In the U.S., we don’t have the Hilux, we have the Toyota Tacoma but I feel like both the Toyota and the Ford are really good trucks.

Wow, the Hilux really let itself go.... as an American I love the ole Hilux pickup trucks, but not too big of a fan of the new ones, even if we did get them here in the states.
06 - 15 were very good utes. After that it’s sorta started going downhill

Litre I can tell you the 3.2 is very reliable so don’t tell me hiluxes are the best because of their reliability, heck the new ones have piss poor def systems so yeah
@ChristopherH they’re gutless, not as reliable, not built as well, and overpriced. Toyota is living off its reputation at this point not its actual product
They’re both good. Here in Argentina both models are being produced. But the maintenance costs on the hilux are significantly lower. Another thing to point out is the build quality, and reliability on long term use, which favors the Toyota by a huge margin.
If you’re going to use them as family oriented daily drivers (as we use them here), they’re both great.
I’d take the Toyota over the Ford just because of resale value.

Toyota and build quality are totally on opposite ends of the spectrum. Toyoda's are terribly built.

@@kdrapertruckerperhaps that’s your experience, I’ve had many Toyotas (hilux and Corolla) since 1995, and the only one that was actually bad, was a 2006 Mercosur Corolla, which had many quality issues. But in terms of reliability, I can’t be more pleased with the other models
As someone who owns the allegedly "bad injector" 2006 hilux with now over 360,000ks with only an alternator crapping itself versus my stepfathers very late model ranger with less than 200,000ks and a transmission and engine failure to its name think ill keep my shitty lux thanks.

I've been running it with high sulphur diesel for years and still doing good
i changed the fuel filter every 5000km
and deleted the dpf,egr, and chip tuned it it get around 190hp (140hp stock)
the old hilux was the "indestructable truck"

The Colorado and Tacoma look way better, the Ranger looks like s Subaru.
The new Hilux isn't that bad. It's fuel efficient 2.8 litre 4 cylinder diesel engine with 204hp. Not that powerful but it has 500nm. Also has passed the moose test and alot better than before.

I've owned two Rangers and am currently on a Hilux. Objectively speaking and without resorting to schoolyard arguments like "Ford is shit" etc... They are both good trucks. There's a reason there are so many around. They are both superior work vehicles compared to the pavement princess Amarok and Mercedes pickups that grab the headlines for power outputs but which aren't as rugged commercially or in off road situations.
I really liked my Rangers. The old 3.2 five pot. Lots of character to the engine. Pulled well. Better than my 3.0 Hilux on highway. But in just about every other way the Hilux is better. In 40k miles my Ranger needed a new transfer case, front diff seal, crank seal and the engine had a weird hesitation which even Ford couldn't diagnose. The Hilux just ticked over 40k (same model the Top Gear guys took to the North Pole) and literally everything works on it. No faults, and that's with off road use and carrying railway sleepers. It'll take some abuse for sure.

Huh, that’s strange, our ranger is still going strong at 300 thousand kms and we constantly tow heavy loads with it and it’s only issue is it occasionally kicks down quite aggressively randomly around town

We used to design and build fords in Australia, they were called falcons, there were and still are plenty of these cars with well over a million kilometres on them, they were the preferred taxis because they were considered indestructible, but ford along with Toyota and General Motors shut down our car industry.

I'm genuinely stuck on what one I want to buy. The Tacoma is a tried and tested truck, holds its value and will pretty much last forever the ranger seemed to be holding its own so far. We just got the ranger back in Canada after a decade and it's a nice truck.
Both are really good, I choose a Ranger just because for me looks better.

Second gen Toyota usually last around 500,000 miles so I've been told by my co-workers that own them before they need a rebuild of the engine I think Rangers well at least my old Ranger had 350000 miles before it was totaled by another truck but that was a 1994 Ford Ranger the newer 2003 Ford Ranger that I had that was a V6 3.0 that I recently sold that had 250,000 miles on it gave me one problem that was inside the engine but it was still able to run it's power though was a bit crippled so I decided to fix it and have him in the shop a part of the engine was cracked I believe it was the top part or something but it cost me 1400 2 fix up which was the most expensive repair I had done on the truck besides the 1200 catalytic converter all for pooped out on me at 230000 miles unfortunately I didn't deal with the research when I bought that newer Ranger that the 3.0 V6 had the most problems the 4.0 and then the four cylinder where the better choices for reliability I know drive a Toyota Tacoma X runner 2008 and honestly I couldn't have picked a better fun truck to drive as a daily as I do highway driving in a bit of mountain driving and I love the curves and hairpin turns especially with the x-brace suspension that the X Runner is known for but there is a big difference in cost between my old truck in my new X-Runner my old truck I bought for $5,000 120000 MI my new truck I bought for $14,000 that had 133000 miles
