    happy friday soju shotties!! I just wanted to pop in and say THANK YOU for 20K on RUclips 🥹🥹🥹 we’ve been growing our soju fam one shottie at a time and I’m so happy to see all the new faces here ❤ today’s episode is about hobbies because we got a lot of questions about how we found our passions and hobbies in our 20s, so buckle up for a fun episode!
    also if you notice, we have our first sponsor in this week’s episode! thank you lingoda and thank you all of our soju shotties for allowing us to work with such cool brands ~ as you can probably guess, we’ve made no money in the last three months and while this is a huge passion project that doesn’t necessarily require profit, we’ve actually been at a financial loss since we do pay all our creatives! (folks who we work with for our animations, logos, edits, etc. behind the scenes 🙂) so we’re very happy to be growing out our lil pod and to be able to fund even more fun things as we upgrade our setup & production ~~
    so thank you for being here as we navigate the small milestones & upgrades in our cozy little podcast - sending love & wishing the best week ahead for each and every one of you 🥰

    i just have to mention, your pod is my go-to to listen when i'm knitting since the first episode i saw, probably not your intention but the intermission is actually just the perfect timming for stretching so my wrists dont hurt later. uh, as also a serial hobbyist, i have tried many (crochet, knitting, bead jewelry, coking, sewing, air drying clay, writting, notebook making, dancing, translating, etc) and i like doing them all (not at once, of couse) but here are some that i'm interested in trying in the future: juggling, swimming, quilting, hiking, scape room making/planning and some group sport

    Last year, I learned how to solve a Rubik’s cube. This year, I’m learning “speed cubing” methods and have bought my very own speed cube! It’s been a lot of fun for me, I’ve recently made a new online friend who also is about the same level as I am (they’re a friend of a good friend of mine).
    My best time is currently 29.80s, but with this new method I’ve drastically slowed down as I’m learning more and more algorithms. The eventual goal is to have a new personal best 😅

    I'm really passionate about learning languages. Getting to travel and immerse yourself in cultures you didn't grow up in, learn new traditions and customs, try new foods, meet new people you couldn't otherwise speak to, attach new concepts to your thoughts that you dont get with only one language (like how German has words to describe things that we only have concepts for in English: schadenfreude, to describe joy in others misfortune, angeschlagen to say you're coming down with an illness etc), or even gaining access to hobbies that are social norms, that in your culture dont exist (like learning salsa or bachatta while travelling in LATAM, where as in England there isn't that same dance culture)
    I also love going on drives, having a nice car helps, but having the windows down with your music playing and just driving is really therapeutic. Both these hobbies blend into travel though...

    Sarah have you ever considered switching into UX design? Do you ever feel imposter syndrome / feel that you are less technical than those who have grown up loving STEM? I am also a software engineer who grew up loving art, and sometimes I feel imposter syndrome when talking to those who code as their hobby in addition to their job, for example, and would love to hear your thoughts!

    • @sojuwithsarah
      @sojuwithsarah  3 месяца назад +2

      I definitely have!! I thought I would eventually move into UX but never made that leap because I started doing YT as my creative outlet and that takes up a lot of my time ~ but now that you mention it, i’ve one HUNDRED percent experienced the the imposter syndrome as a less technical person!! i do enjoy my job but also find myself strapped between being the technical gal & talking to my peers about coding projects vs wanting to find the artistic side & creativity in what i do! it’s an interesting form of imposter syndrome but in another life id imagine myself having spent the time i do on YT in actually transitioning into UI/UX 😅 (although i did tell my manager i wanted to work on more product/frontend earlier in my career)
