I was told some really good wisdom when it comes to fear of using art materials. "The only way that art materials can go to waste is if they go unused" and I really try to make that my motto now. These turned out so cute :)
I absolutely love these… I attempted with just pastel pencils (lol I also got impatient) with a CALICO cat so the shading was super difficult for me but was a great exercise. I ordered some markers today 😊

I always ask myself "omgggggg why are you using these colors??? how do you choose them? how do you know what color to use??????" and it's so wonderful,,,, like i would never use teal/green to shadow the things, orrr the part you used the pinkish tone to "base color" the last cat.... like, HOW do you know what color to use and where........ and everything turns out so gorgeous everytime!!!!!! I trully admire you and love your art
I related to this video so much! I just started mixing markers in with my colored pencils in the last year and I’m still working on the balance but you’re right it is sooo much faster. I also started hiding the strathmore tan paper and it’s my absolute favorite! Also I am obsessed with these cats!
I’m thinking of re-doing a painting of my tuxedo cat Mickey that I never liked, this is very inspirational because I know I want his fur to look soft, but I haven’t quite decided on a medium.
*Hey, i use an X-Acto knife to sharpen my coloured pencils and they last forever that way, plus you can get them way sharper with an X-Acto knife when you come with a pencil sharpener*

What is your paper of choice when you do your marker/ pencil mixed media art? I do this combo, but I’ve only used marker paper. Is this a smooth bristol? I’ve always been weary of using non-specific marker paper because I’ve heard that this anything else sucks your markers dry rather quickly. Has that been an issue for you?
