Many thanks, this is the best interview I've ever seen on training parameters. So refreshing to see someone asking who really knows what he's talking about. I was a bit surprised to see that Pog's zone-2 heartrate is in the 140s (when tired) or even in the 150s, would have thought much lower.
That sounds about right to me. Most people really underestimate their own zone 2. Typical zone 2 that a sport watch gives you will shortchange you by 10-15 bpm on your zone 2. Best idea is to get it professionally measured.
My vam is 806 m/hr over a 4918 ft climb. The average grade is also not as steep as what he referenced. Thinking about his pace on my backyard climb is mind boggling, but would love to see it in person.
@@alpsalish They "use" Shimano officially, as they are sponsored by them. But if you actually look at their bikes, they have an SRM powermeter mounted.

He might be a bit young for that. But that changes. Dilated vs. hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is not a uniform finding in endurance athletes. Now me--I'm old, and had an enlarged left ventricle, but that was due to valvular disease. But 6 months out from valve repair, it's already smaller. Not suggesting that is meaningful when discussing world-class athletes, but this can change. John Mandrola (an electrophysiologist) has written about heart problems in endurance athletes. But according to him, the main risk is heart rhythm disturbances, rather than heart failure.
@@asdasd01 No, though the subject of exercise in patients with certain forms of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is somewhat controversial. The bigger problem for endurance athletes is cardiac arrhythmia, as with Sonny Cobrelli.

@@mikebarnshaw8125 thanks for advice! im planning to train more just never had the time. I used to train 4-5 a week so im probably maintaining some of the fitness i used to have. But women are running past me now.
I think he talks about zones more like Steven Seiler who distinguishes 3 zones (light, medium, hard) and with this system Tadej's words make more sense. Which is weird because San Milan is his coach and he uses 5+ zone system. All in all, that numbers are unreachable for normal guys in zone 100 so not a problem.
He refers quite often to practises that San Milan was teaching. Could be kind of a farewell to his former coach after SM was critizised for lacking HIT in Pogi's Training. Nice move-
Yeah I wish Peter had picked up on that especially when he said his heart rate was around 150 in zone 2. So that confirms a 3 zone model rather than 5.
@@brettmcdonald1798 Idk. I thought he mentioned in the interview that his max HR was 20x bmp. 75% of that would be ~150 bpm which correlates to a 5Z model
You need to interview Lionel Sanders. He is a professional triathlete that has ridiculous zone 2 numbers as well. His power levels are Pogi level at zone 2 but his HR is lower. Both are genetic freaks.
Totally. He just did some core work and stopped eating cake and then he is 5-10% better than every other pro. Gtfo. The only thing more extreme than his performance is your gullibility.
I as an observer, saw that best cyclist were mainly a bit more muscular, look at Mercks, Poulidor, Hinault, Lemond, Indurain, Armstrong, Ulrich, compared to Pogacar who looks as a fragile young kid, which is a sign of ketogenesis, you don't attack from far without this high ability.
Why in the world would they rely on a Shimano power meter? So many better choices out there. 320 W is his zone two !!!!?? Jesus, Mary and Joseph. And I’ll bet 3:38 he doesn’t weigh more than 150 pounds.
If him and his GF get Married and they have kids. It would be a crime if those kids didn't cycle. They would have moms mitochondria though not Pojicars. Look forward to seeing that situation evolve in 20 Years lol.

To be honest, the numbers are a bit off in my opinion. 330W presuming top of Z2, 75%, would mean an FTP of 440W. Not even Andre "Gorilla" Greipel had that FTP, he was somewhere around 400W, and he is huge compared to Tadej ...
Jakob Söderqvist in Lidltrek dev team did a 10h ride 17 of july before he participated in the Olympics. Doing 4h of z2 then 20 min test of 496watts and then 5h 44min with 226w average. Noo doubts on Tadejs numbers.
You are a top shelf educated physician, and first hand experience and knowledge of endurance sports. Pog is not clean, even your friend LA has all but called him out, along with most other pro riders. The way he actually trains and prepares is not anywhere close to what he talked about in his interview. Nice fellow I am sure. +7 watts/kg for +25min (I am Not sure on time) is not natural. Do you think this is “normal”? Call Lance. He pulled off a “Landis” at the worlds.
