv, and head to the wind River mountains on Saturday! Your videos have been super helpful, thank you!

@@GrandAdventure I've used your dispersed site there many times, its a nice one. I dont care how well your RV is built, something is bound to shake loose! We usually tackle one big climb there every summer. I'd share some pics with you Marc, if I could.
My family camped here many times in the 50’s & 60’s… fished and even water skied on lower GRLakes…great to see that area again…fished clear creek also above the lake. I had to go back to this video and see what I could see with Goggle Earth and USGS. It looked like you were in the best spot for boon-docking! I thought that you might have been on BLM, but realized you were on National Forest land. Prior to you first discovering this spot, did you go onto MVUM site and order map or contact National Forest Service or did you just stop in at the nearby ranger station and get the local rules for boon-docking in this Forest? Am I right that the rules vary between each National Forest? I saw that our nearby Mendocino National Forest only shows three specific areas for “dispersed” camping.
@@laughingram7287 the rules even vary from road to road within the same National Forest, as you've seen in Mendocino NF. We consulted the MVUM before traveling there and knew that boondocking was legal along that road. We had nevertheless intended to stay in the campground to be closer to the lake, but gave up on that plan when we spotted that site.
Another reason we love your channel. You have the guts to go where most of us wouldn’t dare. You find the most beautiful places, and then bring it to us in wonderful and informative videos. Another video well done. Another epic boondocking location. 👌🏾
Just found you. And this is a great video. I have camped in Wyoming Southwest of Sarotga Wyoming up in the mountains but did not know this spot existed. Look forward to trying it out.Your videos are great.

Sooo beautiful! Yes it would be worth the drive back in. Appreciate your had work so we can see these beautiful places we can't get to in person. Best Wishes!
We just returned from a Grand Adventure at Green River Lakes, boondooking near where your camp was. Thanks so much for your video, it was our trail guide to this place, and it was even more beautiful in person! After 6 days, we had to leave due to river flooding from rains and sudden snow melt, but we had an amazing time!
So happy that you got to enjoy that amazing place! It's one of our favorites ever, and we're thrilled that we could help get you there. Our friends Arnie and Kay from home in Utah just got back from there, too -- your trips likely overlapped.
LOL! Indulge me for a moment with a story. My parents were very much indoor people -- my father's idea of getting out into the great outdoors was mowing the front yard. My beloved grandfather, however, was an avid outdoorsman who was part owner of a hunting and fishing camp with Native guides in the wilds of far northern Quebec. Back in the Depression he went to Canada to cut lake ice for ice boxes. You get the idea. He was tough as nails. Anyway, when I was a kid back in the 1970s he spent countless hours teaching me fly fishing -- not only how to fish, but also how to tie flies, how to prepare both wet and dry lines, etc. He had two daughters, and then two granddaughters...but I was the first (and last) to have a Y chromosome, and he wanted me to know. (Although in all honesty my Aunt Joan was more of a outdoor man than I became.) Sad to say, through disuse I've forgotten all of it. Pretty much all I now know how to do is lose lures with a spinning kit. However, I'm thrilled that my employer has scheduled a full day of guided fly fishing for a "team building" event at the end of the month. Hopefully it will spark some of my memory.
@@GrandAdventure Some of my best days and worst days was fly fishing. Stalking browns on a backpacking trip with my brother. I healed some, after my father's passing, out on the water zoning out watching a dry fly. Hope you find the rhythm of the cast on your outing. Thanks for the story.
@@GrandAdventure Okay, that was a year ago...did the team building exercise rekindle your interest in fly fishing? For those of us who are fly fishing enthusiasts, adding that pursuit to your future videos would be an added bonus. Or maybe you could even do a second channel devoted to fly fishing.
@@DrJohn493 it did rekindle it, although I still feel like I walked away not knowing what I'm doing. I was the only one to catch a fish that day! One thing that kept me from fishing at all this summer, fly fishing or spinning tackle, was that we were in something like 13 different states. it would be so much easier for the casual angler like myself if there was something like a nationwide fishing license.
Great spot! Thanks! I boondocked about 3 miles down from the lower lake. Campground crowded on weekends end of August 2020. But emptied out during the week. 👍
We've heard that campground's been a but busier this summer, as several friends have headed up there to boondock this season. Glad that you had a good trip Mark!
Wow Marc.....this is an incredible location! Thank you for sharing it! I am fairly well traveled on the other side of this range; mainly by Cody and Riverton. I need to get back up there and check out this side of the range!! I hope you stopped for some ice cream in Farson???? I wonder how this location is doing not that it is busy everywhere this summer. I just did a long range hike by Marble CO up in the wilderness area with my dog. It was fabulous. 12 mile, 4 pass loop (not the famous 4 pass loop by Maroon Bells) and only ran into people the last 1/4 of a mile.
That sounds like a sweet hike, Alan! Our friend Dan went up to Green River Lakes in late July and had no trouble securing this precise spot. This area has long been popular, but is nevertheless well off the average person's radar. Throw in 19 miles of washboard dirt road, and it weeds out a lot more folks. We stopped for gas in Farson on our present trip, but no ice cream. When this video was filmed I drove up directly from SLC, and that route doesn't pass through Farson as it approaches Pinedale more directly from the south.
@@GrandAdventure That is awesome!! I could totally build a 1-2 week trip in that area! And, to boot, I have some great friends over on the Lander side of the mountain if we felt the urge to explore from that side too.

Marc, I was very excited when I saw your teaser about your trip to the wind river. Why? Because that very campground was my first western camping trip experience with my two brother-in-laws and all of our families. BTW, my one brother-in-law lives in Syracuse UT, probably not to far from you. I couldn't wait until your video came out - and it didn't disappoint. Your video captures, as good as you possibly can, the beauty of the area, although I think you'd agree that only by being there can you truly appreciate the magnificence of the area. My two children, both now in their early/mid 20's have been all over the world, from Central America, to the Caribbean Islands, to Spain and the Canary Islands, Vietnam, Bali and Thailand. But ask them what their favorite vacation was - the Wind River Campground, hands down. It's amazing. Thanks for another great video!
That's a fantastic story!! Thanks so much for sharing it, as well as your kind words. Your comment is a very enjoyable read, your love for the area truly shows. And we most certainly agree, the only true way to experience the Wind Rivers is first-hand.
Hey Marc, glad I found this video. Heading slowly back home to AZ. Spending the night at the Rim Station RV tonight and planning a ride to the Green River lakes tomorrow. We may or may not move to Pinedale for more nights, perhaps Freemont Lake.
@@GrandAdventure Thanks Marc, yes, watched this one a couple of times already. We were able to book at the new Yellowstone RV park right in town so we'll be there through at least Sunday. Weather looks to be perfect now that the snow and hail is gone!
Thanks so much, John! You won't regret a visit there for one second, we promise. We just by chance met some viewers out camping over the weekend, and they're next headed to the Wind Rivers after watching this episode.
Oh yes. Another beautiful place. Thank you gain for letting me go on such a cool adventure. I can’t wait to get out there one day. And what a cool story below about your Grandfather below. Very cool. I can only hope that we're still at it at 78, Bob! Good on you! We had hoped to cross the border in the other direction this summer to see Patricia's family in Quebec, but the closure squashed our plans. Here's hoping for a little bit more normalcy in 2021!
Now I'm confused. We're heading south on a trip from Canada to Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho. After the Tetons, I was set on exploring the middle fork salmon river near northfork id. Now this area has me really intrigued. Thanks for the capturing it like a champ 👍
We tried to stay there several years ago and had to leave because of the mosquitoes. They were so bad we could even unhatched our trailer, and had to head back to Pinedale to spend the night. I hope you didn't experience the same thing. By the way, your videos are the best of any that I subscribe too. Keep them coming.
Thank you Tom! Mosquitoes were not an issue while we were there. I suspect that similar to the Uintas, the bad season probably lasts about two weeks, and you just hit it wrong. Then again we awoke on July 1 to 32.1ºF and frost on the truck windshield.
This is a really enjoyable video and I am amazed at the panoramic shots that you were able to achieve. Really nice work. We have been enjoying all of your videos and we look forward to following your trail over the coming years.
Thank you Eric! It's a pity that we forgot our GoPro for this episode (and the next, too) as we usually use that for our kayaking shots. In these two episodes we were forced to use our phone while paddling, as it was the only waterproof camera we had. In the next episode #110 this Wednesday, though, the GoPro is back for some kayak fishing while camping in the Uintas!
@@GrandAdventure cool I'm looking forward to you next episode. I watched your Idaho trip last week, then went back to your wind river trip tonight. Both were really good videos, make me want to get out there and go do some kayaking 👍

Nice Job guys, love the content. We live in the Sun Valley area, always looking for new camping and Fly Fishing locations close to home. never even heard of that part of the Green river. Thanks so much
Thanks Andy! When we kayak camped the upper lake 10 years ago we partly paddled/partly portaged that river between the lakes to gain access to the upper lake. We paddled like hell, then eventually couldn't fight the current any longer. We ended up camping on the east shore about 2/3 of the way back on the upper lake.
No, but they're around as both black bears and grizzlies inhabit the Wind Rivers. Those mountains are pretty much the southern end of Grizzly habitat in the Rockies/Intermountain West. When Jon and I kayak tent camped on the upper lake 10 years ago, we were extremely careful to not drop any crumbs around camp, and hung our food about 50' off the ground in a tree a quarter mile away from our tents. Where we camped for this episode, we saw no evidence -- bears, bear scat, or otherwise. Sounds like you and your husband need to put Green River Lakes on your future itinerary!
This was great, Marc. I'm actually currently on my own adventure retracing your post this year in Mancos, Colorado and Mesa Verde/Silverton R/R! You do inspire us. This is a long way from Indiana and the elevation from sea level is a challenge , not to mention Wolf Creek Pass. BTW, the wife even ordered the coffee grinder and press; it has made the trailer smell good in the mornings. :)
Fantastic, Monty!! Glad your enjoying that SW corner of Colorado, it's a beautiful area. If you have the time, once you have that morning cup of freshly ground coffee, go check out Canyons of the Ancients or continue on to Bears Ears.
Beautiful. Planning on heading out to flaming gorge this summer but now am tempted by the big horn mountains. Love your postings
Thank you Kevin! So many choices...
EPIC! You always find the most amazingly beautiful spots to boondock! Thank you for sharing another one with us! Fantastic drone work, Mark!
Thank you as always, Kristie!
I can’t wait to visit soon! Thank you for the great video!
Our pleasure Kelly, thank you for watching!
What an awesome incredible place
It truly is.
Hey Marc, glad I found this video. Heading slowly back home to AZ. Spending the night at the Rim Station RV tonight and planning a ride to the Green River lakes tomorrow. We may or may not move to Pinedale for more nights, perhaps Freemont Lake.
One of our all-time favorite areas, Mark. Enjoy! FYI there's lots more on Pinedale here: ruclips.net/video/d6ptNCXYiwI/видео.html
@@GrandAdventure Thanks Marc, yes, watched this one a couple of times already. We were able to book at the new Yellowstone RV park right in town so we'll be there through at least Sunday. Weather looks to be perfect now that the snow and hail is gone!
You have certainly perfected the ability to find outstanding boondocks campsites. Thanks for reminding me why I want to visit the Winds.
Very cool. Good luck with the fly fishing 🎣. One thing I have not ever done. I could surly tangle up some line doing that. LOL....
I imagine I'll be going through a lot of line, too. Make that "one day" today, NonRev!
Wow. I’ll check this spot out this summer. Thanks for sharing.
You're most welcome MGA, it's one of our favorite campsites anywhere.
Heading to Canada in Sept. Just found a new spot to check out on the way! Thank you Mark and Grand Adventure!
Excellent!
Loved it Marc! Great job my friend.
Thank you so much!
Thanks for sharing Mark.... Great spot, I added it to my bucket list
You're most welcome, it definitely deserves a spot on that bucket list. It's one of our favorite campsites ever.
Moving to Evanston, Wyoming soon. This will be in my backyard...almost!!!!
Pretty much, just a couple of hours north.
Wow just simply amazing, will put this on my bucket list.. Thanks for the info,> happy trails !!
Same to you, Michelle - thank you!
Another great video! Thanks for making my days better.
So happy that we could, Mark!
This clip is definitely one of your best edits yet. Amazing footage.
Thank you so much, Robert!
1st timer with your vlog, you attracted my attention when I saw you had a trailer with a slide-out and a bigger PU, you're more my size and capability so I can get a better idea of what I could do with it. good pic!
Thrilled to have you here, Layton! That Evo actually has dual slides that oppose one another so it's a bit heavier than normal for that size (25'11" overall, 23' box, 5500 lb dry/7200 lb loaded).
Look like gorgeous places enjoy thanks for this video
You are most welcome, Ronaldo. Thanks so much for watching!
you find the greatest camp spots for RVers! Thanks again!
Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good, Mark. 😁 Thank you!
@@GrandAdventure hey we just moved fro CA to WA. man what a nice change...if you are ever in the Long Beach/Ocean Park area of WA...drop us a line! Again I can't get over the great spots you find...THANK YOU!!!
@@markk171 We've been through that area of the Washington coast, you've made a marvelous decision -- congrats! We'll certainly keep you in mind when we someday return.
Excellent video, editing and site info...thanks!
You're very welcome, thank you!
The scenery in this video is what postcards are made of. I just put this place in Wyoming on my bucket list. Thank you for sharing!!!
Thank you so much, Helen! We don't recall seeing your name here before, so welcome.
Thank you for the warm welcome, i'm a new subscriber.
@@helenmallazzo7094 we're thrilled to have you here.
Gorgeous. Thank you. We had some less than great experiences in Pinedale but will have to check out this area. Just lovely. I love the Winds. Thanks for sharing.
I'm a new subscriber as of 9/29/18 and I have to compliment you on a great channel. This video was awe inspiring and very impressive. Everything about the video was perfect, the sound tracks, the drone shots, just beautiful. As I watched the video I had a sense of freedom myself. Thank you for producing such a great video. I'm hooked.
Thank you so much, Lew! We appreciate having you along for the ride.
Great video. Love the drone footage
Thank you Sandra!
Simply amazing Marc! Another fantastic, beautifully shot video. My wife and I are watching in amazement and wanting to go to another Grand Adventure location! Thanks so much Marc and please continue to capture the beauty of this great land of ours
Wow, Chris! Thanks so very much!
A place that is on my list! Great views!! Only I won't forget my fly rods!!
You'll love it, Roy, and let us know how the fishing was!
Looks like an awesome place, it's on my list, thanks for sharing
Thank you Grant, and thanks for watching!
Beautiful area. Thank you for sharing!
Brandon
Thank you, Brandon!
such a beautiful area.
It is truly spectacular.
Great video. If border is open next July, I will visit area to do some butterflying. Need meadows not to hard to access.
bob Alberta 78 yrs old!!
...oh tent camping.
I can only hope that we're still at it at 78, Bob! Good on you! We had hoped to cross the border in the other direction this summer to see Patricia's family in Quebec, but the closure squashed our plans. Here's hoping for a little bit more normalcy in 2021!
So nice and relaxing, thank you.
You're welcome, and thank YOU!
Beautiful! ❤️
Thank you!
Beautiful Marc 👍😎🚌🌎 thanks for sharing and safe travels
Thank you as always, Tom! Fair winds and happy trails to you as well.
Now I'm confused. We're heading south on a trip from Canada to Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho. After the Tetons, I was set on exploring the middle fork salmon river near northfork id. Now this area has me really intrigued. Thanks for the capturing it like a champ 👍
You can't go wrong either way (or both?).
@@GrandAdventure Hopefully! Are you guys allowed to have a fire there while not in a designated campsite?
@@bearlycamping at the moment yes. There was a fire ban there last summer.
You are the best in the biz. Incredible vid! 👏🙏
Wow! 😊 We don't know what else to say in response but "thank you"!
Absolutely True…
This video came up in my feed. I watched it and after checking out your main channel page, you got a new subscriber.
We're thrilled to have you along as a Grand Adventurer, John. Thank you so much!
Beautiful area! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks as always for watching, Gringo!
Beautiful area.
Indeed it is, thanks for watching!
Really nice video.. Great location..
We appreciate that, J -- thank you!
This is a really enjoyable video and I am amazed at the panoramic shots that you were able to achieve. Really nice work. We have been enjoying all of your videos and we look forward to following your trail over the coming years.
Thank you so much, Mike! We truly appreciate your kind words.
thank you for sharing.
Thank you for watching!
Love the ending on that video!!! We are going to place this on the must go list. Thank you for sharing, stay safe Keep Adventuring!
Appreciate it, and same to you up there in the 49th State!
cool video, I really enjoy your kayaking trips.
@@ericmoore6934 no time like the present! Appreciate your kind words.
Glad I found your channel. Was just watching episode 83? 10 rules when boon docking. What is your solar setup? Panel watts size, batteries...etc.
Thank ya
Glad you found us too, Darin! Thank you!
Our solar kit is the 200W suitcase from Renogy, and we're running two GC-2 6V golf cart batteries (although we plan to expand the bank to four of them). We've linked to the Renogy kit in the Grand Adventure Shop on Amazon www.amazon.com/shop/GrandAdventure and way back in Episode 16 we did a whole video on our solar setup: ruclips.net/video/LfSxxf28q6M/видео.html
Beautiful. Did you hear a lot of birdsong there?
TY! We heard tons, and coyote howls too.
Awesome! We’re looking for a wild place to test out our new 3D surround sound technology. Looks like an interesting candidate. Thank you so much. We enjoy your work. 😋
@@lifeenvironments thank you so much!
fantastic wish j was there
Thank you, Ken - make it happen!
Nice Job guys, love the content. We live in the Sun Valley area, always looking for new camping and Fly Fishing locations close to home.
never even heard of that part of the Green river. Thanks so much
You're very welcome, Brad! Thanks for watching.
Absolutely a great video ... awesome footage .. and a beautiful spot ... keep up the great work.. Onward, Onward is the watchword.
Thank you so much for watching and sharing your thoughts, Jeff! We sincerely appreciate it.
Also one of my favorite places. We camped on the river between the lakes a couple years ago. Beautiful country. Great video!
This looks like a place my husband and I would certainly enjoy. Kayaking! Peaceful and solitude.
Did you see any bears?
GREAT videos! And, I love the music you've chosen. Keep it up!
Thank you so much, Steve!
The ruins in Bears Ears in particular are breathtaking, and remote.
Excellent video. Very relaxing. Beautiful music. I bet that “leveled you out”
No doubt that it did, thank you. It actually felt good to disappear from cell service for a few days as with maintaining the channel we usually seek out places that have a signal.
awesome place, thank you
Thanks for watching and for your comment, Don!
Love your channel. I found this secret spot using Google Maps, thanks for sharing! It's just 3/4 mile north Green River Lakes recreation area. Beautiful area, I'm marking it down. I'm there, fall 2020.
Terrific, Tom! Try to remember to let us know how it works out for you. There are literally limitless boondocking campsites all along that road.
So new to this site, Love the recommendation of Green Lakes looks awesome. I am heading out for 2 months for my Grand Adventure. From Tennessee and driving to the real mountains of the winds, glacier, French church, Tetons and any others anyone wants to recommend. love the site. I will be backpacking, kayaking and small off road RV boon docking.
That sounds like a wonderful plan! Welcome to Grand Adventure, and best wishes for safe travels and fair tailwinds on your trip.
Just found your channel great content

Love it, Tina! Get ready for the adventure of a lifetime. Thanks so much for watching!
Just beautiful, Marc!!
Thank you so much, Michael!
How do you find all these great places... Experience and word of mouth I'll bet... Thanks Oh yea... What type of camera and drone do you use????
It's a mix. Sometimes word of mouth, sometimes a bit of research by just sitting down and poring over maps. That's how we first found the Green River Lakes 10 years before we filmed this video. Our workhorse camera is a Sony Alpha a6500, and the drone is a DJI Mavic Pro. Everything we use to film and edit Grand Adventure is assembled here: www.amazon.com/shop/grandadventure?listId=29P8DKMLOCJAX
