I recently bought a 2021 Tundra TRD Pro. Your videos help familiarize me with the truck. Thank you.
The Toyota V8's will be highly sought after like the 90's Land Cruiser
I think the 4.7 V8 is THE Toyota truck engine. The 5.7 is a little overrated, still good though
I purchased a 2020 in the summer of 2019. I absolutely love it. Built it out for overlanding but nothing crazy. Very basic and very fun. I think I have about 20K miles on it so far!
Great video, thank you!
I just bought a super clean 2020 5.7 😂 40k miles …. Let’s goooo
What did you give on it? What trim level?
@@hankwilliams4509 sr5 voodoo blue for 38k
Score!!!
I have a 2019 Tundra crewmax i bought 3yrs ago. I’m keeping this truck forever!
@@CarolinaStreetKings for real
Got a 2007 5.7 tundra absolutely love it..
Great video! As a Toyota guy, I love this gen Tundra although I no longer own one (had three!). I would watch similar videos discussing other makes because I love trucks and learning the ins and outs of different platforms. Thanks for the content, subscribed!
I’ve been saying this. The Tundra does not need lockers.
Love this series idea. More please!!
Great video man! I look forward to watching more of these videos! I had no idea how many engine options the tundra had.
The "upgrades" rabbit hole needs to come with a disclaimer of it's completely dependent on what you'll be doing and whether or not you want to (and have the ability to) get the truck up on a lift to tune suspension and tinker with it. Even "easy" click adjusters can be a hassle for most people. Most upgrades aren't necessary anyhow as the vast majority of people won't ever be doing what you're showing in the video, so that money can be better put to use elsewhere. Also, people should keep in mind that tires are getting SUPER expensive (a new set of 35x12.5x18 Nitto Ridge Grapplers x 5 is around $2200!) so be sure you really, REALLY need something that big when a 32-33" will be more than just fine in the vast majority of cases, cost less, and will cause fewer fitting issues.
I have a 2013 CrewMax 4WD Tundra and my only complaint is not about the truck itself but the ability to purchase aftermarket parts. Many manufacturers begin their inventory at 2014. Something to consider if you are in the market for a Gen 2. Thank you Nate for another awesome vid!
This is a good point... out of curiosity what were you shopping for recently that they didn't have before 2014?
Yes! Please make more. Great video. Love the 2nd Gen Tundra platform.
I'm in my "regular cab, short bed" phase of life, and I wish there were more used 2nd Gen Tundra's in that spec. If I am daydreaming, then might as well wish for a TRD blower too.
Thanks for the great video Nate. I have the 2016 tundra platinum. It’s my overland rig n it’s takes me anywhere I go off grid. 🙏🏽
Love those trucks...
Thanks for making this video!
Love it! Great job. Couldn't agree more. One day could you cover the differences between 2 and 2.5 gen tundras? Me second gen is getting tired but I'm not sure I want to go to the 2.5 gen.
Thanks for the great video! I have an 08 but am thinking about going a tad newer with a 2016 Pro but glad to see this video either way!
Excellent video! Thank u very much!
Hi Nate! I think you missed a talking point unless I missed it. To my recollection one of the main reasons the Tundra got "trail cred" as an offroading full size is that it has 4,000 lb axles.
I don't own a Tundra so by all means let me know if I'm mistaken.
I just sold my 2014 SR5 and picked up a 2021 TRD Pro. They are the last great truck. No displacement-on-demand. No active fuel management. Minimal foo-foo electronics.
Cover the INEOS Grenadier!
Love our 2nd gen Fundra
Love it. More of these please
Definitely get a Toyota Sequoia on here! 2nd Gen
and this is why i bought a 17 tundra crewmax
This was awesome!
You look like you could be Connor mcgregors cousin
Great video, good info!
I have the 2.5 Gen Tundra. 2021...last of the good Tundras. Would love to see the 1st Gen Toyota Sequoia
Thanks!great job
Things can happen with Any car Company people!
When various members of the domestic big three were making mechanics out of hard working folks, Toyota provided simplicity and reliability instead of crazy frills!!
Toyota was global, before other car companies found it politically popular to collaborated with other global brands. Let Toyota do there processing to fix the problems!!
Great video thx!
Awesome video! Who made your rock sliders? I’ve got some from
C4 and like them.
Those are CBI… I like C4 stuff too, I run their bumpers.
Can you do a video on the 2nd Gen Nissan Titan? I have my YOTA but my Overlanding brother loves his Nissans. Its hard to find good content on this platform.
Power Wagon review?
Do you have a link for the kem tags?
Hey Nate, do you have aftermarket bump stops on your grey tundra? One of mine came off, and was wondering if i should upgrade(if so to what brand?) Or get oem ones. Mine has a 3 inch suspension lift and an icon ad a leaf leafspring pack. Any help is appreciated.
I never ran aftermarket bumps on that tundra... I was able to control bottom out pretty well with the bp51 internal bypass shocks just setting it right for the terrain.
Dura bumps makes some really good stuff... if you need to replace them cause one fell off already... I would check out their stuff.
This is a great video! I used to have a 2012 Tundra rock warrior(before the trd pro was a thing) I’m currently looking to buy another tundra. I definitely don’t want a new 3rd gen and I’m sure you know why lol. When I sold my tundra it had 100k miles and still felt new. I’m looking at some 2021 tundras and need your opinion. Most 2021 tundra pros run about 50-55k with 50k miles or less. I’ve seen one for sale for 39k but has 108k miles. If I buy the cheaper one I can start doing my overland build because of my money I’m saving. Would you buy a tundra with that many miles? CARFAX looks like it was well maintained.
Link for ABS sensor guards please! Great idea I didn’t think of this.

Gen 2 Nissan Xterra, please.
Yes absolutely! I really like these as flexible platforms... they check a lot of boxes.
Please do ram 1500 5th gen
So what years are considered 2nd gen? I was under the impression that 2007-2013 was the 2nd gen. The white tundra in this video is a 2014+ .
07 - 21
@@OutdoorAutogood to know thanks
2017 was the best year for these. It was the last year before the problematic/temperamental TSS system and embarrassing, non-functional hood scoop was introduced.
Watch the crash test reports on the Tundra and then move on to other options.
😂
Most full sized trucks mid trims and up have a limited slip. most trucks NOW come with an LSD basically as standard from what i've been looking at on the lots. Some even on the lower trims have selectable lockers for the rear. TCS is good but they arent locker or lsd good by any stretch of the imagination
I beg to differ. I had a first gen Tundra. It was a great truck. It had a limited slip rear dif. It was TERRIBLE. Always slipped when I didn't want it and never helped in the slightest when I hoped it would. The TCS on my 2nd gen is way better.
@@maxtwombly766 in the first two months of 2006 ford sold more F-150s then Toyota did that entire year. Just to put it into perspective, Toyota didnt have a LOT of incentive to put any sort of real effort into their trucks or their LSD's and which were clutched not geared so their lsd potential was...well bleh. On top of that just something like changing a battery went from a 30+ minute ordeal because of throttle relearns and such to a 5 minute ordeal also goes to show just how much tech went into the 2nd gen. Not just that but you didnt mention model years like an 06 1st gen has NOTHING on a 2020 tundra on is a first gen one is a second yet one is EONS above the other.
Anyway you spend less then a grand on a zip locker or geared LSD or "Auto locker"/"Auto unlocker" and it'll destroy any traction control system on any vehicle...There is a reason you dont see scoobarus on hells gate everyday and the ones that are there are there to be destroyed and beat on like it owes them money.
What headlights are you running on that tundra ?
Good video, im surprised you didn't touch on the brakes. If you only drive mild terrain they're good. If you load up you're tundra and drive down grades they SUCK, BAD. they overheat quickly. Ive had this happen 3 times. Im shopping for aftermarket front rotors n pads... any recommendations? Thanks
Hah... I had breaks in the original edit but since Ihaven't tested alternatives I pulled it out... I keep hearing PowerStop Brakes has a good option... but I need to look into it
@@OutdoorAuto thank you very much!
2010 RAV4
just made me love my 2017 Pro even more. great vid.
Best all around truck you can buy
I knew the first day I bought my 2014 Tundra I was never getting rid of it.
I still have my 2015 Tundra. It's NOT going anywhere, I love it.
I’m keeping mine forever
One of the best most honest no BS review Ive ever seen on any vehicle. Thank you! Great job!
Awesome video. It was nice seeing how it performed with the narration with it! Great job
Not sure if worthy of it's own video, but my unconventional offroader is my 2500 chevy avalanche. 8.1L powered with a full float 14 bolt. The back wall folds down in the avalanche so you can camp inside your cab below your tonneau covers. It’s perfect for me!
My dad had one w the 8.1 beast. Cool truck
Thanks for the awesome video. I just purchased a 2021 Toyota tundra with only 8000 miles and your video was quite inspiring. And your tundra build looks incredible. You have a great RUclips channel Please keep up the good work.
On my 2023 Tacoma TRD OR ACLB I’m planning to put on sliders, and 0mm offset wheels to mount 255/85R16 C range (if I can find C) tires. The lift will come later unless I get the high clearance fender kit and cut up and relocate everything to keep stick suspension
CONS?.....what cons....done right this truck is indestructible.....never mind the legendary reliability and room galore.....what else can you ask for?
I have a 2020 Pro with a Harrop supercharger. I would pay boatloads for a reliable 10 speed to match that horsepower for interstate mountainous towing. The 6 speed is meh….
2021 tundra sr. Named it Black Ostrich cause it's black and 2wd. Commuter and occasional trails.
Very good video. Learned some things! My only hell no is the BP51 suspension.
can you do a toyota sienna? im currently stuck between getting a tundra or a sienna. i live in alaska and i want a car that i can bring passengers in and primarily use as a adventure vehicle. i work as a expedition guide so not alot of daily driving for me
Great Video - thanks for all the hard work. I have a 2017 Tacoma and wanted to go for a Tundra but like the rest of us not sure about the latest version. If I can find a decent used one, the 2nd Gen is probably the best bet for now. Keep them coming and thanks again!
15:24 the Crew Max is the room model and the one with complete roll down back window
Love this series! I know a lot of the form factor will be the same as a Tundra, but I would like to see you do the F150 (not Raptor). I have a 2019 with coyote V8. Super duty review would be cool too.
I have a 2008 tundra limited. I bought it at 100k miles. I have 155k on it now and I have spent $35.00 in necessary repairs. That is not including of course maintenance costs like oil, filters, tires. I am a big fan of Jeep Gladiators, so if you want to do a video on them, that would be awesome! This was a great video!
I love my 2021 TRD prd overland build. Thank you for this video
Great video! I’ve done sliders and tires on my 2019. Now I’m itching to do suspension and front bumper!
I’d like to see one of these on a 12th gen (09-14) F-150
Love my 2021, even though it is a fuel slut
Great content. A lot of useful information as always. Thanks for the videos you make. Awesome work!
My 2021 tundra has slightly appreciated some crazy way. From when i bought it a year ago
17:04 you just need a big enough round hole
Very informative 👍🏿👌🏿🫶🏿
More please... have always loved your channel. Always informative...
Another great video! Bought my 18 Tundra last year after being more of a 4Runner guy and wish I had bought a Tundra 15 years ago. I went straight to 37s too because anything this big should have 37s! They're small BFG 37s though. 2.5" lift and they clear everything but sway bar when turning very hard left or right. But rubbing is racing
37s not rubbing? No cutting?
@JsaephanhMienMusic with the +35 Methods they rub the sway bar at full lock. I should ditch the sway bar but haven't gotten around to it. I hit the body mounts with the grinder also but a couple of trips and the only rubbing I had with the rear wheel well liners. The tires just touch when fully stuffed.
Do one on the 2019-2023 Ford Ranger please!
More, please. Thanks for the hard work and always informative formatting.
I like this new series!
Thoughts on kings 2.5 suspension?
Love the content. The score I give for this format is a five.... send it❤!!!
Similar, but the Gen 2 sequoia!
More of these videos, SEND IT!
great video!
2nd and or 3rd gen Frontier?
Nissan Xterra is under rated truck when come to overland build rig.
I’m a big fan of Titan swapped Xterras
Good vid
Great review, and quite helpful. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful
Great video. Good idea for a series. Would love to see more.
Good info. Nate. Thanks again. I was wondering if they are still fixing the rusted frame recalls on 2009 models?
I think all the frame recalls have timed out at this point... but I am not positive.
Does it need to be a TRD pro or does a SR5 with 4x4 gonna do for most people?
I for the most part get the lower trims and then customize to my actual use.
Really enjoyed those! Well done!
I like your scoring system
Platform for reviews: 2nd Generation Colorado Z71. Not the ZR2, as there have been many builds with that platform. I have 2015 Colorado Z71 Crew Cab Long Bed and have wondered this.
Second gen Tundras are great, and I love my 2007 with 210,000 miles. However, they are pretty big which really limits them off road, especially with their width, break over angle, and weight. They are your typical fat pig full size truck, great for work and some mild off roading.
Id love to see some other vehicles that people may not immediately assume for adventures. Like GMC Sierra, or Hummers, or Subaru Outback. Create a grading system and allow us viewers to compare the different scores.
We will definitely seek out some none "standard" options.... Subarus are a great example.... pretty solid for camping and overland... Amazing in the snow.
@@OutdoorAuto Some more soft roader would be good like 2nd Gen Ridgeline
Any videos on fitting a 35 tire under for spare.
They fit fine… you have to drill out these small tabs that hold smaller tires in place
You briefly spoke about the traction control of the Tundra, and I'm wondering if you could go into more detail about it. Which traction mode should I be in? How do I activate it? When should I change it?
Really Awesome video and I don't even own a Toyota, I didn't buy a 2nd Gen Tundra because I needed a truck to haul my FWC Grandby. So I bought a 2nd Gen gas powered Dodge 2500 & I really really like my Dodge other than the 6 mpg going through the mountains. Thank you for creating Super Duper Awesome videos, you really do an amazing job of making videos.
Would love your thoughts on my beloved '90s suburban! Or the new kids on the block (Gladiator, Branco)
