- Corned Beef Brisket is all over the place in the US on St Patrick's day. But besides using it to make something Irish, you can use it to make something Finnish too! Here's a Finnish Beef Stew using Corned Beef Brisket.

We call this mojakka in Minnesota. Either lihamojakka (beef) or kalamojakka (fish) are St. Urho's Day traditions, though St. Urho got strong from eating kalamojakka & drinking viili. I enjoyed learning more about viili from your videos! Not many people make it here anymore & it is not sold in stores, so it is on my bucket list to try when I go to Finland someday!
Thanks for watching! If you want to make viili yourself, you can get the starter from Amazon too!
@@finnishyourplate Wow! I did not know that, I will have to get some-thank you!!
I like this recipe
@cookingwithmimmo Thank you!
I've always been intimidated by corned beef when I see it in the grocery stores. I just never knew how I could use it or prepare it. This is a great idea!
Yeah I'm not a huge fan of the texture, and if you do not cook it long enough, it will be tough. Fortunately that's easy to fix, just cook it a little bit longer.
@@finnishyourplate Good to know! Sometimes they have deals at the supermarket you can’t pass up. Do you think this would do well in an instant pot?
@@historygal7 I would think so yes.
Really like your stove! Finally got a tasting for the seasoning 🧂😜 No Guinness to compliment it? Looks perfect for Sunday
Thanks! I do have a full size stove too, but the induction cooktop has worked really well, especially for videos.
You did put allspice 🙁my mom did this in mojakka. Not my favorite spice. It’s been decades, maybe my taste buds will be ok with it. I’ve never used celeriac. Gotta give it a try. I’ve got a rye sourdough starter going. I’ve got viilia starter in my cupboard. You can order it. Craving lots of dishes my mom made.
You could certainly leave allspice out, but I think it is a pretty defining spice when it comes to Finnish meat dishes.
Horrible time getting rye flour. Does anyone else have that problem? I’m in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
Order King Arthur Pumpernickel flour online. It'll make great rye bread!
