Hi there, really enjoyed the vlog on Tony Hancock, I was amazed he was only 44 years old when he died, such a waste, a very gifted comedy actor. Great advice at the end !!!! Thanks so much, very enjoyable. 😀👍😀
Hello Rona, I did think about Harry Worth the other day. I've got to go back to my notes. I think I had a problem finding any location but you've jogged my memory. Thank you for the comments and very kind of you to suggest that. All the best, Alan
A bit before my time too , though Mum and Dad used to talk about him . I've seen and heard repeats of his work . I find him a very depressive person 😔 . This is my least favourite vlog , Is he shoved in a back space in the graveyard because of the belief that taking one's own life was a sin in those days ? Not too many years before that people were not allowed to be buried inside the church boundaries.
@@thekitowl I think you're right , I've had a look at his career since I last posted and that matches up . Strange character 🤔 but I hope he rests easy . 🙏

In actual fact. Margaret, he was on drugs because I went over to see if he was ok and gave him some money so as he promised not to buy anymore and buy food. Is that ok thank you Alan
Thanks Alan. What a tragic end to such a great talent. Kevin Mcnulty impersonated Tony Hancock . He recorded Tony Hancock the lost scripts. Give it a listen. He sounds just like Tony. I visited this churchyard around 10 years ago but never found any marker. Have a lot of his albums and listen to him regularly on BBC Sounds reruns. Only one thing I found incorrect on this brilliant episode is that Willie Rushton was not Tony’s brother. He brought Tony’s ashes back from Australia. I assume they were friends back in the day.
This is another one I would love to visit! Such a pity the road is closed off at present, as I will be picking my wife up from Heathrow is a couple of weeks - but my mobility is a bit of a problem, so I might have to give it a miss. At least he is recorded in Billion Graves, so others should be able to find him. I think they must be renovating the Cranfield Park Stables, next door to the church. Loved Tony Hancock when I was a kid! Thanks for the video!
Just remembered - at Primary school ,in about 1960 , we had a joke where you mimed "Toe, Knee, Hand..." and you can guess the rest! The things you remember, eh!
Hi Alan… Yes, Tony Hancock was born very near to where I live, Southam Road in Hall Green. Like so many “comedians” his jocular, funny character and smile hid a myriad of self-doubting demons and profound misery. I believe that the hang-dog look he had was an insight into the man himself. In remembering his difficult periods, cruelty and alcoholism we should temper all of that with the happiness and laughter that he brought to post war Britain. The man is a legend in his own right. Thank you for your research and sensitive presentation.
Hi Tee thank you for all that information. He wasn't it a very creative man. It's a shame me at that black element to his character . Take care of yourself. Alan
I’ve been there too, though you could drive down when I went. Strange place, little track straight off of a huge roundabout on the M4. Nice church though and surrounding buildings, and the high trees shield the road noise a bit.
I hope you looked at his plaque Yes it did, but when I went I drove down the little track and was totally immediately because of the building works. It's strange as I've got a big car park, but they won't let you stay even when there's nobody there ahaha
Cranford Park and Church is a hugely historical place. Parts of the church dates back to the 14th century and well worth a look inside. Shame the park and stables are closed for renovation as they are fantastic. As a child I spent all my summer holidays in this park, its huge! I was married in this church and worshipped there regularly. My grandparents ashes are also interred there. It is a little creepy in the graveyard but I think that’s because of the age of it.
Hello Florence, I think it's also because you can't drive down to anymore. You've got to go under the subway from the estate. It just still seems a little bit weird. Kind of atmosphere but it didn't help with the guy on the bench. Sleep under some sacking. I think my mind just playing tricks with me but thank you for all the information. Regards, Alan
@@MotorHomeBeepBeep it is a wonderful sight when u drive over the bridge and the park opens up. You did well to find the back entrance through subway. Def worth a second trip when it’s all open again.

Tony was very popular in the days I recall watching with my parents when we had the huge tv choice of just two channels, haha, but joking aside we absolutely loved Tony Hancock, and also Sid James but mainly watching just Tony's hours, and I so remember the Blood Donor, sad that he died so young and so unhappy, just awful sadly missed. He earned a lot of money in those days in comparison what people earned although by today's standards it sounded like very little earnings but it wasn't.
Hello Annetta you can't imagine only having two channels, can you? But it makes you think that people appreciate everything that got more than there's so much now that sometimes people become blasé and don't appreciate. Lovely memories of watching with your parents. Keep in touch. Thank you for watching. Alan
Tony Hancock the blood donation so funny. Such a dead pan comic but the poor guy was depressed, a common thing with comedians. May he rest in eternal peace.
Hi Alan. I have only recently found your channel and find it particularly interesting and excellent overall. U come across as a very caring and emotional person who has great insight and respect for the people whose graves are visited. U are really well researched on the celebrities too and I find this of particular interest, especially as u speak of them with genuine compassion and understanding. Hi Alan great video it looked quite a quaint looking place apart from all the barriers and fences a lot of that I’ve noticed I’m not so familiar with Tony hancocks humour a bit before my time but I’ve heard of him sad ending way too young lovely memorial stone though different thanks Alan take care 😊❤️
In actual fact Crystal, this was the most disturbing film that I ever did. You got to the cemetery through a very dark tunnel close to an estate which wasn't very nice + there was an unfortunate homeless person living in the graveyard under a tarpiling. The whole thing was scary ... But I'm glad I did the film. I'm pleased you enjoyed watching. Thank you, alan
Alan I was only born a few years before he died but I have seen the episode of the blood donor and that is really funny. I did read that he killed himself in Sydney at a young age which is so very sad, maybe back then, they didn’t have psychological support, who knows. Thank you for doing a lovely report and I also remember the Lena Zavaroni one as that was just so sad.
Spooky old place thought Tony Hancock may have had a more substantial grave I looked out for the sleeping man on bench.but didn't see him bit disappointed. The video is excellent as per usual Alan top marks to you,
Thank you, Alan ... Re your textual intro, above (and below the screen): 'Tony Handcock burred ...' Surely some spellung misstakings? *Rest In Peace, Tony et al.* Cool upload, A. All the best. Stay free. Rab 😎 🍻 🌠 🕊
Thank you for your understanding, re my Spelling Police intrusion, Alan. I have broken off watching your tasteful and informative upload featuring Long John Baldry, to reflect to you my appreciation. Bye for now, A. R 👋
I do notice many comics have mental illness like manic depression. Spike Milligan and Robin Williams for example. Their comedic abilities seem to be part of their mad genius phase.
Hey Alan how you doing mate hope your well ... Great post this funny this I was watching Hancock's half hour this morning brilliant great Tony Hancock sadly died too young in Australia keep the videos comeing please 💯💯😊
Hi Andy coincidence? I can't actually remember watching a full episode for a long time. I might give them a go. Always great to see you anyway, take care mate Alan
I used to live not far from Cranford and have seen the plaque which is on the wall at thr other end of the church. I think his mum is on it too if I recall correctly.
the reason it might seem to be in a weird place is years ago if you took your own life you was buried right away from the church may be that's what happened with his ashes.
That's what I thought too, Diana. The plaque is impressive, but it seems it's out of the way and set on crumbling brickwork, which seems very sad. Thank you very much for this video. A good choice of backup videos. HHH is still brilliant. I went to see Galton and Simpson at an event about 20 years ago. Unassuming and humble men. The best comedy script writers.
Very interesting once again. Makes you wonder if its worth being famous with so many having taken drugs or even committed suicide a very up and down life seems to be going from person to person looking for acceptance so sad 💙💚 love from Gill Holmfirth West Yorkshire 💙💚
Hello Gill, yes I know what you mean. It's obviously when people are successful they get a lot more pressure from our directions so it is not surprising. Sometimes they crack more than they have a day person. I think it all depends on how they handle it as with everything in life, but definitely a success. Doesn't always mean happiness. We've seen some sad ones on this channel. But let's not be sad. We're not superstars so we're ok. Thank you for the comment as always Alan. See you soon
You should visit the site of Cranford Hall which ain't far from the church, not much there accept a the old entrance and a ice house, whether it's still there is another thing as is a long time ago.
Tony Hancock was a troubled soul and a flawed genius. Such a sad ending to his short life. The BBC are still broadcasting his radio show and are finding lost episodes.
His radio show was the best. The tv show was good, but the radio shows before tv were his best. The truth is, greed of being famous got to him. He didn't like others getting a laugh. Personally I think Kenneth Williams could bury him alive when it came to talent. Hancock could only ever do Hancock, nothing else.
Tony ( to me ) is similar to Frankie Howard, absolutely brilliant at delivering lines but couldn’t write them. Kenneth was also in a similar vein, Peter Cook wrote one of his reviews & the success went to Kenneth’s head. When Peter was asked to write the follow up Kenneth turned the material down , one sketch being “a leg too few “ which Peter gave to Beyond the Fringe & was so popular it killed review & put Ken out of stage work.
I thought he had committed suicide like you said in Australia but also asphyxiation a polythene bag over his head ... I have a morbid interest because remember these people.. thanks
Apparently Tony Hancock was studying comparative religions to try to understand why he was funny . A very sad man considering the joy he brought to so many people .
The guy sleeping on the bench: "probably on drugs and things". Could be! Or maybe he left his light on? There was a Hancock episode where Hancock forgot to cancel and arrived back home after a holiday to find a bread and milk mountain outside his front door. Hancock was a Poncinello (a right funny fellow).
@@emmajones5075 No he was on drugs that's why he had no money and that's why i said don't buy drugs buy food with the money i gave him. He said he would.

Another great video, thank you Alan. 👍
Thank you for the encouragement Lee see again hopefully best Alan
Spooky old place thought Tony Hancock may have had a more substantial grave I looked out for the sleeping man on bench.but didn't see him bit disappointed. The video is excellent as per usual Alan top marks to you,
Hello Richard, I didn't want to look under the material in case it was you :-). See you soon
@@MotorHomeBeepBeep ha ha 😆😆
Another good one Alan x
Your super Maureen :-)
Good God only 44 when passing.
Good one ❤.
Just found your channel, you have an interesting channel here, good work
Thank you my friend. That's very kind of you
Thank you, Alan ...
Re your textual intro, above (and below the screen): 'Tony Handcock burred ...' Surely some spellung misstakings?
*Rest In Peace, Tony et al.*
Cool upload, A. All the best.
Stay free. Rab 😎 🍻 🌠 🕊
Hi Rab Well spotted and thank you for telling me I'm a bit dyslexic and I do things like that. Take it easy. Alan
Thank you for your understanding, re my Spelling Police intrusion, Alan.
I have broken off watching your tasteful and informative upload featuring Long John Baldry, to reflect to you my appreciation.
Bye for now, A. R 👋
The lost Hancock's half hour scripts were redone with amazing actor/ impersonators. It's on the BBC sounds app now.
Wise words.
Thanks Jacqueline
I do notice many comics have mental illness like manic depression. Spike Milligan and Robin Williams for example. Their comedic abilities seem to be part of their mad genius phase.
Hey Alan how you doing mate hope your well ... Great post this funny this I was watching Hancock's half hour this morning brilliant great Tony Hancock sadly died too young in Australia keep the videos comeing please 💯💯😊
Hi Andy coincidence? I can't actually remember watching a full episode for a long time. I might give them a go. Always great to see you anyway, take care mate Alan
Tony Hancock was a very clever comedian so sad about his life
This is not far from where I grew up in Hayes! It’s very haunted there….
Very interesting your videos! 😊
Kind of you Linda
So many sad entertainment stories.
I agree. Tony, I'm a bit blown away but maybe that pops to bubble of celebrity. Maybe it takes more than it gives? Thank you, Alan
"A pint, that's almost an armful" !
Agree that graveyard does look Erie and his headstone looks like it’s on a wall like a little letterbox
Quite a scary place as well
I used to live not far from Cranford and have seen the plaque which is on the wall at thr other end of the church. I think his mum is on it too if I recall correctly.
Well Louise
Had no idea he dropped Sid James as a work colleague, very sad.
Hi Kathryn he dropped everybody was a shame wasn't it must have been insecurity. All the best Alan
very funny man shame how it all ended comedians seem to walk a fine line with this.
Alan Thanks for showing Tony Hancocks grave wasn't Shelia Hancock his wife?
No she was married to John of inspector more fame
the reason it might seem to be in a weird place is years ago if you took your own life you was buried right away from the church may be that's what happened with his ashes.
Hi Dian never know that best Alan
That's what I thought too, Diana. The plaque is impressive, but it seems it's out of the way and set on crumbling brickwork, which seems very sad. Thank you very much for this video. A good choice of backup videos. HHH is still brilliant. I went to see Galton and Simpson at an event about 20 years ago. Unassuming and humble men. The best comedy script writers.
Terry Nation (where is he buried?) wrote for him, but got sacked by Tony. Terry went on to create the Daleks in Doctor Who.
Location Un know nice try Anthony
Two of my mums relatives are buried there ..
You should visit the site of Cranford Hall which ain't far from the church, not much there accept a the old entrance and a ice house, whether it's still there is another thing as is a long time ago.
I don’t think Willie Rushton was Tony Hancocks brother.
It was Roger Hancock according to Google,
Tony Hancock was a troubled soul and a flawed genius.
Such a sad ending to his short life.
The BBC are still broadcasting his radio show
and are finding lost episodes.
In Birmingham city centre there is a transparent monument of him..
Hi Kenndo thanks for thant
He was bipolar but at that time they didn't know what it was !!
His birthplace is located near the watermill with the Tolkien connection.
When Peter was asked to write the follow up Kenneth turned the material down , one sketch being “a leg too few “ which Peter gave to Beyond the Fringe & was so popular it killed review & put Ken out
of stage work.
👍
Tony handcock 😂😂
Don't assume all Homeless people are addicts to drugs/alcohol please.
He didn't make an assumption
I thought he had committed suicide like you said in Australia but also asphyxiation a polythene bag over his head ... I have a morbid interest because remember these people.. thanks
Tony was neurotic, over sensertive....everything hurt him....what's why he got rid of everyone....including himself! Genius has its flaws!
Willy Rushton was Tony Hancock's brother?!
No but Tonys brother wax his agent
@@MotorHomeBeepBeep Oh, now I see, thanks 👍
Apparently Tony Hancock was studying comparative religions to try to understand why he was funny . A very sad man considering the joy he brought to so many people .
Probably done SID JAMES a favour..bless this house..carry on films 🤷🤷
The guy sleeping on the bench: "probably on drugs and things". Could be! Or maybe he left his light on?
There was a Hancock episode where Hancock forgot to cancel and arrived back home after a holiday to find a bread and milk mountain outside his front door. Hancock was a Poncinello (a right funny fellow).
Don’t mean he’s on drugs because he’s homeless
He was on drugs i gave him some money for food.
See don't judge
So he's not mean so you should say sorry
@@emmajones5075 No he was on drugs that's why he had no money and that's why i said don't buy drugs buy food with the money i gave him. He said he would.
@@emmajones5075 Thank you Emma :-) Best Alan
It's sad that some people thake. There life's 😂
Donor not doner
Weird really I always thought he was so miserable 🤣 but I was only young he was a brilliant actor as I’ve seen now I’m olderI always think other people are clever and better lookin than me it’s how I am but I do try and stand tall 🤣 you do this so professionally do you live in the camper van or have you a house?
15:30
You sent
Hello June, I do hope you see yourself in a good light because that makes everybody else follow. If you think you're great, they think you're great....well sometimes ahah. I don't live in a campervan. I bought one a year ago but I spend a lot of time in it because I like to do films but I live in Whitby and Bradford the rest of the time. Thank you for the lovely comments, I really appreciate it. Take care, hope to see you again Alan PS keep standing tall.
You really have to stop making these videos...they’re too addictive! You’re also a really nice guy. I’d much rather watch your vids than some crap Hollywood blockbuster...Here’s to the next...
Thank you.
