I have a 2016 crew max. I added 15k in accessories after I paid it off. It is still like new. It will probably be passed to my grandson when he is 18 and shows himself trusted and respectful.
With my two kids I feel that my 1794 model Tundra from 2014 is perfect for my family. We do frequent road trips and some off roading it and this has been perfect. I can't imagine getting rid of it. Keep up the good content.
@@DavidFoundCo You don't do well with generalities do you? There's a couple 4.7s with a million miles and the 1st gens are only a few inches longer than Tacomas.
Thank you very much for comparing everything in detail, this video answered all my questions! I'm in the same boat as a recent dad of 2, the comparison for fitting rear facing carseats was superb. Congrats on your growing family! You gained a sub, keep up the great work.
I can fit 6 black and yellow containers side by side if I take the back seats out of my 2016 crewmax. I hauled a ton of stuff to Colorado for elk hunt 2021. More than needed.
I love how you had an idea, then said let’s get all the style Tundras. We are staring a new overland build and we just bought a 2020 Tundra Crewmax, moving from a 2012 Wrangler Unlimited. I have driving a wrangler for over 10 years. You forget what space and road comfort are really like.
The earlier 2nd gen crew max (07-13) has some rear underseat storage but the seat doesn’t fold up; and also has storage behind the rear seat. Another neat feature in the early second gen crew maxes is that the rear seat can slide forward/back, which allows the rear seat to recline a little. It seems they lost that feature during the facelift in the 14+ second gens. I like that the 3rd gen crew max rears fold up and forward, very nice ☺️🤙🏾
Going to get a CrewMax short cab limited w/ TRD Off-Road package in lunar grey. Thank you so much for your videos. I thought I wanted a double cab or std bed CrewMax but have decided on short CrewMax. Your videos have helped so much, especially this one! Apprentice.
One of your videos you showed your Claymore Ultra2 3.0 (X-Large) -I liked it and ordered one -very solid and useful to carry in my Gladiator for emergencies , camping or anything else I need it for -Thanks for the quick review
2nd gen crewmax here. I went with the locking long box aftermarket storage from ESP. It is great, but it is not as deep as that underseat storage in your 3rd gens
Depending on what you're doing, more middle hump in the back seat means the rear drive shaft is tucked up higher and you probably have more transfer case clearance
I have the 2020 1794 I modded out to a beautiful overlander blacked out I love my truck I of course had a few 3rd gen loaners over the last few years while Toyota was doing some miner repairs (stirring rack) on my 2nd gen I like the power of the 3rd gen but I love getting back into my 2nd gen after driving the 3rd gen it just feels smoother to drive and way more comfortable then the 3rd gen in my opinion .
Mike, it would have been cool too see the 1st gen. grouped with the tundra family, but tbh the 1st gen was like the T100 lineup when it comes to size. I have the. 02’ TRD sr5 AC cab 4wd w/ 6’ bed which to me is a just rt size for me & wife with occasional passenger 😀.
I own a 2017 double cab and let me tell you it’s a lot roomier than my previous double cab Tacoma! I had a rear facing car seat in the tundra no issues at all, Tacoma = horrible. That’s why I sold the taco and got the tundra. The 3rd Gen tundra double cab is a lot more comparable to the Tacoma backseat.
Where did space go from 2nd generation to 3rd generation double cab back seats. Cause i had second now just bought 3rd and was surprised how much smaller
25:57 I just checked.. The Goose gear seat delete for this gen adds massive amount of storage space.. Even if you just got the 60% seat delete you'd have WAY MORE storage than you do in the entire under seat storage of the current gen I think.
The power is cool - I don’t like that it doesn’t really improve fuel efficiency, and it completely kills the massive amounts of rear storage (which is one of the things I love about the Tundra). So overall, nah i don’t like it at all.
If you went with the hybrid it would look like the 2nd gen crew max under the backseat due to the batteries 😂. So there's that. Outside of aftermarket accessories, I'm so glad I bought a Titan Pro 4 x with (headrest tvs, heated and cooled front seats, heated rear, panoramic sunroof) for around 16k less than the comparable....ish Tundra with less options. Still wish I had a Tundra though, but the prices are out of control.
What made you buy 24’ platinum without trd or? Seems like you’ll be using this truck for mostly haul and family trips? You definitely gonna love crew cab. Are you still going to keep 22’ limited?
Good question - I might have got one with the TRD OR, but none were available from local dealers for awhile, and I needed to get going on this truck build asap. It won't be my main trail truck, so the 4x4 and LSD should be enough for my needs, hopefully. I'm selling the 22 - can't justify two trucks so similar at this price point.
As a 2021 TRD Pro double cab there are many things that disappointment me about the 3rd gen, but nothing disappointing me more than the super short extended cab. That is absolutely unacceptable how little leg room you have.
@@LastLineOfDefense love the truck. 2021. XLT with upgrade tech package. Of course it’s got the DB HD cover. Little concerned on the longevity of the Ecoboost. 26,000 no issues yet.
The first tundra was actually called a “T-100” and Ford didn’t like that because it was too close to its F150 so in Toyota made its next truck. They called it a tundra, making it the first Gen. Then they came out with the second GEN, which is the best tundra they ever made. Then they came out with the TRANS-GEN Which the ones you have here where they squared the bodies. And then they unfortunately came out with the new third Gens
Toyota completely cheeped out on the third generation and it shows in reduce functionality, which is the whole reason why you buy a pick up truck in the first place. The double cab has always been my favorite and why I bought a 2012 Limited. 6 1/2 foot bed room for five easily even with my 6 foot 240 frame driving
I don’t know why people keep calling those second GEN. A second GEN is 07 to 13. And those are the best tundras ever made. Then you get to the TRANS-GEN from 2014 and up where they squared the body style. Basically a 2.5 gen before the third GEN platinum where they got rid of the V8 motor. 2.5 is OK, but it just gets worse as the newer ones come out. luckily the 2.5 that you have here still has a V-8 but it still isn’t as good as the OG second GEN. You literally missing the best tundra which is 07 to 13 model. That’s the true second GEN.

I went from a 2021 Tacoma to a 2018 Tundra Crewmax when we had a child in 2022. No regrets at all! I’m driving this thing for a million miles.
The only bad thing about my 2018 is that I probably won’t be able to get another like it after this one goes

Enough room for a party back there!
Lol not even a competition, the Grey one crew max with the grandpa camper shell

great content, sold my 5.7 tundra for a 3.5 tacoma, do not need the extra room anymore, and loving the nimbleness of the little tacoma
It's a nice little truck no doubt!
Love my '19 Tundra SR5 double cab. I like to sleep in the bed on quick camping trips, and slept in it on the way to and from Alaska last year.
First gen is king!! 3rd gen taco size with v8 power. 4.7 is a million mile engine
Wrong! It’s the 5.7 with several million mile engines and my dad has the first gen tundra is much bigger than any Tacoma

Newer 2nd gen tundra double cab w/ 8’ bed. Massive truck for the ultimate truck hauling and loading experience. Awesome turning radius too!!

You should do a comparison between Talons new truck and your new truck! Love this video! Thanks Mike!
Talon's new truck is basically the green truck in this video, just totally stock (for now)
If they could have put the cabs of the 2nd gen on the 3rd gen platform plus have the 5.7 option that would have been perfect 👌

Thanks for the vid Mike. Clears up alot! Hoping to get into a Crewmax before I get too far into this F150 build. 😂
Gonna build up my 2008 crewmax soon 👌
Does the shifter in the 3rd gen jiggle or have any play in it? I test drove a 2022 and it had a lot of play, wasn't sure if that's normal.
Double cab 2G short bed for me; preferably in cement or Army green.
TUNDRA 2020 V8 5.7 I LOVE MY TOYO.
I own a 1st gen and in north of Denver
What backseat is better F-150 cab or Tundra crew max cab?
Gen1 DC! 😁
I think the rear of the crewmax could shrink 4 to 6 inches and add that to the bed it seems. Theres lots of space then theres just wasted space
2nd gen double cab for me. 2010, so before the facelift. It’s hard to beat the 5.7
👍💙🔥Can’t wait for the build. Great looking truck 🔥.
The 2nd Gen 07 to 13 has under seat storage I believe because they changed the back seat design in 14
Heard there is many issues with 3rd gen????

I like the green one better, but let's see what the new one looks like with a 6" lift
Double cab is just a regular cab with storage. One should immediately remove the seats and build a useful shelf system.
Yeah, unless you have kids… haha
First Gen the best Gen!
Didn't catch it, but can a rear facing car seat fit in the 2nd gen double cab?
Yes. I had one, and it was a bit tight since I an 6'3"... But the space is fine and the bed length great
Single cab = Nostalgic (especially w/ bench seat and arm around girl). Extended cabs = good looks and function. Crew cabs = suv w/ smol bed.
