  • From the U.S. tour that never made it to Broadway--L.A. 2000.
Panaro is playing the title role and singing the title song.
"Martin Guerre" was from the writers of "Les Miz" and "Miss Saigon."

Hugh has always been exceptional. First saw him as Marius in Les Miz on Broadway many years ago. His performance and voice is something special. Thanks for sharing this!!

I was a child actor/extra at the North American Guthrie Theater premiere production, and I loved hearing Hugh sing this every night for weeks.

Very rarely you see a musical theatre performance that’s simply on another level; one that’s so moving and/or intense you’re simply left in awe. This is one of those performances.

Still one of my favorites. I'll always be heartbroken this didn't get the cast recording it deserved. I saw it three times in L.A. Hugh Panaro, Stephen Buntrock as Arnaud, Jose Llana as Guillaume. Just brilliant.

I saw Martin Guerre original cast in London. I loved the production! I bought the cast recording and I expected the show would come to the US just as Les Miz did. I had wondered why that never happened. Then I saw the changes made to the show for the US. It explains it all. The show should be restaged in its original form. Very powerful statement on human nature.

John Benson I saw it in London too and I could not agree more. That production with Iain Glenn was sooooo good.

My real dream is to see the Olivier Award version of the show revived with my daughter (presently training to do musical theatre) as Bertrande. A father can dream, no?

John Benson Oh man. Having one of my kids go in to musical theater would be a dream come true for me! I am OBSESSED. The first time I went to NYC I dragged my husband to 8 shows in 5 days.... :) Congrats on having a child pursuing it!!! That is divine.

I've been hooked since being coaxed by a girl in middle school to join the chorus and was cast as Lun Tha in The King and I (two girls from our cast went on to have Musical Theater careers). Many years later, I coaxed my daughter to do a community theater version of the King and I in which we were cast in the ensemble and she was asked to dance the lead character in the House of Uncle dance number. Once you're bit you can't get it out of your system ;)

Saw it 2x in London back in early 1997. Original cast. I own the original cast recording I bought at the Theater. Glad they are bringing this one back, and I hope they stick with the original production. It'd be very timely in today's world.

I saw this live! I was so blown away by his performance that I never forgot it. I'm so lucky to have seen this live up close and so glad someone recorded this! After the show I waited for him to sign my program. The whole cast came out, but i totally forgot to say hi to anyone else. Only after did i realize how awkward they stood there as i swooned over Hugh and didn't even acknowledge them lol. I mean they were all incredible and the most talented cast i've ever seen together. But even so, Hugh was a standaout. Thanks for posting!
