Great song for someone to remember the bad times during addiction. Back when I was drinking that phrase “maybe you don’t recognize it but this is your home this is where your life lives” hits on so many levels.
"This is where your life lives" instead of "this is where you live" is such a subtle but powerful difference. It makes it sound more passive, as is the woman is not living her life, she is not the owner of her life because she doesn't take responsibility for it. Besides, just saying "this is where your life lives" makes it sound more dramatic, like "look at the mess you've made", if that makes any sense.
My wife spent minutes in my apartment over two months crashed my car got a dui fled the scene before arrest , had her f boi in the car failed to identify the passenger incriminating me while I was back to school shopping with her mother who was a paralegal I was in jail in a padded cell 48 he later for domestic violence after I flipped a table. My own table. Because she kept blocking my exit, while her mom called 911 to say I was a threat. She took everything but left pictures not of my babies who I spent every day since their birth, they left picture of her family at a dinner table
I lost my kids , and the police had me in a padded cell so I couldn’t exercise my right to council. They fled 130miles away, leaving me without a phone, birth certificate, ebt of which she sold anyways to her co workers for cocaine my family didn’t speak to me until after her dui because she told them I was a drug addict and was crying because I was coming down not because she was sleeping around driving drunk with my kids- Nicholas Adam feiock loving father who is not 51/50 may I have a lawyer please. I haven’t spoken to my children since than.
This song is my early teens-late 20s. Never knew someone could put those in words...but here we are. "Look ma I'm a productive member of society. Get loud when I'm drunk other than that I live quietly"...no newbies, welcome but that's the line that introduced me to Slug and Ant back in 2007...Atmosphere has saved my life countless times
As someone that found this song before struggling with alcoholism, and someone that still listens to it after all the dumb shit, it’s so accurate it’s scary.
This song has a strong meaning, it's straight up about drinking until the point where you wake up in your own bed but dont realize where you are. this song is about a person who drinks and drinks till they the mask there own life. I can relate. if u really listen to the song u can see the message."this is your home this is where your life lives" and it time to relocate. aka get sober
I just had the same epiphany. I'm 26 and can't believe it. Love the realistic perspective that music like this so young gave me in life. Wish Slug and Ant never lost their edge.
Dude same im bout to be 26 in 2 months and I've been bumping then since 5th grade because I found their music and other underground shit while playing the Tony hawk pro skater and the underground games
This jam came out shortly after I quite drinking! Kind of helped open my eyes to whom and what I had become.....Good SHIT! Had to revisit this jam after your Last to Say jam dropped. People probably have the same feeling about that one. Keep doing what you do! Dueces!
I’ll never forget when I heard this the first time. It was the first song I ever heard from atmosphere. Feels, dude. I was a sophomore in high school, almost 10 years ago.
Damn this song legit changed my life. I remember being a dude lost in the sauce. Waking up hung over still high on some random couch. I mean the hook straight up described my youth fading in and out of reality with strangers. It really gave me an ominous feeling /catalyst need to change into the branch manger for a large bank i am today.
This video is so beautiful. It reminds me of my mother because she's an addict & this is her life often. Also reminds me of my binges due to my bad anxiety/depression. Even just the instrumental captures the feeling. You two are genius's.
Wow, this song has a lot more bass than you might think if you only listen too it with your earphones or your computer. Finds some nice speakers, sit down, press play and never get back up again.
All of Atmospheres songs can be taken one way or another. Depends on your mood or personality (or how much you know your hip hop music and can decipher the artists behind it) LET PEOPLE THINK WHAT THEY WANT
People think what they want yeah fine but, and i say but, what about what they dont think? The average person really either relates due to their own actions or anothers close to them. And i feel they really relate themselves yet dont wanna admit it... The same reason that its not brought up is the same reason we
Don't get me wrong, I love the newcomers finding this fantastic music that I've enjoyed for so long but I must make a correction. Atmosphere is a "they" not a "he"!! Slug's lyrics and vocals are phenomenal but their wouldn't be Atmosphere without Ant. Give the guy with the beats some credit!
it`s a very good combination the lyrics and the way slug tells a story and Ant's beats..it touches something inside and i know i`m not the only one that looses himself in some of their lyrics because they touch my very core. Peace
This was one of my favorite songs years ago. I now have 2 wonderful kids and get to see their mother stair from the glass house. Its amazing how many songs of atmosphere relate to my life issues. The same song changes over time it's a beautiful sadness.
I have watched many friends deal with this problem. Amazing song, really looking into atmosphere and his music. Hope to hear more, nice to see some meaningful lyrics.
I guess this song becomes pretty trippy when you're drunk at 3 AM... Even if I were awake, I would've said the lyrics and the song are absolute masterpiece!!

I’ve lost many people to addiction. I’ll never understand it, it’s sad but nobody can stop it but the ones holding the needle or bottle. If only the users could feel the hurt of those that care for them.
i agree, i believe this song is meant to be taken quite literally. His other songs devoted to symbology and metaphors and less.... literal... and straight foward in the lyrics.
Woke up wicked tore back this morning. So now I'm sittin' shirtless in a dark living room trying to hold down some water, with this song turned all the way up.
Five years ago? Damn and it's fucked up how many times I've heard this song when it was describing me. I stopped drinking a few months ago cause I'm not trying to die but this song is still fun.
When my significant other showed me this song to show me I had a drinking problem it hurt a shit ton. Because of its true. And it kills me. I remember the times when I would cry when he would dumb my beer cans because I just wanted to drink my pain away maybe even die and it wasn’t fair to him. I hope one day I can get completely clean not for him but myself because the stories I hear of what I’ve done when I’m sober scare the fuck out of me and I hate myself more. This song paints alcoholism really good, love Slug for this one 💕
Unfortunately i know this story all too well.................thanks atmosphere, you helped me get over this dark time in my life..... if only i could thank the man himself.......
Aaron Gautier-Borrell don't know if you like music like this. I LOVE Atmosphere! The reason I wanted to show you this video though is because it made me think of the Tove Lo's "Habits" video. Hits me the same way. I remember when my life used to be completely controlled by when I was going to drink again. Now when I watch these videos I feel so blessed to not be controlled by alcohol. Now my family doesn't have to see me with a beer bottle in my hand and slurring my words. Thank God I quit drinking when I did because Jackson was too young to have any memories of it. Although since my husband doesn't drink, he would always keep me in check. But still. It was wrong. I remember when Jackson was 3 or 4 years old, just learning how to talk good.(he had a binky in his mouth until 3 years old so it took him a little longer to be able to pronounce words correctly), but back on track! we were going through the grocery store shopping, and as we passed the beer cooler section he looked over at it and pointed and said "that's Mommy beer!" I felt like the lowest piece of crap in the world. Not something I'll ever forget. So yeah, I'm grateful he wasn't old enough to remember my drinking. He only remembers me sober. And I thank God for that everyday!
She kinda reminds me of Christina Aguilera in "The Voice Within"... ...Anyways, yeah it's like Lady Gaga's "Marry the Night" music video, it's si deep.
carrie that's not very nice, you realize whether your description of my own parentage is correct or not, there are without doubt others reading this whose mothers are/were actually crack addicts. how do you think you're making them feel right now? for shame. raoul i'm sorry to hear that, best of luck
pa1nted I'm not making them feel any way, because I'm clearly talking to you. And they can clearly see it's in response to your smartass comment. I see now that you are either a troll, or something is wrong with you in the head. So fuck off, I'm done wasting my time on you.
Think about when you say an "Artist" when referring to musicians. Atmosphere is the truest definition of an artist. Slug paints the most vivid and beautiful pictures with his words.
Slug maintains the allegorical stance from previous records in songs such as this, which deals with his emotions towards the war in Iraq using the guise of a person waking up from a hangover.
i love how on everyone of atmospheres songs the comments are dedicated to deciphering slugs lyrics. It really shows that his songs have so much depth and meaning.
I think the girl she sees biking outside the window reminds her of when she was a child, and when she's in the field in the pink that's the glass house that is referred to: a fragile escape... maybe she wants to be free like a child again, away from responsibilities and addictions like drinking and partying and drugs. Just my thoughts because I relate to the song...
slug.. my names dave an i love u!!! best story teller iv ever heard.. got the ex into ya lyrics but she was never interested.. den as we were breaking up an i had no control over it alot of ya songs start pulling heart strings... i love your songs coz i feel the emotions.. dave from dublin fan for life
This describes my life when i was drinking really heavily. Cost me College and jobs but i dont regret it, i had some fun nights :B Living a life of sobriety now days though thank God. Too many people get trapped in the cycle of addiction. Woke up to that familiar feeling Staring at an unfamiliar ceiling Still got your jeans on but you're topless Headache and the stomach feels nauseous Grab your shirt off the bedroom floor And trying to recollect the night before
This song has got to be about drinking to the point of blacking out, waking up realizing you were blacked out and feeling the regret of not knowing what happened the night before. before i even watched the video that's the feeling i got from it.. mostly because a good portion of us have probably felt this way from time to time.
Good Album. Great Song. Really amazing Music. Been a Fan of Atmosphere since outcast. Good Video. Met Ant once thanked him for the music, he was chill........
I think you're both onto something. Atmos wouldn't fit the bill on a radio-rap rotation for any longer than they did, but everything they built they built brick by brick, and didn't settle for lowest common denominator. They've always kept true to DIY/punk ethics, but just because Slug doesn't rap about diamonds and ho's doesn't make them any less hip-hop. Myself, like most Rhymesayers fans, am happy to see Slug rise from the underground without trying to sell out for all its worth; well played
This music is like something I'm always looking for and never find, it moves my body. And slug is just the shit all around so, perfect match. Atmosphere
Great song for someone to remember the bad times during addiction. Back when I was drinking that phrase “maybe you don’t recognize it but this is your home this is where your life lives” hits on so many levels.
Facts.
Living in a Sober house right now. Atmosphere is helping the heal to come back a better me.
This was one of my sister’s favorite songs.. she passed away at age 26 from drinking 😢
The beat on this is something else. You don’t even have to hear the lyrics to feel the gut ache this song represents.
"Maybe you don't recognize it, but this is your home, this is where your life lives...."
Basically
Could have given me a spoiler warning before telling me how it ends
Hits too hard
Idk, but as an alcoholic this speaks to me on so many levels
"This is where your life lives" instead of "this is where you live" is such a subtle but powerful difference. It makes it sound more passive, as is the woman is not living her life, she is not the owner of her life because she doesn't take responsibility for it. I've been listening to this song for about a decade now, and I never thought about it like that. Thank you!
This track is timeless. The way slug tells the story over such a powerful beat.
i think my favorite part of this amazing song is the little echo that meows "house" after the hook
Good ear
Like a creaky door. Adds to the melodrama.
This song is my early teens-late 20s. Never knew someone could put those in words...but here we are. "Look ma I'm a productive member of society. Headache and the stomach feels nauseous
Grab your shirt off the bedroom floor
And trying to recollect the night before
I've realized that this is my hangover song.
This song has got to be about drinking to the point of blacking out, waking up realizing you were blacked out and feeling the regret of not knowing what happened the night before. before i even watched the video that's the feeling i got from it.. mostly because a good portion of us have probably felt this way from time to time.
SO SICK... ATMOSPHERE KEEP THE BEATS ROLLIN'
Good Album.
Excellent. Thank you Atmosphere.
This music is like something I'm always looking for and never find, it moves my body. And slug is just the shit all around so, perfect match.
Atmosphere
I love slug!He really is a skilled artist.
This song always takes me back to the times when this first came out and how much I was partying
