He is the most awesome Phantom ever. You really have to hear him perform this at the Majestic. His Point of No Return gives me chills every time I hear him sing it. His voice is so beautiful.
i'm gonna be honest. with most phantoms you can recognize them with or without phantom makeup. but hugh, i almost didnt believe thats how he looks without makeup. he looks COMPLETELY different with and without
Each phantom has their own unique voice. I know in the book, it said that he had a dark quality to his voice, but his voice is supposed to light and angelic as well.
Actually, I recently went to see Phantom on Broadway on November 6th. This recording REALLY does him no justice. He was absolutely fantastic. Still one of the best to play Phantom, at least in my opinion.
No disrespect to the beautiful Norm Lewis, but I'm having trouble getting over this man. I wish he could have stayed in the role indefinitely. To me, he IS the phantom. Never a better fit since Michael Crawford.
I just saw him two weeks ago, a Thursday night show, and was completely blown AWAY. Hugh is a flawless phantom- to say he nails his every performance is an understatement. I need my entire family to see him as Phantom when we get to go to NYC together!
Absolutely fabulous! As always! Saw Hugh perform live at the 25th Anniversary performance of POTO on January 26, 2013. Blew my hair back, baby. We're going back in 2 weeks!!
I saw him preform as the Phantom last night and I couldn't stop shaking. That voice is... How... The amount of control he has is ridiculous and his voice beautiful, only word for it.
Mr. Panaro has a wonderful voice, a great technique and a very big heart! Every time he is exactly the character he is playing in every tones... He is the perfect singer!
Hugh Panaro is absolutely fabulous. We met him backstage when we saw the show. My son was going to be Phantom in his high school production. He was so kind and generous. I am a fan!
Really impressed...I was lucky to be at New York last March and I saw the performance...You are all great, especially bravo to Mr.Panaro who was there...I feel really blessed...Bravi a tutti!!!
he is definitely the best.... i saw him on broadway this summer... i was simply amazed by the range of his voice, his skill to act and sing so perfectly and subtly. he has such an amazing voice and spirit on stage!!!! run to see him at the majestic :))) thank you for sharing this video..
According to Playbill, Hugh will have his last show as Phantom on April 29th. However Hugh will return to the role Aug 26th. Was depressed when I thought he was leaving for good.... He is such a great Phantom and I adore him!
I am envious of his voice more than anyone else in the world. If I could have anyone's voice, it would be his. I was in New York a few days ago and I had to go see Phantom. I was really skeptical before, but then I saw it, and it was great, and Hugh's voice was easily the best part of it. Wish I could see it again.
i saw hugh panaro earlier in march!!! he is amazing and i won't hesitate to take a 30 hrs flight to nyc to see him as phantom again... omg... i am soo mesmerized by him...
I JUST saw saw the Phantom of the Opera today, and while its the only on-Broadway show I've seen, it was amazing, especially the last three numbers. Hugh is an amazing Phantom
AHHH! I can't believe this! Just saw him a couple weeks ago for the second time in Phantom (first time was in early 2005) when I was in New York. He's just brilliant! I so wish I could've been there for this!
Does he flub the last line a little, and say "the music of the ni... night?" I honestly can't tell if that's just an extension of "the" or him starting to sing the final word. So glad I was there for this performance though.
actually JOJ has a tone of a Baritone singer and is classed mostly as a baritone singer with the capabilities of a tenor range. he just has a massive range so I can see why people class him bass
I was bummed when John Cudia left, because I wanted to see him, but I live in LA. and its tuff getting to NY. when I saw that Hugh Panaro took the role.. I knew its in more than good hands. :)
Is that the one with him and Trista Moldovan? How was it? I'm a bit hesitated because I'm a hugh fan of Ramin as Phantom and Hugh's interpretation of is a bit too freaky ... I'm going to see the NYC POTO next week.
Amazing as always. I loved him in Lestat where I first heard of him. When I found out he was the Phantom....I freaked. Bring in Drew Sarich too and that would be epic.
So idk what youre talking about. If you look on playbill.com at the breakdown of characters for the show in their auditions section it clearly says that the Phantom is a High Baritone or tenor (with good low range). This is from the casting director of the bway production and "bass" is nowhere mentioned
OK guys... From Australia, going to New York for 4 nights. Must see Phantom while I'm there. This guy sounds awesome! We had Anthony Warlow (and while nothing now can beat him) I reckon this guy has just won my decision to go see phantom on broadway! So... try to respond in an awesome way, take than fan girlism away and let me know... compared to Michael Crawford... (this guy does sing a lot like him... love that) and others... is the expensive broadway worth it? It's this or Lion King. xD
Your comment makes no sense. You say that the Phantom should be a bass with a low voice range, yet say we need John Owen Jones back. It doesnt make sense b/c JOJ is a Tenor just like Hugh, and the majority of the men who have played the role. The only baritones, not basses (there are no real bass roles in MT like there are in opera) that have played the role on bway are Steve Barton, John Cudia, and Howard McGillin (his voice had darkened to a baritone voice at the time he sang the role).
He's ten times better on Broadway. I saw the movie (2004 version) first, which got me hooked on the Phantom. Later, I saw him perform on Broadway in the Phantom of the Opera, and it was something I could never get over. His voice was just stunning! Perfect! I have searched every Phantom and I think Ramin is incredibly but his voice can't compare to this! Ramin mastered the emotions the Phantom needs while Hugh has the voice! Either way, both are amazing!
He is the most awesome Phantom ever. You really have to hear him perform this at the Majestic. His Point of No Return gives me chills every time I hear him sing it. His voice is so beautiful.
i'm gonna be honest. with most phantoms you can recognize them with or without phantom makeup. but hugh, i almost didnt believe thats how he looks without makeup. he looks COMPLETELY different with and without
Hugh Panaro is so handsome! Very charming voice. I saw him in The Phantom of the Opera in Broadway. Had a blast !
He just came and preformed at my college! OH MY GOSH! He is an amazing singer. I was completely speechless afterward.
I would sell my soul to become this man's Christine. I saw him almost a year ago and I'm still madly obsessed. To me, he is the only Phantom.
No disrespect to the beautiful Norm Lewis, but I'm having trouble getting over this man. I wish he could have stayed in the role indefinitely. To me, he IS the phantom. Never a better fit since Michael Crawford.
yup
LOVE his phantom
I just saw him two weeks ago, a Thursday night show, and was completely blown AWAY. Hugh is a flawless phantom- to say he nails his every performance is an understatement. I need my entire family to see him as Phantom when we get to go to NYC together!
Such a great range. His voice has a higher range than any other Phantom I've heard... LOVE IT.
holy crap....his range is phantastic!!!
How... The amount of control he has is ridiculous and his voice beautiful, only word for it.
beautiful voice, now we know he really sings like an angel. the play is recorded. Adorable Hugh with those sunglasses. Like your outfit.
A special man, soul deep, heart large, voice of an angel.... thank you for sharing your talent. :)
Mr. Panaro has a wonderful voice, a great technique and a very big heart! Every time he is exactly the character he is playing in every tones... He is the perfect singer!
I saw him on our school trip to New York. Well worth the eight hour ride and money spent.
I met Hugh Panaro right after his show one night in 2012, and he was an incredible person.
Hugh Panaro is absolutely fabulous. We met him backstage when we saw the show. My son was going to be Phantom in his high school production. He was so kind and generous. I am a fan!
I feel so lucky I got to see him sing this on Broadway! Love you Hugh!
I saw his phantom 2 days ago... Amazingly touching
Saw him on Broadway in NYC on April 26th 2012, this voice is perfection and falsettos are breathtaking!!
The most gorgeous phantom, I love you Hugh. And what a cautivating voice! I Would definitely fall just with the voice!
Really impressed...I was lucky to be at New York last March and I saw the performance...You are all great, especially bravo to Mr.Panaro who was there...I feel really blessed...Bravi a tutti!!!

I get to see him just before he leaves. I'm so excited to see this show!
he is definitely the best.... i saw him on broadway this summer... i was simply amazed by the range of his voice, his skill to act and sing so perfectly and subtly. he has such an amazing voice and spirit on stage!!!! run to see him at the majestic :)))
thank you for sharing this video..
I saw him on the 27th...just absolutely brilliant. I wish I could see him one more time before his contract ends.
According to Playbill, Hugh will have his last show as Phantom on April 29th. However Hugh will return to the role Aug 26th. Was depressed when I thought he was leaving for good.... He is such a great Phantom and I adore him!
I saw it yesterday; I loved his take on the Phantom! And his voice was lovely. :)
Intoxicating voice. ❤️
What a amazing preformance out in the park... He was great!!!!
Beautiful...
Hugh is my favorite. Have seen him Twice

i saw hugh panaro earlier in march!!! he is amazing and i won't hesitate to take a 30 hrs flight to nyc to see him as phantom again... omg... i am soo mesmerized by him...
Saw him as the Phantom last October, when I came to new York for the holiday. He was AMAZING. Oh, and it's his birthday today!
I saw his penultimate show (with a particular company) on Saturday. Absolutely fantastic.
I saw him I fell in love
I JUST saw saw the Phantom of the Opera today, and while its the only on-Broadway show I've seen, it was amazing, especially the last three numbers. Hugh is an amazing Phantom
The first Phantom I saw on Broadway!
Saw him in Phantom recently--fantastic. He deserves to be the Phantom for the 25th anniversary Broadway performance.
AHHH! I can't believe this! Just saw him a couple weeks ago for the second time in Phantom (first time was in early 2005) when I was in New York. He's just brilliant! I so wish I could've been there for this!
i would sell my soul to see him live
Saw Hugh Dec 2011. Although he is not my favorite Phantom, I loved the show and he was wonderful.

@cutypie12 At present, Hugh is committed to Phantom through December 3, 2011.

Does he flub the last line a little, and say "the music of the ni... night?"
I honestly can't tell if that's just an extension of "the" or him starting to sing the final word. So glad I was there for this performance though.
Really incredible delivery and performance. One of the all-time greatest Phantoms! What a wonderful day this was.
@truepixartronphan Well, the show, and I loved him as the Phantom.
wow i love him he sounds so soothing and not so powerful he sings so beautiful
actually JOJ has a tone of a Baritone singer and is classed mostly as a baritone singer with the capabilities of a tenor range. he just has a massive range so I can see why people class him bass

@flyersphan94 do you know when it ends?
I was bummed when John Cudia left, because I wanted to see him, but I live in LA. and its tuff getting to NY. when I saw that Hugh Panaro took the role.. I knew its in more than good hands. :)

***HUGH*** -333
DID YOU JUST CALL JOHN OWEN JONES A BASS? OH MY GOD. I CAN'T BREATHE.
Seen the phantom in new York 3 days ago :)
He may not be my favorite Phantom, but his rendition of Music of the Night is brilliant! Respect of Panaro, please.
Amazing as always. I loved him in Lestat where I first heard of him. When I found out he was the Phantom....I freaked. Bring in Drew Sarich too and that would be epic.
Does anyone know who will be doing the Phantom in May of this year? I'm going, and I thought it would be him but since it isn't...?

I bow down to your mastery of sunglasses
OK guys... From Australia, going to New York for 4 nights. Must see Phantom while I'm there. This guy sounds awesome! We had Anthony Warlow (and while nothing now can beat him) I reckon this guy has just won my decision to go see phantom on broadway!

Peter Joback, the Swedish actor who played the role in London last year.
Sheesh, this is excellent.
