- This is probably one of the easiest ways to make a repeated pattern and super useful to know 👍🏽

Thanks for 1k subs!!!! Also repeating patterns rule!!
Totally, I am hoping to use this to create dot grid paper.
Brilliant Tutorial!!!! Thank you!
Great video! I do something similar but I skip the export as PNG step completely most of the time by first adding the adding the new pattern shape to the Assets library. Then I select the Gradient Fill tool and click the asset I just created. Instant repeating pattern with no export needed. Really anything saved as an asset can be used as a pattern in this way. Affinity will automatically rasterize the asset so it can be repeated. For an additional touch with the pattern, once I've scaled it and rotated, I use the Appearance tab to add another color or gradient fill. I'll tweak it and drag it to the bottom of the stack. (This requires the pattern have a transparent background. If not leave the new color/grad fill in the middle of the stack and try different modes like Overlay, Darken, Burn, etc.) Finally I add the pattern as a Style for future use.
Wow, you made this so easy. You are a genuine guru! You've gained my subscription just now.
You are the best Affinity Designer teacher!! Love all of your videos.
I agree 👍
Thank you so much for this video. I followed your instructions and have made a repeated pattern then printed it onto a3 paper to use as gift wrapping paper. My niece will love that her wrapping paper matches the birthday card I made for her. Thank you so much 😊
That’s a great idea! Hope she does like it 👍🏽
This was the best short video I have ever seen. Thank you so much for this!
Hello there! I'm starting my own shop and I'm using Affinity Designer for everything! So your video made it absolutely crystal clear on the pattern designs we want to create and a big thank you for this! Nice video and please keep up the good work! Cheers from Montreal, Canada!
Thank you so much
Fine work BB .. Great reminder for things I often forget to use (thanks) .....But Noise was a new to me. 👍👍(double thumbs)
Good tut. Thank you.
You are a legend ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ thanks so much for this epic video 🙏👍☕ I love the way you describe your process as you go along, as a visual learner, that helps so much. Have subscribed. 👍☕
Thank you for another quick and easy to follow video! Congratulations on your more than 1k subscribers - I hope it continues to increase because your videos are so professional with well explained - I love your style!
Thank you so much !!! Best tutorial for pattern
Well that works yeah, but it can be even simpler ^^ Technically Trent also gas a tutorial about it and so check that out maybe you like this method more and if not well It's never bad to know multiple ways to do it :D
Thank you for sharing this.
Since the pattern is bitmap then can this be used for textile printing? how large should the single tile be in that case?
Thank you, this was super helpful.
Thanks for this one!!
Very well explained. Thanks.
Great explanation, thanks
so your doing a bitmap fill. but it loos like vector? is is editable vector ?
Awesome thanks
Thank you for uploading this video. Saved so much time dude, top G Brown Bear. Any chance of making a mandala in rotation pattern?
Thank you!!!
Very nice. Thank you!
Nice just what I wanted to find out :)
Thanks BB
Hi! Thanks for the video! QUESTION? How do you get rid of those tiny lines between each tile when putting them one beside another (when not using bitmap)?
I think if you’re not using bitmap then it can create an artificial boarder or background for the tile. Check when you export it if it still has the lines. Sometimes on the screen there is a line but when you export there isn’t
Thank you it's good technic
hi there, once the image is saved as a bitmap, how can you change the color of it?
Hi! this is amazing thank you! I'm super new and using v2 and having trouble finding the content/fill tool. Could it have something to do with how I created the new board? thanks in advance!!
oh wait...i think i found it in the vector flood fill tool, but any suggestions welcome!
Vector flood will work. You can also use the pencil tool or you can also select your shape and change the fill of the shape itself to give it some colour
@@BrownBearProductions thank you! I'll try those.
Great video. What is the best way to print your PNG as a JPEG? Having correct size the PNG was designed in. Mine are printing smaller than the original size.
Do you mean when you export the final design? Or when you make the pattern that will be used for the repeating pattern?
Thank you for the explanation. Just one question: Is there other way how to move, resize and adjust the pattern except using the little handles? I`m having difficulties to fit the right dimension and align it to axis...
Not that I know of unfortunately. There are 2 things you can do to make it easier. One is turn off the snapping tool when using the handles, so it doesn't get caught on the snapping guides. and second is, go to Edit -> Preferences -> Tools and increase the tool handle size to make something more comfortable. For now, that seems to be the only option so hope that helps
@@BrownBearProductions Thank you.
this is great I thanks - how do you do this on the iPad for either Affinity Designer 2 (seems to be a bitmap fill bug) or Affinity Photo 2 - thanks :)
- love your channel
I'll have to look into this for iPad. I've heard there being a bitmap bug but haven't checked to see if it was fixed. May bring an update to this video out soon including the iPad 👍🏽
@@BrownBearProductions I just found out - if you use the side scroll arrows - on the drop down solid; whatever … bitmap - then it works
- newbie - now have to figure out the whole process - export ipad AD pattern tile as png - to an AD folder - but AD does not seem to like that - ugh - if u do figure out the whole process - create pattern tile; export as png ? and where on ipad - and then back into,AD ipad - create shape and fill with bitmap - would be awesome 😊
To be fair, I wouldn't be surprised if it's possible but the app force closes when you get close to the end. I've had quite a few issues with the app recently where it just closes on me for no reason. But I will give it a go to see 👍🏽
@@BrownBearProductionsI just figured it out - lol - export, save image to ipad photos ; then from photos -share photo to where i had AD files on icloud (called folder png files) - bingo - I can then select the patt tile png and resize / twist pattern - not tryin’ to be wise - just one determined pattern maker - on a mission hehe 😉
Well done! I'm glad I could be here for this moment 😂
Hi BrownBear. Loving your channel. Just wondering if you might be able to help me regarding repeating patterns. Sometimes when I import a bitmap and manipulate it within a square or rectangle, I find that some of the components appear distorted. Any ideas please?
Hmm it may be if the bitmap resolution is small. When you make the pattern try a bigger canvas size
Also make sure that when you are manipulating the pattern on your shape that the "ratio lock" is selected on the top toolbar
Thanks BrownBear - I'll try that. My canvas size tends to be around 1000x1000px, though I've never used the "ratio lock", so I'll check that out. Thanks again for your time.
Thank you! John 3:16-19
Does Affinity have an offset capability? This looks painfully manual.
Photoshop has the offset ability to view my pattern's seams, and Krita has a live tiling feature so I can paint on the seams in real time. Does Affinity have this or is it just "manually drag your shapes around" - this works okay for vector, but I am trying to get away from Photoshop (Adobe) as a whole. Krita has performance issues, and right now Affinity just doesn't seem like it has the capability for more texture-oriented work.
Thanks man , i want to ask you something please, could affinty designer do a professional text effects like illustrator? ...
All what i see in RUclips, are poor text designes in affinty designer..
If you could do some professional videos i will be so grateful
Thanks ..
Definitely you can do really good text effects in Designer.
Can you show me an example of what effects you mean? So I have an idea of if it's possible (my guess will be most likely yes)
@@BrownBearProductions the ones that i could but in a t-shirt design or like a show text logo , or movies text logo , you can serch text effects on illustrator
Thank you so much
Just serch : text effects on illustrator
Then serch : text effects in affinty designer
And you will see the difference
