  • www.ProCPR.org - Using a bag valve mask is only recommended for 2-rescuer CPR. Using a bag valve mask takes practice. It is important to learn to skillfully seal the mask to the face of the patient without crushing it onto the face. The patient's face should be pulled up into the mask to attain the seal. The C-E method should be used to get a good seal.
    If oxygen is hooked up to the bag valve mask, this will provide a high flow of oxygen to the patient. However, room air is more than adequate for using a bag valve mask effectively. The idea is that none of the rescuer's carbon dioxide emissions are being transferred directly to the patient. Video created by ProTrainings.

    Every tutorial video assumes rescuers will have an oxygen supply available but yours is the only video I’ve found that explains that you can do without it if you don’t have it

    Excellent video. Good point on the hyperventilatio, since the bag has more than double the air volume of an adult's tidal volume.

    This is the BVM method to use for a patient without suspected spine injury, otherwise, you need to open the airway with a jaw thrust and insert an appropriately sized airway if no gag reflex exists.

    Awesome video- with COVID 19 posing a threat to first aid training, and trainers it was my guess that at some point this technique would become a substitute for conventional mouth to mouth ventilation's. Thank you for sharing Roy.

    what study shows that room air ventillation is suficient and safe with a BVM? I have yet to locate such a study or article.

      To my knowledge, Its perfectly safe to use room air, but a lot of the time supplemental oxygen is added. It depends on the needs of the patient. I read this through the EMT-B book

    i have a question say there are 3 people present, 2 taking turn`s during Chest compressions, and the 3rd has the AMBU Bag, can you use the Bag continuously, ie non stop as the other person is doing Chest compression`s , in other words, Bag and Compressions at the same time, till recovery is made.

      Hello John. Until an advanced airway device is in place; compressions and breaths will be in the ratio of 30:2 in adults.
      Pausing compressions while giving breaths is a necessity in absence of an advanced airway; as air will not necessarily go in the trachea while compressions are progressing and chances of air going in the stomach are higher as trachea lies anteriorly.
      In case of advanced airway; compressions will be continuous at the rate of 100-120/min and 1 breath every 6 seconds in all ages! Hope I was able to answer your question.

      jaw - thrust maneuver

    • @neburnynhs9394
      @neburnynhs9394 8 лет назад

      You place your thumb on the patient's Cheek bone and your index and middle finger (speaking as though you're by the patient's head) on the underside of the jaw, right at the top apex of the jaw bone right below the ear and then you just squeeze your thumb and fingers together which pushes the jaw down and out.
