I just recently started woodworking. I'm learning from what I call "RUclips University." Just recently came across your channel and I love it. My daughter is getting married in May and I told her I would help her build blanket ladders and she could sell them. We just finished our first one tonight and stained it dark walnut. She's so excited about woodworking now. Thanks for your great channel and your positivity. God bless you and your family.
Welcome aboard!
That's what I tell everyone. I went to RUclips University.😀
My wife bought one of these from Amazon last summer for about $90. I wish I had seen this video before then.
It is super-functional, and makes a nice addition to our TV room.
I like the step by step 🪜 instructions.
I am going to build one for a towel rack for a small bathroom.
Good job on the video. 😊
So, I signed up for the newsletter on the 731 website and started checking out the site. I came across this project and the video which is perfect since my daughter has been asking for a blanket ladder for about a year and I haven't found one in a price range I was comfy with. Now I can make it for her, thanks so much.
Great to hear!
Just downloaded your blanket ladder pdf. Thank you for the tips and helping to build my confidence. God speed!
I love how this turned out and I know my wife will love to put it to good use. Thank you for an excellent idea!
Glad it you like it! Do you guys have home made quilts to display?
Hola! 🖐 Thanks for this video. There are tons of videos "out there" and I appreciate your method and ideas of building this one. The more the better. Take care and have a good one, Adios! 👊
Hey Matt! Greetings from St. Louis. Thanks for doing this video and taking the time to make it. I showed my wife your video and she loves ❤ this thing. She's got 3 people in mind from work to try to sell this to. I got your free plans from your site. I've got a workbench ordered and waiting to be delivered, then order the lumber. This will be my first project. I hope to start it this weekend. Thanks again my friend!

How'd it go, man?
Some smaller wood working projects that I've been working on are some paper towel holders, and toilet paper holders.
How I have been making them is, I cut "biscuits" out of some 6" diameter walnut logs I have. Cut the biscuits about 1" thick. I found that just using a hand saw to cut the biscuits works best( for me, you can use a reciprocating saw if you like, just be safe) Any sort of logs will do. Walnut, Oak, Cedar, or what ever you have access to will work.
Then drill a hole in the center of the biscuits using a "forester bit" or a 1" "hole saw" will work. You can remove the bark if you want or leave it on for a more rustic look.
Sanding the "wood biscuits" is a little difficult, because its "end grain"....
I had a bunch of handles from mops, and brooms I cut at 14" to leave some room to round off one end, and the opposite end, I "spliced" so I could put a wedge in the bottom. Sand smooth once you have them cut.
You may have to "taper" one end to fit in the hole you drilled in the "biscuits"
Assembly should be pretty easy to figure out....but if not I will explain the best I can with out any confusion.
Set wood biscuit flat on work bench, then insert the handle you cut off, into the hole in the biscuit.
It should be snug enough to hold without wood glue. If not, you can use some wood glue, and or a wedge to hold into place.
I wish I could post pictures to show how simple they are to make.
Hopefully these could be some small projects to sell to help fund bigger projects!!!????
Either way, have fun, be safe, and I hope everyone is successful with their wood working projects!!!
Awesome work. The distressing idea was great! It really adds character to the ladder.
Thank you 🙏🏻. We love that distressed look!
These are relatively easy to build and everyone loves them!
When my daughter was going to OSU I had several girls wanting them for there dorm rooms.
That was nice
@@731Woodworks just a thought! If you have a collage close hang a few collage banners or whatever on it and advertise locally! $$$$
Yet another great video.
Love how ya explain everything, and discuss up front costs
Thank you
I like that ladder. I quilt so that would be cool to make someday.
Thank you
It would be nice to find someone local to me who quilts. My great-grandmother did when she was young, but I'm not sure anyone in the family ever bothered with the craft. I have very fond memories of those quilts!
I absolutely love this!
Guess we’ll go with pocket holes. Just made one with dowels as I wanted to try that for the first time. If they sell with pocket holes though that’s great.
Thank you❤
Wow! I've been watching you now for about 4 months. Great idea's, great plans. I subscribed but never got to your channel. Found it now. Might mention it on one of your U-Tube video's. Don't think I am from outer space, but I really had trouble finding you and others. Happy 4th of July.
I'm new to woodworking and this is my next project! @9:31 One thing I'd like to do is soften all the edges - or at least the rungs (somewhat evenly). Not sure if this is a job for a trim router or a palm sander / sander block will do
Love it
I found local consignment store I decided blanket ladders to start out. Came back for instructions.
Keep us posted on how it goes!
Great video thanks, just recently found yourself. And so far loving everything I've seen. I actually just went out today and made myself a blanket holder. Sadly don't have a pocket jig yet so just gone with screws threw the sides. But if I make any for friends i'll have a jig by then!
awesome
That looks like the one I got. It’s in my tool box somewhere. Have to track it down
👊
I can't wait to upgrade to the IT, but my R3 works great!
R3 is a good tool
That was nice
Thank you
That’s awesome! Thanks for the video!
Thank you
How do you like that paint sprayer? Are they easy to change out paints/stains? It certainly would be nice to have one.
Been using it for over 4 years now and it's still going good
i like your ladder design, how long are the ladder legs? thank you
Tmo they are 6 feet long.
LOL Matt! Was that the Mrs. with a thumbs up at 9:07?
Since you're relying on irregularities of the wood surface to make the dark paint show through the white paint, wouldn't it have been better to skip the preliminary sanding so there would be more "high spots" to show through after the final sanding?
Hey Matt, enjoyed this demonstration but the music drowned you out, so I had to write down what you said for my HOH hubby that wears hearing aides, but I'm getting a quilt ladder yay!!
Thank you
Hey Matt I’m a beginner and this is the first project I have ever done. I have built two of these ladders and I have the same issue with both of them after I have them completed on the bottom one side kicks out about an inch further then the other side. If I line the bottom up on the floor then one side at the top does not touch the wall. Can you help me out? Love your videos and god bless!
do you have the instructions posted as well? thanks
I just got an order for a six blanket ladder. I have been researching to let them know a price. Any suggestions?
hi bought your plan package including this ladder and the farmhouse coffee table but i did not receive it?
Send me an email 731woodworks@gmail.com and I will resend the plan download link
@@731Woodworks i sent you a email thanks.
Hey brother Jim from Good News wood working please don’t think I some kind of stocker or worse yet a groupy but I’m going to start making quilt ladders and I can’t decide how tall to make them all the little old ladies I have talked to are no help at all HELP!!!
I make mine 6 feet tall
Hey Matt how do you ship this item?
I've never shipped them. We sold them locally
@@731Woodworks thanks brother keep making saw dust
Got here after watching your second 5 projects you can sell video.. what’s the paint sprayer you use? I want to get a good, reliable one. Thanks!
I'm still using this one ruclips.net/video/wA17PvY5Uqs/видео.html It's not perfect or near a Fuji sprayer but it works well for my projects.
How did you decide the angle of the legs? Also I’m going to use dowel rod on my first one.
More of a random guess than anything. After I cut the 10 degree angle, I took it inside and checked to make sure it was what we wanted.
I did yet 10 degree angle and it seems to look good. Do you think anything needs to be angled on top or it’s fine just with the straight edge against the wall?
@@shelleyfanning655 We angled ours on the top. Check out the video at 1:08 to see.
How long are the long 1x4's?
6 feet. Free plans here www.731woodworks.com/store/blanketladderplans
@@731Woodworks thank you. I scrolled down and saw that after I asked. Thanks for all the great videos.
Matt, what did you use for the finishing coat for your f
Quilt/blanket holders? A stain?
We painted with gray spray paint. Then after that dried we painted an off white paint. Then used a sander to distress it.
@@731Woodworks thank you so much. Our Rustic Farmhouse TV console is now in our living room. It's great and we love it with many compliments. We tell them where we got the inspiration from and tell folks about 731 Woodworks.

Maybe I missed it Matt but how tall was this ladder?
6 feet

What's the length of the long boards?
6 feet tall
What is the length of the legs of your ladder?
6 feet
@@731Woodworks I had the same question on the height, glad I found this in the comments. I was guessing that it was around 6 feet. Thank You!
Hey! I have a dog named Coda, too! She's a gold pit with Cleopatra eyeliner. Altered the spelling of her name to Kota, which means 'happiness, good fortune' in Japanese (yeah, probably should have chosen an Egyptian name, but my house had a hand in naming her). Cheers!
That's awesome
I didn't catch everything. What were the total dimensions of each piece? TIA

Hey, Matt! Have you thought about "remastering" the audio on some of your older videos? I figure if all those old school rock n roll dudes can do it, maybe RUclipsrs could, as well? The content is solid and valuable, but the audio is a little hard to hear in spots for us old dudes.
If I knew how, I certainly would
@@731Woodworks wish I could help. I'm not slick enough even to make a good video!
Quick question... what am I doing wrong? I’m using pocket holes with wood glue but seems like they don’t stay too well. I end up having to clamp everything anyways for the wood glue.
Is it because I’m using hardwood pockethole screws instead of softwood?
Also, the screws keep going through the material. Using 2 1/2 screws for for 2x4 which is the recommended screw. Don’t know what I’m doing wrong and don’t have confidence in the pocket hole screws to hold my project together. I have more confidence in the glue.
I sometimes set the collar on the drill bit a little shallower to prevent them from popping through. You could also use 2" screws. They should hold so it may be that you are not using the correct screw or depth. They should hold very solid. If done correctly, the pocket hole joinery should be very stable. I've built tons of projects with them. Try using the different depths on your drill bit stop to see what works best.
Arkansas guy here that just started woodworking! I'm gonna try one of these. How tall was yours?
Hello. 6 feet tall.
731 Woodworks awesome. Thank you!!!
At 3:25 that is NOT correct. You line up the 3/4” arrow with the other arrow, not the edge of the jig!
thanks
