  • Setting up for Montessori at Home but don’t know where to start? Searching for ways to set up a practical Montessori home for a baby or toddler that’s not going to break the bank? Take a tour of our toddler Montessori home, including the bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, and entryway, to get an idea of how to create Montessori spaces set up to foster a toddler’s independence! I hope a look at how we Montessori at Home gives you the tools you need to start a Montessori home as well!
We go room by room to cover all the necessities we have worked up to in the past 15 months, as well as things we have chosen to leave out for now! (You may be surprised to hear our take on the infamous Montessori floor bed!). Many of the changes we have made to our Montessori home setup were simple DIY projects or adjustments to existing pieces of furniture. There is no one single right way to Montessori at home. If you love the aesthetic and cohesive look of buying premade kits from one store, that is absolutely fine! If you prefer to piece together baskets, step stools, mirrors, and decor, from thrift stores, that is also wonderful! Take what you see in our Montessori home setup as inspiration and a source of ideas of what you may do in your space, and make it your own!
Be it your Montessori kitchen, a Montessori bedroom, or a Montessori bathroom setup, as long as you are providing your child with some form of independence and autonomy in the way that works for your home, then you too have a true Montessori home!

Love how you converted nursery shelf into wardrobe. Giving her a chance to choose out of few items to wear is also a great idea. Stella's kitchen is super cute, especially her fridge 😍. No wondering that she is so independent. A lot of work for you now, but your life will be much easier in a future. 💖💖💖

Thank you 🥰 She really enjoys all of her little spaces-it is so fun to see how her mind works! Definitely a lot of work but very worth it. The more freedom she has, the happier she becomes 🤗

Thank you Tara! I remember one of the first videos of yours I saw was your Montessori home tour, and I couldn't stop thinking about the little fridge after that. 🥰 So helpful to see what other mamas are doing!

Aaaahh i was waiting for this. I got the wardrobe and wanted to do the havk ashley did but with a tension rod yet i ws reluctant using the rod for the reasons you described exactly. So i am looking around now for the right size bar now.
Looove that polka dot outfiiit soh cyuute i need to get more dots now that Huda started noticing and saying which clothes have dots.
The issue with snacks for us is that Huda fired not eat much and seems to be oksy with just a few bites the nurse reasured me that it is normal and get weight has akways been a little lower than the average but snacks between meals are not an option for her.
Awwhhh cyuuute the practical life shelf is a good idea i didn't put any pouring activities wiping washing fruits etc in her own shelf so this helps because she can't say the words to tell me i think she's thirsty but actually she wants thr pouring activity hahahaha lovely little shelf
Bless Stella She's too busy has so much to do hahaha.
Can i just ask how you're feeling with the independent play in moments where she can't join you in what you're doing like cooking with heat or she isn't interested in the tak you are doing but you need to do it without her. Huda has stated to just wander off to her shelf nowwe but after a while of giggling at the signs she makes i hear her footsteps nearing. Somtimes im impressed but i really think i have trouble with not being able to guide her through activities so she stays on one activity for longer than just going through each shift a few times. Or perhaps that's okay for this age and my expectations should be realistic

Yes foregoing the tension rod here was very important I think! I'm not sure if we will keep the tension rod in the entryway. She is becoming more gentle with the hangers, but we are moving into puffy jacket season 🤔
The practical life shelf has been great for us! I never had a way of knowing if she wants to practice those skills otherwise. I noticed the past week she is so concentrated on practicing pouring with the suction cup toys we have, and at the same time, she has been glued to the pouring tray on that shelf too! It's amazing how they'll get immersed in one skill and keep going and going 🥰
Our independent play varies. Sometimes I can be in the kitchen long enough to cook and clean and she will be immersed in a couple activities (sometimes even putting them back herself!). Those are the amazing days. A lot of times she will work a bit with one thing or another, and then hear something fun where I am, come to check it out for a bit, get that out of her system, and go back to playing 😅 FOMO is so strong with them at this age! This happens a lot with laundry. It's her favorite activity but sometimes she is too into her playtime to pay attention, so I just start sorting. Within seconds, she's crawling into the hamper to pull clothes out. Some days she will strick with it, and others she just wanted to pull a couple out, and then runs away again 🤣 With their lack of impulse at this age, I'm really not surprised.
I do find that she works a lot better with an activity fully when I am present in the room with her, even if I'm not playing WITH her. There's the comfort of me being nearby and also the lack of distraction of me doing literally anything else. So I try to carve out time where we can both be in her room, work through whatever she is into, and then I let her have independent playtime where she is welcome to bounce between joining me and going back to her task. I try to engage her in my task if she joins or be careful not to distract her if she doesn't, but it's totally OK at this age if she wants to do some back and forth. The only non negotiable is we do not leave the playroom a mess. I prefer for her to put back whatever activity before joining me, so we can get into that habit of "one activity at a time", but it doesn't always happen. Their concentration and impulse control will develop with time!

@@MariaandMontessori ooooh those bath toys are great so many schemas in one go so many skills and its all in water this was the thing that got her more comfortable with water on her head promoting her to do it herself with the toy.
Also thaaaank you for going into such detail that is like a description of our day and actuallywhen you said FOMO i was thinking of myself missing out on her activities buuuut this is so important for us to also get used to giving them privacy sometimes in a safe prepared environment. I know that was a difficult thing for many parents so they end up feeling a right to know what thier child is doing or did or felt at every moment of the day and can lead to dangerous controlling behaviours or having your emotional state be so intensely linked to and dependent on the child's life. We have to get used to giving them the respect they will gradually need more and more of in different ways from this age.
Ohhh the way i put a plate/bowl down on the desktop and close drawers or the fridge you'd think i ws an intruder sneaking about i feel you on the not wanting to disturb her flow. Attachment theory is soooo good to have learnt about because i understand that our relationship is what gives her the comfort and security to try new things and focus without really needing much from us other than our presence. They just know that 'it is safe i am oksy all my needs are met because i am with this loving person so now I can focus on my own thing and not be uneasy distreacted looking for that person'
You really gave given an ease of mind and i realised why i don't like just giving her that alone time for a bit. I know i need my time alone hahah sometimes i watch your new video during it but it really helps to not have anyone around so you can just be 100% yourself relax not hold yourself to a standard i can waste time be lazy or i can be messy whilst getting task done or i can give something my full attention without thinking if the needs of others for a while even 30 minutes like that is so good for our minds because we are akways switched on and performing in some easy unconsciously aware of the ones around us and our children need to have moments like that too (in a safe place) hahaha the mess i don't really nind its when the wooden ball rolls under some furniture that i never expected or something similar that i mind more.
I tried reading books alongside her or on the sofa she just eschews me to read to her about Montessori parenting and positive discipline hahahah i tell her thete aren't pictures in this but she does like the drawings and pictures in the Montessori toddler. I actually think she understands that her trays of activities have something to do with the book and what i am reading.

Thanks Sara! Always looking for feedback 🤗 Trying to find that balance between the two spectrums of getting information out in a quick video and slowing down my speech (I naturally talk very fast 😅). Already have next week's video pre-filmed but I'll definitely keep your feedback in mind going forward!

How old is your daughter here? My daughter just turned 15 months is this a good age for this selection/ choices shown here?

    • @MariaandMontessori
      @MariaandMontessori  Год назад +1

She was right between 15 and 16 months here! But everything was introduced slowly and one at a time based on where her development and interests are 😅 So it really depends on what you're observing from your daughter!
