This idea of showing sub beats by splicing those circles is part of an awesome, soon to come, plugin created by my two good friends Eyal Amir and Or Lubianiker from Modalics. More of that to come, so stay tuned. And here we are jamming to a piece by Eyal, with Omri Abramov on sax: ruclips.net/video/qTWzDjJYaKc/видео.html&ab_channel=EyalAmir
The live studio version of this is amazing and you can see one of the drum sticks explodes in his hand during the "choir breakdown" section, does Baard miss the beat? Hell no, it is like he knows at that exact beat it will break so they give him a stick "in time"
I have been in love with baards drumming since The congregation. What a legend. Songs like Illuminate or The Sky is Red do indeed make me want to quit the drums, but like how can you not admire this artist?
@@Nathan-Rocha Not just the technicality, but he manages to do it _while_ playing for the benefit of the song as a whole. Top-tier drum part composer alongside being great at executing it
@@BroudbrunMusicMerge I agree. Countless of incredible technical drummers in the genre, but Baard I could pick out with my eyes closed. Such a distinctive style and so many ghost notes I swear his snare is haunted.
I saw them when they came to Seattle on March 27th 2022 and they absolutely KILLED it. This song was one of the enders, and they brought the house down with it. Phenomenal show from a phenomenal band.
Baard Kolstad is a f****ing legend! Baard Kolstad is Matt Gartska's technicality combined with Abe Cunningham's pocket feel and the energy of an insane hardcore drummer!
Haha finally. Thank you so much for doing a take on leprous. As mentioned in previous comments, "Mirage" would be crazy interesting. Even Drummers who covered it, couldn't answer me how to count the intro :D
I watched the drum playthrough of this song and it made me wonder what drumstick company this guy is with. They probably need to constantly up their production output just because of him. What a beast 😂😂
Man, you were funny when you started making these videos. But you're absolutely KILLING IT now! I laughed my ass off. I love this song. Favorite tune off of Pitfalls, though At the Bottom is also up there
I saw these guys live a few months back, so worth it, I even got to tell their drummer Baard Kolstad afterwards what an amazing job he does on the drums, as he randomly came into the bar where me and a friend of mine was at, a night well spent, I must say.
Leprous is awesome and their discography is pretty diverse, earlier stuff is a lot more metal and later stuff is more quiet and melodic but it's all great
Wow, just found your channel and I am blown away by how well done your videos are. The visual representations of what I'd normally just see in my head (I rarely notate) plus your originality and creativity on the production side. Loved it, well done mate
After not getting any of the monthly Meshuggah videos (nor this year's Mayshuggah for that matter), I decided to keep digging into your videos, because they're pretty damn incredible. And, then, all of a sudden, I get to know Leprous through this video. I'm astounded by how interesting, musical, dark, technical and tasteful this song is. I've watched Baard's playthrough 10 times in less than 24 hours because of your suggestion. I'm definitely diving into Leprous thanks to you and will most certainly go see them live in November!
Great vid! Thanks for breaking this down🍻❤️ This and The Valley are my two favourite Leprous songs. I had a hard time learning this one especially when he starts displacing the snare🤯

The outro is honestly one of the most crushing things I've ever heard.

This song is something special. And so is Yogev. What a combo!!
This
Ah man, this is gonna make me a Leprous fan, isn't it
Yes, just make sure you check out ALL their albums
Holy shit, didn't expect this song to be covered! Still hard to believe this masterpiece of a song was written in an hour and a half tho
i mean i could write a hundred of these in 10 hrs pretty easily, just cause it's easy to write doesn't mean it's not awesome.
@@jaakezzz_G so why don't you
@@walkinginshapes845 maybe he did but it wasn't awesome like he said!
@@jaakezzz_G pfff ok buddy

The guitar solo in this song is so tasteful. Everything about this song is wonderful
I so agree with you ! I spared my remaining phone battery just for that moment last time I saw them live : ruclips.net/video/GpUgPaHWYJw/видео.html
tone is super crispy, love it
i cry almost every time i listen to it
Leprous just play their music with such ease it is easy to forget it is actually hard. Just to trick us into more head banging. Clever!
I have been in love with baards drumming since The congregation. What a legend. Songs like Illuminate or The Sky is Red do indeed make me want to quit the drums, but like how can you not admire this artist?
I've watched that studio drum play through of tsir 100s of times. Sooo good.
I've watchced that Illuminate playthrough more times than I want to admit. The man plays 4 different meters at certain points, it's in-fucking-sane!

Mirage is fucking insane too
Had the opportunity of taking a drum lesson with him after a recent show. He really is the nicest dude and also an amazing drummer!
They closed with this song the last time I saw them live, such a banger!
I knew it was only a matter of time before you covered this one!
Saw them back in March with The Ocean, probably the best show I've ever been to
@@emfie1 it was quite a show!
@@emfie1 Baard and Paul Seidel? OMG!
Liking it before even watching.. the song is so epic
Yes please!!!
Breaking down the patterns makes you appreciate it even more. The skill level of these guys is just mind blowing. And the musical creativity too.
I saw them when they came to Seattle on March 27th 2022 and they absolutely KILLED it. This song was one of the enders, and they brought the house down with it. Phenomenal show from a phenomenal band.
My hot take is: the outro of this song is the heaviest piece of music ever written. Amazing
I agree 100%. It's even better live
Yogev analyzed The Sky Is Red. Blood has been spilled this night.
Baard Kolstad is a f****ing legend!
Baard Kolstad is Matt Gartska's technicality combined with Abe Cunningham's pocket feel and the energy of an insane hardcore drummer!
Their live shows are absolute magic.
That is one of the sickest outros of all time.
SOOOOOO heavy
Haha finally.
Thank you so much for doing a take on leprous.
As mentioned in previous comments, "Mirage" would be crazy interesting. Even Drummers who covered it, couldn't answer me how to count the intro :D

Baard Kolstad is amazing! I saw Leprous perform this song live in March, and it was incredible!
I KNEW something was different about this song! I never nailed the headbang, even after years of listening and now I know why.
I actually reached out to Baard and asked him to check this out. Well done analysis mate!
And he shared it on FB
ohhhh really ?
DUDE!! Thank you so much for showing this band!
Never heard this song before. Got to go check it out
Make sure to check out Rewind and Moon by Leprous.
oh my god the Randy clip almost killed me
Beautifully eloquent analysis as always!
0:04 Really should have held up a picture of a Nothing (2002) CD haha
The electronic beat behind the drums is what pushes this over from good to great imo
this music, this album, has saved my life.
I watched the drum playthrough of this song and it made me wonder what drumstick company this guy is with. They probably need to constantly up their production output just because of him. What a beast 😂😂
He plays with Vic Firth 55A's
Drumsticks annihilator 😁
The weird times signatures is one of the many reasons I love this band 🖤 I love the concept of this video it's really easy to understand, great job
This is not the place I expected to see a clip from Randy Writes a Novel!
Love all of this!
This has to be one of the best video on youtube ever made.
Brilliant format, glad RUclips suggested the video
what a wonderful way to explain things in music, so intuitive
I've been waiting for this one ! Baard is one of the most innovative drummers out there !

Seeing them play this as an encore/outro live was an insane experience. Leprous are wiiiild
This was the first Leprous song I heard and to this day it remains my favourite. Such a cool song!
I got to see them live in Atlanta. It was special. Baard makes it look easy.
I saw these guys live a few months back, so worth it, I even got to tell their drummer Baard Kolstad afterwards what an amazing job he does on the drums, as he randomly came into the bar where me and a friend of mine was at, a night well spent, I must say.
Thank you for introducing me to this band and consistently making some of the most interesting content on my feed Yogev, you legend
Awesome video. Has deepened my appreciation of the song. Good job, sir.
Wow very cool explanation on the structure of the song. This is my first video of yours that I have seen. Just subscribed.
You're the man Yogev and giving me new amazing bands to listen to on top of that is just awesome. Thank you!
You're gonna love these guys. If you like metal, start with The Congregation. It's a masterpiece.
Leprous is awesome and their discography is pretty diverse, earlier stuff is a lot more metal and later stuff is more quiet and melodic but it's all great
Best drummer ever. Period.
One of my favorite analysis channels covering my favorite band and favorite drummer? It's a dream come true!
Yes sir...the best read through for us 4/4 people. The time signature is wierd but these guys make it swing.
You should take a look at Haken! Cockroach King is amazing

A cool example of groovy 11 is E by Tricot comes around 2 min into the song. The pattern follows similar clave (4,4,3) but with a steady kick

Absolute masterpiece.
Thank you! I love this song but had no idea the count. Sometimes could feel it just lap drumming along but now I stand a chance of understanding it
Hah same, but specifically the outro. It's just such a weird mishmash of rhythms, but so cool.
I love this song. That outro is insanely dense!!

One of my all time favourite songs
This song is a masterpiece of masterpieces. I damn near broke my mouse when I saw this in my feed. PLAAAAAAAY NOOOOOOW.
This outro hits VERY differently live. It's fucking madness.
Saw them live on their recent US tour with The Ocean. Probably the best concert I've ever been to, they played The Sky is Red as the encore!
