  • Stanley Unwin sometimes billed as Professor Stanley Unwin, was a British comic actor and writer.
Stanley invented his own comic language, "Unwinese" He was in the film Carry On Regardless in 1961 as "gobbledygook". Unwinese was a corrupted form of English in which many of the words were altered in playful and humorous ways, as in its description of Elvis Presley saying he was "wasp-waist and swivel-hippy".

Whoever he worked with, whatever their stature, however funny, Stanley always stole the show. He was totally unique. Everyone's favorite, funny uncle.

He was a genius was Stanley and this was a lovely video. I’d forgotten about him but the memories soon come back. I realise now that my dad loved all these comedians as he watched them a lot back in the 1950’s 60’s 70’s. and 80’s. My dad was born in 1916 such a different generation. I really enjoyed this, thanks Alan.

Hello Joan, we all have our favourites and for me Stanley was one of mine. I only saw little bits of him but I just love his cuteness and the gobbledygook. We are pushing back into time. I know some of these comedians around the edges of memory. But I like to look back I never knew also. Anyway, I'm glad it made you think of your father and you enjoyed the film. Deep joy !

Another lovely video, the guy certainly was a one off, a genius tbh, I always loved trying to work out what he said lol, as Kenneth Wiilliams said to Sid James after Stanley's 2 minute dialogue, "Can you understand him" said Sid, " Yes I think so" said Kenneth, "hes given you notice to quit, hes had a better offer for the premises hes your landlord" Watch the carry on clip with Stanley truly brilliant, a lovely guy appeared in many shows and films, and what a lovely Church setting and graveyard.❤🌹

I still remember Stanley Unwins Goldieloppers and the three bearloders who went furtrollopping up the garbaledge footoader! Not sure of the spelling as it's not my first language! LoL. And Cardew Robinson, now theres a name I have not heard for decades, he was a brilliant one off guy. I also remember with much affection Bill Maynard and Arthur Mullard who I once met,, funny story I came out of a station in Islington and there was a chap standing serving at a flower stall I said "excuse me do you happen to know where 'a certain road' ,, I heard Yus son and he turned and pointed to the direction I should take, I thanked him politely and said I recognise him from Yus my Dear and loved the show he offered out a big hand, we shook hands and off I went. I never knew till a short while ago of his somewhat sad and chequered early days, but he seemed a gentle sort to me.
