If there was ever a time we needed you more than ever, it's right now. R.I.P. Eyedea..
The family is in shambles and it doesn't help that the prophet has gone to rest.
Oh my, i had no eyedea he passed wtf.😢
@@tolishaws years and years ago, heroin
Oh no Rest In Peace artist
Saw Atmosphere perform on the 1yr anniversary of Eyedea's passing. It was a special feeling. Could feel what they had in Slugs voice 😥 Portland Maine
It's strange to miss someone you've never met.
Nicholas Weber It's kinda like a comedians line I know....I like to reminisce with people I don't know???
Feel the same way about Mac Miller now😢
How about Robin Williams? Lol
summed that up perfectly Nicholas
I have to agree. I didn't find his music until after he passed... wish I could have watched him perform just once.
Being from MN I knew a lot of people who knew Mike. I met him once in the studio and I remember he was so present, constantly speaking in poetry, even about the curtains. Quite a soul. Gone too soon for sure.
Holy shit, crazy to see you here. Kinda makes me smile to see that people still remember Mikey.
^^
Holy crap its actually you! Im subscribed and a big fan of your channel!
one of the most beautiful souls ever. i cry that hes dead and i never even met him
Man... that presence sure translates well.. kinda makes the rest of us know... were alive long after were dead. DO WHAT IS RIGHT
RIP Eyedea (November 9, 1981 - October 16, 2010), aged 28
You will be remembered as a legend.
Can’t come to terms that it’s been that long.
Yea definitely Eyedea was truly 1 of a kind, a once in a millennium type of talent he definitely influenced my creativity & just the fact he did whatever he wanted to do regardless of what is popular or relevant
He died on my birthday.
Still can't believe he left this shithole before me. Goddammit.
I was born the same year and month as him.
2024 in here! Still remembered!
Haven't left my dude. Keep smiling
Of course. Then, now, and later. I would be a fool not to refresh my memory every now and then.
I met this man face to face at an Atmosphere concert when i was 15 years old at the metro in chicago ,illinois totally clueless to the hip hop scene..(trying to be a bboy)i was at a bboy circle where everyone was showing off thier skills before the show. On the sideline by the bar there he was with a red plaid fleece buttoned up cholo style a white T with some skinny jeans and had a bald fade(Looked like an average skater*) he told me dude go and break man you look like youre about to go crazy on the floor (Dressed like i came outta the movie "Beatstreet")...i said nah man im kinda scared i might crash ...he said*** you need to loosen up man, here go to the bar and ask for a beer and point at me ,tell them i sent you***. not knowing he was, i looked at him with a wierd ass face (i was only 15 never drank before*). i said no thanks man.. thinking he was trolling me*. I came for an atmosphere concert to meet slug* and beyond*. i heard of eyedea but never seen what he looked like. I thought he was one of the illest underground artists around in my time. Slug came on the stage and started off the show and said "we got a special guest appearance for you guys" he siad "can we get eyedea on the stage please" and everyone started cheering loud af. the beat dropped and the guy standing next to me ,the guy that was talking to me for 15 mins trying to get me to bboy and get me drunk for the first time was one of the most inspirational, talented, and under rated underground emcees of his time* Yes.. Eyedea himself put his hand on my shoulder and said "make sure you grab that beer man" he rushed on stage and started going off... As salty as i was at that moment not knowing he was , i gave a run in the bboy circle while he was emceeing and everyone gave me props* didnt get the beer though*. it was an all ages event and once it hit 11:00 pm under age had to leave so i didnt get to talk to him after. He literally taught me never judge a book by its cover* R.i.p. Eyedea, im glad i got to meet a legend in the flesh.
Holy shit man, you got to meet a legend face to face, dam... you are a true lucky man
And the story tho, awesome just like in the books...
Ive got a lot of stories ,lived in chicago almost all my life , difference between me and the shit you read in books my stories are true* R.i.p Eyedea and R.i.p Prodigy*
tell me a good story bro
*true*
I can't tell if your a master troll or if your being serious. But if your serious that's a amazing story man
Lived homeless broken and broke and this man's words from day to day at times kept me from spiraling down into my negative thoughts even more. Thanks bro!!!!!!!
This song got me through the most stressful and depressing period of my life. I can't thank this dude enough. RIP man.

Over a decade later, and I feel like Rhymesayers and the few thousand followers gotta know...this right here is timeless. 2020 this is being played and always RIP Eyedea. We all pour one for him every time we hear that voice. I know this is the hit and his better work is not as popular but here's where to post your 2020 eulogys I think.
Brad Ahrens amen dude.
Wow this is the first song of his I’ve heard and I didn’t know he was deceased hope he’s resting in peace. I love this beautiful song and it’s lyrics still apply today if not more so than ever before
2021
haha timeless. Here i am re-discovering this almost 2 decades later and I just sent this to someone who definitely has never heard it before. It's timeless I said.
@@jasonsaulters6027 Hell yeah and thank you for bringing it back to me with a comment. Fuckin let's go.

So many quotable lines and any one of them is enough to solidify Eyedea's title as a genius writer.
well said friend
13 years later and this song still hits me hard. So beautifully sad
"Even if it breaks me I won't let it make me frown.I'm falling but no matter how hard I hit the ground, I'll still smile."
So good for the soul.

My homie since third grade showed this song the other day. I grew up listing to atmosphere and living legends. It’s crazy how I missed this group. RIP. It’s been awhile but he’s not forgotten.
I really needed this today. Eyedea may be gone, but his message will live on forever. And his spirit and songs will continue to help pick people up when they are down.

Eyedea is one artist out of thousands that has made an impact on my life and has made me into a better person. Taking in his words n messages to heart and apply his teachings to get me out of hard situations bc Eyedea taught me how to fight my demons with his poetry. I can not, I mean CAN NOT, believe youre dead bro. Never got to meet you, wish I had!
A great man (Sean Daley: AKA Slug) said, "Writers never die." I don't think anyone could say it better, and it means even more knowing that Slug and Eyedea were (like) brothers. Eyedea will always be remembered. Such a beautiful lyricist, writer, but more importantly, person. We'll see you when we get there, Michael.
Eyedea wont always be remember....as much as i want to believe that, it sounds too emotional...you gotta realize at some point this planet is going to die, and if we dont find a way out or still havent off ourselves yet(, by any means neccesssary) eyedea will be forgoten.....along with everyone else living on this planet...unless aliens...which is why i try to enjoy his music while i still can....appreciate it and thats all
yeah this world WILL pass but we go on... man i had no idea he passed!?!? what happened??

This to me is the pinnacle of modern day hip hop.
Pinnacle of morality and humanity. If everyone understood Eyedeas philosophy a little more, the world would be a better place.

its okay... what matters is you found him now C:
Found him yesterday myself, best 24 hours ever.
What did he died from?
Gilbert Grape asphyxiation on vomit in his sleep.
PagerNinerTwelve Yeah i checked it out, that sucks.
I've been listening for a while on Spotify. RUclips recommended this and I put it off excited to see what they did for the video. Looked at the comments and saw the "news". I had no clue. I saw how long's it been since they released any new music but I didn't assume he had passed. And to see it was an accidental overdose like Mac hurt more than anything.
His music has spoken to me and helped me in ways beyond just advice. Definitely paying my respects today. Rest in power.
Still smilin' for you bro. Never met you, but miss you. Thanks for your amazing music, got me through hard times. RIP.
That's what's beautiful you can reminisce with ppl you don't know cuz you most likely relate to his music

Listening to this and praying. These times we live in are different to everyone and everything but we have to understand the lyrics and the message and be strong.

Miss you Eyedea . I am your fan from India. I discovered your music in 2009, I saw your freestyle battles and became your fan. Then next year in 2010, you left this world. I was very sad then, I remember your facebook wall was full with all R.I.P messages ...your music helped me to cope up with my old days of struggle and it helped me a lot to rekindle my spirit. This song is one of my favorite of your song and i guess it will never get old. R.I.P

stifler4eva bro me too... I just found his music an hour or two ago but I do hip hop.. Do contact me,if u rap. Having a rapper Known, would be a good start of our respective careers
Hello, I am from Bulgaria.. and my story is the same...
Born in 94, still can’t stop thinking how dope eyedea would be if he was still in the game. Not only was he one of the three best freestylers I ever heard. Mc juice, harry Mack and eyedea… in no order.. but he was also the best battle rapper I ever heard. Punchlines, delivery and stage presence was second to none in my opinion
Plus his albums were all sick as fuck
I always find myself back here year after year for some philosophy and amazing bars. Thank you, Micky
Discovered Eyedea a year ago, still listening to it every day multiple times. It's very seldom that an artist has amazed me so much over such a long period of time.

He made the perfect song about his struggles in life and the struggles of others. Poor guy wish he was still around making music loved him for along time now miss him

i just recently discovered his music. im blown away. so sad he passed away, that he didn‘t win the fight against his demons. his lyrics are on another level, so thoughtful, poetic and reflective. gone way too soon.
It’s music like this that keeps this mortal coil pushing forward. Unbelievable. I just found Eyedea.. i can already say First Born might be the best album ever created. Profound lyrics in every breath. Rip.

Eyedea didn’t waste a single word in his songs literally so poetic
This man and his music mean so much to me, his words truly changed me life. And as much as I love listening to his stuff every now and then it just hits me that he isn't here anymore and it just breaks my heart. I know its selfish but I feel like I just need his music. You are loved brother hang on man this shit won't be forever find god and try to find happiness in every moment bro we have no choice because this shit will kill a if we let it man do not fall weak you are so much better that that and you have potential to do great.
That's awesome man, I mean I don't like that your surroundings lead the feeling of hopelessness but the fact that the man who I think of as a modern day Jesus pushed that gun away really speaks to me. I can only imagine the mania that occurred when the world opened up and shed some light on a broken soul. I could never ever follow through with suicide, it's just not in me but the thought sparks chemicals in my brain that just makes me want to be a better being, if only but for a few moments it's still something. I believe it's healthy to fall apart once in awhile for alot of us that's all we can do. keep on keeping on brother.
+haga daga I saw a video of two dudes helping out a homeless vet. He just broke down and was sobbing and hugged them. That one moment gave him the hope he needed to keep fighting. There are so many people out there worse off than you that could use your help. That one moment of being the better man and helping someone can mean the difference between life and death for another person. Power thru and make real change, if only for a moment.
God bless homie! Hope you're still doing ok
fake but alright
This message is much needed all the time but i feel it more in times like these 😊
What makes this song even heavier and sadder is that his issues he would of been fighting everyday, killed him, prematurely too. RIP Eyedea

This is easily one of the most inspiring songs of all time
After my first time listening to this song, it has opened up my life to this new genre of music. I really really really wish I had grown up years before and possibly had the chance to even see this guy. Eyedea is going to stick with me for the rest of my life, and he has opened me up to philosophy and his ideas of the universe have just changed my life and the way I look at things.
