17x17 Hex tile floor
Tiled this entire floor myself using 17x17 hex porcelain tiles. Was about 500sq feet total and a ton of cuts!
Yes I used leveling clips to help speed up the process when doing flooring by myself. Lots of fun and I hope to not see that much hex ever again! Lol

How I built my Hidden door! DIY
Просмотров 71 тыс.Год назад
This is a custom hidden door or Murphy door that I built in my basement area and acts like a bookcase as well. Very easy to build out of three-quarter inch MDF, a few one by framing pieces and trim. if you have any questions on measurements or how I built this, please reach out and I’ll assist
Beautiful work! Do you have a business doing this work?! We’d love to hire you!
Okay quick question not even about the door how did you seal with the unfinished ceiling to not let light through to the other side.
I'm building a hidden door of a similar thickness. The door will be hidden on both sides and the "gap" _(professionally called the reveal, though it won't actuall be 'revealed' in a hidden door)_ needs to be 1/16th of an inch all the way around while being a 6½" thick door... to achieve this I will use an angled door and door frame, beveled edges... and most importantly I will have to be creative hinge point (made possible by using pivot hinges) just some tips for anyone looking for smaller tolerances in their "gaps".
Doesn’t using 3/4 MDF increase the door weight significantly?
@@MikeTheSith200 probably but I wanted something that was easy to work with and would hold up. It’s been over a year and no issues with the door and it gets used all the time!
Will you please share measurements and more details on build
@@coachqueenkc1120 what do you need. Send me an email to brian at fixedbyfiremen dot com and I’ll help out.
Are the plans available for the hidden door/bookshelf available?
@@rahshahnalston8668 shoot me an email to Brian at fixedbyfiremen dot com and I can help with measurements and whatnot b
What is the thickness of book case
@@JacobHernandez-xk5hv I’d have to measure but I’d say 12” total from front to back. Shelves are around 7-8” deep. Just standard book depth plus a little extra
Did you have wooden frame here? We do not have a wooden frame outside my closet. and i need something to close
Yes, normal 30 or 32” door frame.
Looking and doing an outward swinging bookshelf door with the hidden hinges. Can I use a bookshelf I already have? Also the wheel you added what did you call that? I'm concerned about the weight of the bookshelf and would want a wheel too.
@@jenniferjonica sorry for the delay, a already made bookcase would be cool, as long as the frame you use will hold it. Might have to build a custom frame. Keep me updated. The wheel came from Lowe’s btw.. was around $20
Cool ! Love it nice !
Do you mind sharing the measurements?
@@la8309 sorry for the delay, comment got lost in the thread Shoot me an email to Brian at fixedbyfiremen dot com and I’d love to help out. Thanks
Love this!!
Best Murphy door video explainer. Thank you
Could you send me the specs you used in building it thanks
@@Trustygirlsrun sorry for the long delay, got lost in the comments thread. Shoot me an email at brian at fixedbyfiremen dot com and I can help ya out
Nice thank you. I am wanting to create this on the backside of my bedroom door as a kitchen shelf on the other side. Brilliant. I want to use my existing door
This is BRILLIANT!!!! This will definitely be my next project for a second entrance/exit for my windowless master bedroom. **Could you possibly share the dimensions of the door and the opening?? I'm fairly new to carpentry/woodworking and would benefit immensely from your assistance. Thank you for sharing, and I hope to hear from you soon!!!
Thanks; I was wanting to see the backside.
@@billdougan4022 I thought I showed the backside.
A material list and measurements would be appreciated, thanks.
Please include a handyman as well.
@@terryberdet6547 🤣 preferably a free one. 😂
@@oops-nope sorry for the delay… I will make a list and email it out if you shoot me a email. Brian at fixedbyfiremen dot com
Any way you could share door dimensions and then opening size left to ensure it would open? Great design!
Yes, let me measure things and I’ll get back with ya. At the FD today
as a fireman, do you think that people that build things like these should file plans with the fire dept in case of emergency (do normal people even do that, or just rich people with huge panic rooms etc?)? i've thought about building secret rooms etc, but have disabled folks in my home and am worried that is something happened that they might not have ems or fire get to them in time. (i saw in another comment that you said your location had another door leading to the same place, but others might not)
As a firefighter, it’s common to see these doors in homes. I’d say, when doing search and rescue in low visibility, we come across a bookcase like this, it would open easily (unless it has a locking mechanism). As far as telling the FD about it, I’ve never had anyone call to tell us about one lol
So don’t keep people in hidden rooms!
I would love to see your plans if you are able to share!
I didn’t use any set plans, but basically went off a few designs I’ve seen online. If you want, I can share some rough dimensions
@@fixedbyfiremen I would love all the help I can get!
@@iGoAllTheWay262 let me get some measurements for you and a few others on here and I’ll post it up. Very easy to make.
This is great! When you get a chance, could you please send what you have for dimensions. Thanks!@@fixedbyfiremen

1:14 Is the bookcase starting to come away from the frame in the top left?
Good eye, but that’s just where I ran out of caulking 🤦🏼♂️
Awesome job! Just curious on your rough opening size versus the dimensions of the bookshelf?
I’ll get those numbers to ya here in a little bit. Sorry, just saw your comment. Thanks
It will only last about 15 years Then knee replacement 😂😂😂
Did you not see my knee scooter, it’s the bees knees 😂
there is a wheelchair with your name on it.
Don’t know what you mean by that.. I’m guessing because I was on my knees?? But, the knee scooter I use for flooring jobs works wonders.. then, having a wife that works at a chiropractic office helps a ton too😂
I would love the plans if you wouldn’t mind. TYIA!
Complimenti per l’ottimo lavoro, mi hai dato un ottima idea per migliorare quella che ho fatto io. Userò una rotella come hai fatto tu🔝🔝🔝
I love how people build "secret" or "hidden" doors and then post videos of them for millions of people to see. LOLOL It's like the same people with carry permits that put gun stickers on their truck. 🤣
Well, I’m not hiding anything behind it… just built it for the space saving and coolness factor. But yes, if I had a stash of cash behind that hidden door I promise I wouldn’t share it. Plus, I have another door on the other side of my basement that leads to the same space! 🤣😂
Just found your channel, subscribed! Thank you for the content my man
Thanks for subscribing! I’ll try and post more on here, not very active on RUclips, but might be if I keep getting lots of support from people like you. 👏🏽🤘🏽
Very nicely done! Much better looking than other DIYs I’ve seen. What is the total depth of your bookcase?
Thank you!! It’s about 8” deep.
Firefighter from Michigan here, cant wait to build mine going in to a whiskey room. I have 36inch doors now and want to make them smaller so the book case doesn’t look so odd.
Easy to do.. just add a few studs and make it the size you want! Good luck with your build, if you have any questions just let me know! Stay safe
That looks really nice! Great job! 👍
Thank you!
I love this type of thing. I want a house where I can build a secret magical fairy loft.
I build mine using a storm door kit So the door could close on its own but I like the magnet
That’s a great idea too! The magnet is temporary until I get the latch part installed. Probably will be a rainy day project
nice job👍
What depth do you have? I’m trying to do a in swinging door
I believe it was 8” but I can measure when I get off shift
I been trying to build mine for 3 weeks but keep running into problems. I have carpet and trying to figure out if I need to cut the carpet or just place the 1x4 over top of the carpet for the frame. I have the pivot handles like the ones you didn’t use.
I’d just put the 1x4 over top and trim it out on the finished side to close the gap. Hopefully you got it figured out. Sorry, didn’t reply sooner
Nice job.
Thank you!
it looks awesome and saves alot of money 💰 yup no scratches or scuff marks here....yeaaaah!
Thanks! Yeah, I’ve fixed too many holes in islands like this one!
Why not 45 the niche schlueter, I was almost impressed Nice job though
Jesus loves you guys
Awesome
