      Happily, many songs like this have stood the test of time. Some older songs are often played at weddings, such as 'At Last' (1941) and 'The Way You Look Tonight' (1938). As for me - I love 'em all!

      She could dance tho she wasn’t stiff or had 2 left feet

    • @TheLarryBrown
      @TheLarryBrown 9 месяцев назад +2

      She could sing well. Her off key voice in I Love Lucy was just silly clowning. On various occasions you can hear her singing well, including in her early career before she adopted that "I can't sing" persona. What she meant by her lack of singing is that she was not a great singer like Debbie Reynolds or Judy Garland. Lucy could sing "ok," but she couldn't compete with a person who was actually good. So she decided it was better to do what she excelled at and avoid something at which she was comparatively weak. Still, she could probably sing much better than most any normal person. Carol Burnett was also a weak singer but she just owned it and liked to sing on her show anyway.

    😃 I *LOVE* this episode! It is my favorite. Van Johnson was wonderful in it, and 'how about' Lucy?! 😺 She finally gets a chance to show that she *can* be a part of the show, and Ricky is just grinning and enjoying it. Charmingly played by all...
    I mean, I know there are other shows that stand out (Vitameatavegamin, the chocolate factory, grape stomping, or perhaps the one in the remote cabin with the 'traveling beds' - I think that one is in the movie), ah you all know if you ask one hundred of us our favorite show or scene, you'd get a couple of recurring titles, but on the whole you'd find about seventy five different titles. 😸

      This is one of my favorite episodes for all the reasons you mentioned. :-) It's not shown in the clip here, but after her big number when she runs backstage and she's so exhilarated that she's practically jumping is also a fine example of her acting. It's absolutely believable that she did something totally brave and is still feeling the rush, and Lucy made it feel natural. Just a wonderful scene.

    Van Johnson was deserted by his mother when he was 2 years old. He was raised by his father and grandmother. When he became a name he got a letter from a lawyer representing his mother in regard to supporting her. Something was worked out, not the money she wanted, but still why was she entitled to anything? Van said he didn't object to the support but the way in which it was done.
