Nice thank you. I am wanting to create this on the backside of my bedroom door as a kitchen shelf on the other side. Brilliant. I want to use my existing door
Firefighter from Michigan here, cant wait to build mine going in to a whiskey room. I have 36inch doors now and want to make them smaller so the book case doesn’t look so odd.
This is BRILLIANT!!!! This will definitely be my next project for a second entrance/exit for my windowless master bedroom. **Could you possibly share the dimensions of the door and the opening?? I'm fairly new to carpentry/woodworking and would benefit immensely from your assistance. Thank you for sharing, and I hope to hear from you soon!!!
I'm building a hidden door of a similar thickness. The door will be hidden on both sides and the "gap" _(professionally called the reveal, though it won't actuall be 'revealed' in a hidden door)_ needs to be 1/16th of an inch all the way around while being a 6½" thick door... to achieve this I will use an angled door and door frame, beveled edges... and most importantly I will have to be creative hinge point (made possible by using pivot hinges) just some tips for anyone looking for smaller tolerances in their "gaps".
@@MikeTheSith200 probably but I wanted something that was easy to work with and would hold up. It’s been over a year and no issues with the door and it gets used all the time!
Looking and doing an outward swinging bookshelf door with the hidden hinges. Can I use a bookshelf I already have? Also the wheel you added what did you call that? I'm concerned about the weight of the bookshelf and would want a wheel too.
@@jenniferjonica sorry for the delay, a already made bookcase would be cool, as long as the frame you use will hold it. Might have to build a custom frame. Keep me updated. The wheel came from Lowe’s btw.. was around $20

I been trying to build mine for 3 weeks but keep running into problems. I have carpet and trying to figure out if I need to cut the carpet or just place the 1x4 over top of the carpet for the frame. I have the pivot handles like the ones you didn’t use.
as a fireman, do you think that people that build things like these should file plans with the fire dept in case of emergency (do normal people even do that, or just rich people with huge panic rooms etc?)? i've thought about building secret rooms etc, but have disabled folks in my home and am worried that is something happened that they might not have ems or fire get to them in time. (i saw in another comment that you said your location had another door leading to the same place, but others might not)
As a firefighter, it’s common to see these doors in homes. I’d say, when doing search and rescue in low visibility, we come across a bookcase like this, it would open easily (unless it has a locking mechanism). As far as telling the FD about it, I’ve never had anyone call to tell us about one lol
I love how people build "secret" or "hidden" doors and then post videos of them for millions of people to see. LOLOL It's like the same people with carry permits that put gun stickers on their truck. 🤣
Well, I’m not hiding anything behind it… just built it for the space saving and coolness factor. But yes, if I had a stash of cash behind that hidden door I promise I wouldn’t share it. Plus, I have another door on the other side of my basement that leads to the same space! 🤣😂
Best Murphy door video explainer. Thank you
I would love the plans if you wouldn’t mind. TYIA!

Easy to do.. just add a few studs and make it the size you want! Good luck with your build, if you have any questions just let me know! Stay safe

Beautiful work! Do you have a business doing this work?! We’d love to hire you!
Nice job.
Thank you!
I love this type of thing. I want a house where I can build a secret magical fairy loft.
Okay quick question not even about the door how did you seal with the unfinished ceiling to not let light through to the other side.
Will you please share measurements and more details on build

Doesn’t using 3/4 MDF increase the door weight significantly?

I build mine using a storm door kit So the door could close on its own but I like the magnet
That’s a great idea too! The magnet is temporary until I get the latch part installed. Probably will be a rainy day project
Are the plans available for the hidden door/bookshelf available?

What depth do you have? I’m trying to do a in swinging door
I believe it was 8” but I can measure when I get off shift
Did you have wooden frame here? We do not have a wooden frame outside my closet. and i need something to close
Yes, normal 30 or 32” door frame.
Could you send me the specs you used in building it thanks

So don’t keep people in hidden rooms!
1:14 Is the bookcase starting to come away from the frame in the top left?
Good eye, but that’s just where I ran out of caulking 🤦🏼♂️

I’ll get those numbers to ya here in a little bit. Sorry, just saw your comment. Thanks
