Hey American Standard, I am a plumber with over 40 years of experience. Why are these American Standard toilets coming directly from your factory with leaking flapper valves? A brand new toilet with a leaking flapper valve? You have been making toilets for over 100 years and this is the best you can do? I have sold dozens of these toilets to people and recommended them to people but not anymore.
If I had all the money in my pocket from all the time wasted, from all the call backs from this model toilet, I could probably by all the commenters here a really nice dinner $$. NOW I currently have one in a customers house that not only flushes like shit, its leaking and has to be replaced after less than 2 months... Way to go American Standard!! & Way go Home Depot for selling them to home owners that don't know any better!!! 👍👍
Yes, it’s absolutely trash! I have replaced the gasket after 3 months after install, now leaking again after a year. What a nightmare! American Standards are garbage! Their furnaces too
Same here as the previous two comments. My Champion 4 that I purchased from Lowes last year has a valve assembly that does not have a thumbscrew. I currently have a ghost flush issue (dripping and refilling) so the valve gasket appears to be the problem. But, I cannot figure out how to just replace the gasket. Help!
Just called the help line. Apparently the new Universal flush valve is built with a gasket that pulls off, and goes up and over the green top. It is stretchy enough that it won't break. Take a new gasket, and put it back in reverse order. Now, if only their social media team would create a video for that.
Thanks for your detailed video. By the way, I do not have the socket wrench to remove the nuts from the underside of the tank. Where can I buy the tool ? and size ? Waiting for your reply. Thanks
Hi Martyna - The valve nut secures the flush valve in place. If you are missing that component, please give us a call at 800-442-1902 so we can get some more details and send you a replacement. Thanks!
Brought a new toilet. Valve seal started leaking within the first month. What kind of garbage is American Standard is now selling. I will never ever buy another.
For $5.99, you can just replace the flapper from Lowe's Home Improvement. Buying the whole valve replacement with all that work for $21-$30 is ridiculous. There are videos on RUclips that show how to replace it. There is a trick to do it so please search for it.
how do you replace the flush valve seal --there is no nut so that you can remove the top of the assembly to expose and change the seal. On the new one there is the word "unlock" with an arrow showing a counterclock wise direction but there is no nut on the top and there is no bottom so how can you change the seal---This is on a new toilet ( a couple of months old) that a plumber installed and I am already getting ghost flushings--don't tell me I have to get a plumber to change the whole assembly-I am 75 years old and can not do it myself. By the way this new toilet replaced an American Standard Champion so I know how the previous model worked and have a handful of the old seals --any info would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Al - Thanks for sticking with American Standard! This video demonstrates how to replace the flush valve seal for Champion toilets: ruclips.net/video/VS9mzs64oLc/видео.html For additional assistance, please give us a call at 800-442-1902. Thanks!
How come the lower plastic part of my flush valve is separating itself from the upper plastic housing? I took it apart and put it back together multiple times and I get the same result.
Hi Andy - Sorry for the frustration! We recommend giving us a call at 800-442-1902 so we can get some more details and help address your issue. Thanks!
I paid $200 for each of two of these units probably one year ago. It has been a disater! I received a bill from our water dept for 60,000 l of water usage in a short period. I spoke with your customer service and while they immediately offered to send out two new seals it was obvious they knew the toilet was a problem. The intermittent running continues in spite of my best efforts, I even placed stainless steel washers on the chain in an effort to apply additional load to the seal. I am not convinced that has solved the problem yet. I must buy one more toilet but I will NOT be buying an American Standard and will tell as many people who are interested not to buy one. I have made two youtube videos on this problem and I was surprised at the number of similar cases. This video is a major replacement and I for one do nit have the tools required but the big question is, is this the solution ir a temporary fix? I think there is a basic flaw in your design
Video is helpful only if you could find a new flush valve. According to American Standard the part is discontinued. I now have a toilet that isn't that old that is useless.

My toilet doesn't have the top black part that you can unscrew. How can detach the part then?

@@americanstandard your new valve does not have the screw. What a waste of a reply
Thank you!
thankyou ! Easy fix
If the flap comes down before it has ample water to flush waste, what is usually the cause and fix of that problem? 8-)
