OMG, this is like my dream toy since I was A kid. But all I could do is dream of having one since it's a bit expensive. Never had the chance to buy one. 😍😍😍
Wow. My take is, this is a fantastic toy. That's from someone who has an original 80's "jetfire" proudly in my collection. I value that original above anything else, because it IS a work of art for its day (and was mine as a kid). But...Bandai, Arcadia, and this brand all surpass it from a purely neutral perspective. Thanks for this very detailed review!
I have guarded my 1980s bandai Skull Leader toy in the box never played with for years. Could never get my hands on the jetfire as a kid so I had one to play with though T+T lol.
I’ve had mine for about a month now and love it! I bought mine direct from Kitz Concept as a pre order in March. The only complaint I had was a loose screw in the right shoulder which I fixed without a problem. Great review, keep it up!
Wow! I almost bought the 1.0 version, amazing improvements, they addressed almost all the weak points and go far beyond with all the new joints. And is a bit taller so it will look nicer next to my YF-19 Full Set Pack. I love the paintjob in the KitzConcept releases. This 1.5 looks even better.
They now coming out with Max & Miriya's VF's with Fast Packs included. Thank you for this review as well, now have to decide if replacing the Hi-Metal R's with KitzConcept is worth the dough.
Thanks for the update! I saw that current releases include an updated VF-1S "Rick Hunter" ( movie ) custom! Just because of current pricing, I would really recommend sticking with the BanDai Hi- Metal and Hi- Metal R toys ( KitzConcepts made the standard VF-1A as the "limited edition special" in current release, oddly as well ). BanDai makes a good product, and the new licensing agreements mean they will get to produce "40th anniversary specials" ( they already have one out in the VF-25 line ) as well as reissues of previous mecha! ( hopefully ) :)
@@Williestyle-RobotechxMacross-x Oh so they are actually going to take advantage of the new agreement! Rather then just let it lay as a paper agreement only, good to know. I've seen the few Bandia VF-'s they have released to date, I desire the M&M 's Blue and Red with fast packs as my display pieces, if they ever get to them. lol And ty for the info and taking the time to reply.
No problem. There is still no official word from BanDai about any other future "world wide" toys to be released other than the 40th Anniversary special. But the existing matched Red and Blue set of VF-1J's from the Hi-Metal R line are available through online resellers - cough ( e bay ). And KitsConcept does have license with Macross and Robotech, they will make at least every VF mecha, at some point.
@@Williestyle-RobotechxMacross-x Oh I have the Blue & Red Hi Metal R's already, they are great pieces for their small size. Just looking about for something with that bigger WOW factor.
Yes, but not of this specific toy. KitzConcept does pay both licenses, it seems. Till the end of the year, any Macross only marked *import* toys pay nothing to H G.
Nice review! I got this guy a couple of weeks ago and am pretty happy with the bot and the presentation. Plenty of accessories and detail...especially considering the price. I dig the paint job and the panel line work as well...which are one of the stand out features of this toy (the other being articulation). My only complaints are the general instability in gerwalk mode and the way the hip bar flexes in battloid mode. I think KC did an overall great job with it, and I hope they continue to make improvements to this design.
I can see the VF-1S flopping around when you handled it. Pretty sure Kitzconcept will definitely release an update version of that one. Glad I didn't it get then. Looking forward to the 1.5!
Of all the franchises out there, gotta love Macross - SO many remakes of the original designs, and on average, every toy was pretty much a high-end and pricey piece. And they keep on updating and selling like hot cakes!
Man, I'd be upset if I had picked up the 1.0 after seeing all the improvements on this one. I hope they release another VF-1S in this 1.5 version. Glad I passed on the 1.0.
@@Echowhiskeyone I like the extra poseability this has and the detail. The light up gimmicks are nice but not necessary. They should have worked on the other flaws it has instead.
As someone that *has* picked up a "version 1.0" VF-1S toy, KitzConcept did better than any other first edition - except for the 1/48 scale by Yamato and later BanDai. The solid feel and build quality match the look of the sharp paint apps, only really let down by the things noted in this video. KitzConcepts now has several different VF-1 toys listed for pre-sale, all largely to the same standard as this VF-1J.
Looking at your side-by-side pics of the original and the 1.5, it really does seem as if this one is actually a complete retool. Would have been nice if they had fixed the gunpod clearance issue, and I'm kind of ambivalent about the proportions of the intakes, but otherwise I'm fairly impressed by the improvements.
So in doing some other research on this, I think you're wrong about the display stand. I think it does support all 3 modes based on what I'm seeing on the Sun Of the Empire video clearly shows it working in all 3 modes.
Gotta wonder why they do not just do 1/60 as the extra room would allow the light gimmicks to build in light bleed protection and they could do tall landing gear.
That goes to the original concept: these were supposed to be smaller and cheaper toys than the Arcadia 1/60 V2 VF-1 toys which would help them avoid direct comparisons. Things morphed from there but that's how it started and now they're committed.
@@ScorchedEarthToys I get it, but I am on the 1/60 and 1/48 train for life LOL. Unless I hit the lottery! Edit: thank you for the DX VF-19 transformation video, some swearing did occur over the canards, your vid was the only way I'd have figured it out.
Looks great but Im getting a bit fatigued with the veritech/VF fighters. I would love to see them make kits of the enemy vehicles from both the Macross, Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross and Genesis Climber MOSPEADA. Dont ever see any of those. Love to have a Bioroid or the troop carrier or Corgs mecha from Mospeada and some Invid mecha.
Awesome and informative review! I'm this close to buying it - but I could use one piece of advice. How big is the difference between this and the Bandai DX toys? Obviously Bandai is premium, but is it really that big of a deference considering how much easier and cheaper it is to get this version?
The big difference is sheer size. This VF-1J is 1/72 scale and the DX versions are around 1/48 scale. BanDai also charges over $120 more, at current prices ( when you can even get in on a DX preorder from Japan, they sell fast ). Check any DX series VF-1 video here on ScorchedEarthToys.
Great video I preorder mine already through your link.. question where do I purchase the super parts set that will fit this figure? Thanks again in advance
On the BBTS website it's listed as: Robotech VF-1S Valkyrie 1/72 Scale Fast Pack Armor and is currently in stock. One thing to note, the fit of the fast pack calf armor to the back peg in fighter mode is CRAZY tight. I had to install the calf connector piece to that peg and then attach the leg to it before installing the armor that goes on the side of the leg. To take it off, I had to wiggle/jiggle the piece for a while before it was free. It all worked but it wasn't smooth. You only use those pegs in fighter mode, in all other modes it was all good.
Great review! I still feel like these are still a bit overpriced for what they are compared to DX. I would much rather spend a bit more and buy the DX than this. BBTS has them listed for $159.99 and I just don't think it is worth that price tag.
Solid revamp of the original release fokker. However, they still haven’t addressed the hips locking into place more securely. But I have to admit, so far no company has completely solved that problem. Yamato, Arcadia, and Bandai designs could use more work, the problem I have is that if you push a leg inward towards the other leg in gerwalk, all designs fail and the intakes separate from the body rather easily. Kitz Konceptz is still behind in that regard, it looks sloppy when in gerwalk mode, and passable in fighter mode. I’d also like to see them revise the gunpod and incorporate the grip that collapses like all other toys have done, shouldn’t be that hard honestly. Other than that, this new release is a huge step in the right direction. I myself won’t buy this release, but I’ll wait and see if they retool it further and make it worth the purchase.
Agreed on the gun. I presume the issue is that they want to keep the lights to differentiate their product and the battery bay, light, and switch take up too much space in the barrel to allow the typical gun grip collapse. Maybe the answer is to include two guns...
The story I heard was that it was supposed to come out last December but all the improvements slowed things down and they were ready to do a run just when COVID hit.
It looks like Kitzconcept has annihilated the Hi-metal line with these releases. It's hard to compete at this price point and value. Too bad the beer bug has pushed back the delivery to May. Will I ever see my green DX and my Kitzconcept 1-J? sigh...
Wow, the light bleed is really bad on that thing. Intakes look awful. Thanks for the great review as always, very informative. Will not be exploring KC as an option, will stick with Arcadia or Bandai DX.

working with models in star trek lighting you can put a small piece of tin foil inside the gear area to stop the light bleeding effect.

Hope they continue their line. Would love max and mira along with their veritech fighters
