“It’s 11 minutes long though, Jen!” Yes, 11 minutes of greatness, Steve! 😊
Appreciate you checking this one out. I adore this band across the board,…but this song is something special to me. It’s the closer on their album Pitfalls, which explains the length of the song and the drawn out ending. It’s such a moody journey. And Baard’s performance here is SO dynamic. You call it “artistic”, but I’d call it “progressive”. The progressive nature of Leprous is what their fans love about them. Every album is different. (Also, the second drummer is their former drummer.) Loved this! Glad you enjoyed it! 😊

He is an amazing drummer! Puts everything into it when he plays. Fun to watch live. He is also great at being able to play with control, not just playing as hard as possible.

Yes, it's so carefully thought through yet also played with some fire as well as control. Amazing.

I've seen them live five times, Baard is absolutely awesome. So is Solberg (the singer) and the whole band really. Bassist is great, guitars are genius. I totally agree with your comment on the control - Baard can be extremely delicate and brutal within the same time frame. Never seen anything like it, save perhaps from Misery Signal's Branden Morgan.

If you watch closely at the end, his stick snaps and it flies off, he looks at it and then turns the stick around so he can still make the sound he wants. The person would have seen the stick fly out and handed him a new one.

@@SteveOGRock If you're interesting in checking out more Leprous, I'd recommend Castaway Angels first and foremost. It's a very different song from the ones you've already listened to, and I think you'll appreciate how that song progresses from start to finish. It really is an awesome tune, and it also showcases the vocalist's ridiculous singing ability.

So yeah. Leprous is pretty amazing, but also really hard to pin down in terms of the bands progression. They are now in this really cool avant-garde sort of prog rock, but used to be great prog-metal.
Also, that weird sound at about 8 min is actually a violinist from a different band called Bent Knee that is also really cool.

That second drummer is my buddy Simen Sandnes! He and Baard play together in the group "Need Music." Both are amazing human beings and incredible musicians.
You can see more of Simen over on his channel: ruclips.net/user/SimenSandnes

I can not *wait* to hear your thoughts on Aric Improta. The Copper Wasp playthrough is unreal. He and Baard are changing the landscape of percussion in rock/metal these days. They're in a league of their own right up there with Danny Carey. This is the next generation of greats coming into their own and I am all about it 🤘

I believe the sound at the end is the cello. They have a cello player that does a lot on the albums and tours with them.

There's no drumming videos, but the drummer for Sleep Token is a machine much like Baard! The Offering, Hypnosis, and Alkaline all show off his unique and machine like abilities very well 😎

Yes! Huge fan of Vessel2 (as I believe he is called). Unreal drummer. I’ve done a few reaction videos to Sleep Token songs if you’re interested. You can search for them in my channel videos.

Apparently, the reason he keeps the china cymbal so far behind him is so he isn't tempted to overplay it.

I know right? 😂 Originally I had the actual video shown, obviously, but it got blocked worldwide unless I blurred it out so that’s what I ended up having to do. Such a nuisance.

The whole thing is in 11. And is 11 minutes long. Not a coincidence. :)

Thanks Allan! There is a lot of templating and copy/paste that goes on with all the uploads, some things get missed. Updated the title now 👍🏻

Lol! Unfortunately the video of the drumming had to be blurred out to avoid copyright issues on RUclips. My computer is in reality totally fine. Thanks though! 😁
