What is this insanity? Microtech/Rike SOCOM Bravo collab.

- Some consider it an amazing knife. Some consider it a knife in the back. Controversy aside, the SOCOM Bravo collaboration is simply brilliant, and extremely well made.

One thing to consider is that these companies like Rike and We and Reate are not massive factories pumping out mass knives like Kershaw or Crkt. They are passionate small knife makers that happen to live in China. They have grown bigger due to the quality they initially put out. For an American knife brand to put their trust and reputation in the hands of these companies should speak VOLUMES about their integrity and skills.
I’ve told so many people this
I have 2 artisan cultery proponent xl's in copper and brass handles and will NEVER trade them off....totally BADASS knives.....
I think quality is only part of the issue. In that respect, I can say the knife I own from We is of solid quality. The issue is whether you care that your money is circulating in the US or going to the CCP.
You couldn’t be more right. Just look at reate. They put out quality on par with the best of them here in America for half the price using high end materials. I’ve carried a chaves ultramar redencion for a year straight, using it hard and it ate up the anise with zero issues at all. Their s35 holds an edge forever and the action is insane.
Nah it’s capitalism is all..they realize they are missing money
When I started watching your channel about 7, I couldn’t believe being able to say that today we would have this kind of quality and a knife coming out of China. It is incredible how the tides have turned. I still support American makers but it is incredible to see what they are able to produce
Well said, man. At the end of the day, it's a cutting tool, albeit an expensive one. If you don't like where it's produced, don't buy one. It's foolish to discredit an entire company with a stellar reputation because of one collaboration. Especially a collaboration with such a well-known and well-respected knife company.
Man, I really appreciated this video on numerous levels. I found it because I have the exact knife arriving in a few days. I also own several other MTs. Your review of the knife sounds like I made a very solid purchase-but the other points you made resonated far more deeply, and practically in my own business. I have a few businesses, but one is manufacturing very uniquely designed leashes for dogs. We’ve been wrestling with margins and trying to keep the price reasonable for a few years now. We source the raw materials/components from China, but have them hand sewn/constructed in the US. We don’t pretend/present them as being a completely US product, but we have stuck with wanting to assemble/sew them here-but this video stopped me in my tracks. The arguments you make are 100% spot on, and have convinced me to find a way to create the very best product at the very best price, regardless of geography or politics. This way I can save folks money, provide the safest/best leash, AND make enough money to keep everyone employed and the business sound. I really can’t thank you enough for the time, thought, and wisdom put into this video. Thanks so much. 🙏
Totally agree. As a Chinese & a knife enthusiast, I own 10+ microtechs and I HATE those counterfeit companies... I'm willing to support knife manufatures who are passionate about knives and try their best to produce innovative products for the market. By the way, spending money on a Rike collab knife ≠ give money to the CCP ≠ hinder U.S. national security and shit. These knives are considered "prohibited weapons" in China (which is stupid as hell) so companies like Rike and Reate are constantly walking on thin ice in the domestic market...
I think it's awesome that Microtech is being honest about this to the customers....alot of companies don't do that I bet!
Amen brother preach you nailed it. I think what Microtech is doing with this model is the wave of the future. They took one of their most popular designs, & made it even better, & most importantly made it accessible to the consumer. You can't please everyone, & the purists will always fear change, but this is change I can get use too.
Been watching your reviews for years, great video, as always 🤘
I really like the approach you took on your review of the Bravo. I own several Microtechs, quite a few. I saw this and had to have it...I've had mine now for about 3 weeks and absolutely love it, as you've said for that price!
Great job. I remember you from the watches on ShopNBC years ago. It’s good to see what you’re up to these days. Will definitely subscribe to your channel.
Well studied and explaned. I have the drop point. This blade is a blend of user and work of art. I also own Rike knives and the quality has been consistent with this offering. I respect Tony Marfione and the fact that he is the one who established the company, the quality and following and who continues to employ over 160 stateside. I feel that will only grow and be the separate line from any future overseas collabs.
Well said Jim , thank you. Oh and I'm getting one for sure!!
this is such a good insightful video on this subject. thank you!
Such a great take on this. Love it!
Beautiful knaf. Love the passion. Cause I agree, if I bought that knife for $300 I'd feel like I just got a 40% discount.
THANK YOU JIM!! you really hit the nail on the head with this review! Completely agree with everything you said! 👏👍
Just found your channel. Love the honesty. I am happy to be a new sub
Damn, Jim, your arguments in this video are fuckin' awesome & salient as hell.
I love my Benchmades & Protechs & I love Microtech. But I also love my Reate-made knives, WE, Civivi, & Kizer. I don't discriminate.
As Nick says, "Quality is about effort, not geography."
Man are you good on reviewing and explaining things, thank you
Long time supporter of Microtech agree with you on this
Jim is back, love it.
I too felt the same way upon initially hearing about this outsourced collab and was shocked MT was offering a non US made product however it is so beautiful and essentially a production version of a Marifione custom bravo so eventually i just had to check one out. Scored a drop point version directly from MT and once it was in my hands i was blown away by the quality! I own a few MTs including the socom elite and can say the bravo is an amazing folder and one of my nicest in the collection rivaling blades i own costing more than double. It is very well made and just gorgeous! For those on the fence i too say give it a chance.
Jim, One Of The Best Video's I Have Had The Pleasure To Watch
Thank you!
I LOVE it when Jim does Microtech🥰....oh baby it takes me Back
Just received my full serrated tanto edged Socom Bravo today. Only lasted a couple days after that then all versions were sold out.
What a knife. It matches well with my Socom mini Alpha fixed blade that I ordered thinking it was the "B".
Didn't cancel and glad that I didn't on the "A".
Best "in the moment" buy for some time. Thanks for the honest common (really rare) sense review.
Terrific review and explanation on why !!! ❤
Very well said Jim! Fully support your opinion and love this 🔪
Great review, brother. And you made some absolutely valid points.
Spot on Jim..... Got mine last week.... Love it.👊🏼👍🏼
I live about an hour away from Microtech and drove there to get mine and absolutely love it.
Dunno for how long I've been following you and yes you've put out great videos but this...if not the best, one of the best videos you've got. Very realistic about the whole production and world situation. I've been going back and forth on a topic I'm doing about clones and China made in my channel, because it really goes down into many truths and premises I wasn't aware of and your take on this is, at least to my opinion is both smart and objective. Thanks for a great vid and topic Jim 👏👌👍
Thank you, I very much appreciate that.
Totally agree Jim 100% I bought one direct and it is fantastic.
Well said brother!! As always very informative and great perspective!👍👍
Man I always had Metal Complex pegged as an extremely large beaded lanyard type of guy. Thanks for video Jim .
I need this in my collection...hope I can find one soon.
The box looks like there’s a Lunch Special in it from The Golden Wok
Microtec‘s new boxes are just sick
I love it I got mine today same one as this one great knife no doubt
I've owned my Microtech/Rike Anax for around 3 months. The fit and finish on this knife is outstanding. So much so that I did not hesitate one minute when I came across a new Socom Bravo with tanto full serrated blade in stock. That purchase will show up next week.
Controversy aside, this knife and knives like it always remind me how ludicrous automatic knife laws are. Without exaggeration, well-made manual actions are deployable every bit as quickly as any automatic on the market.
Controversy aside, that has nothing to do with the product at hand. Carry on, I'm just observing.
I am a retired custom knife maker with 47 years under my belt. You mentioned Enrique P. in the Vid. He and I along with Allen E. (Hell of a designer) Taught a few knife making classes together here in Tx. I think a lot of both of them. it They both do fine work and find their designs and construction top notch. I can' imaging either of them allowing anyone Chinese or otherwise to make a modal of theirs unless it is up to their standards.
I enjoyed the reviews on this knife, however, I got the political point in the first few minutes. I don't se the point of harping on the issue throughout the full vid. I would rather learn about the merits of the knife itself. Not he politics of it.
The issue the haters are missing is that this knife is NOT being made by the Chines Government, but rather by hard working artisans. How many people in the world hate any thing American because or any number of things our Government has done over the years. Is it your fault, mine, anyone here's fault. Why do we blame a worker because of the Country he lives in.
I can understand the feelings if it were an every day commodity, such as food, clothing, any number of essentials. You know, the same things you have in your home and everyday life. You know who you are Wally World shoppers! Get over it. Your as guilt as the next. Only difference is this is something you are passionate about. In other works, something you personally care about. Not something ordinary which sells by the millions and that we are all guilty of purchasing.
Let the man living in the glass house toss the first stone. Or STFU! Or not.
KnifeMaker
Great points, Thank you
I'm glad Microtech went with Riley. I originally feel that Rike had but been getting the respect and attention it deserves. I have every variant (7 or 8 different color schemes) of the tiny Hummingbird, 3 different integral Thor's (I don't remember which number, I know I have a small Thor 4 that had incredible action for such a small knife), and a couple other Rikes. I've never had any problems with any of those knives, and the contouring, engraving, and work done in the titanium is phenomenal!
Killer review of a great knife brother.
I knew nothing about this knife till today (I've been living under a rock for a bit). So when I saw it, I wanted it. However, when I finally found a site that still had it (the signature series), I saw that it was made in China. At first I thought it was a fake Microtrch, bit after looking at other sites & RUclips videos I realized it was a collaboration with a knife maker. Nevertheless, all the RUclipsrs that showed off this knife gushed all over it (including this video). So, I went back to that site and bought it. What I care about most is quality & getting a good deal. So, buying this knife was a no-brainer. Anyway, I can't wait to get it.
Your analogy with Harley Davidson is 100% spot on. The world has changed. And just doing the same old thing, because you have a small but very vocal core customer base that is afraid of change, is a recipe for bankruptcy if you listen to them for too long. You have to evolve, and that means changing your product, or, using another country's labor to offer a better product while driving the costs down.
Apple has been making their products in China for years, and regardless of what platform you prefer, you can't argue that the execution and the build quality isn't top notch.
Harley is finally starting to right the ship, and other companies like MT are taking notice. Harley has to look to the future. The Easy Rider generation is hanging up their chaps. The new generations don't know what the hell Easy Rider is. The nostalgia doesn't transfer to the TicTok generation...
I am a Ducati and Triumph fanboy, owned like 15 bikes just from those two brands alone. And for the first time in my 49 year life, I am at a Harley dealer checking out their Pan American...
This is the way forward for a company like Microtech, at least in part.
It’s funny you say that, I began riding on sportbikes but when I finally bought my first Ducati, it was the Diavel Carbon right when it was released.. the anti-Ducati, and the one all Ducatistas rallied against and lost their minds over. I’m not a brand loyalist, I buy what excites me and the Diavel did. And that controversial model has boomed into one of their top selling bikes each year and opened them up to a whole new market.
@@JimSkeltonKnives I love the Diavel, my wife had one and it was a blast. I wanted to take it out on a track day, just to show that you could track it. haha
But yeah, all the Ducatisti wailed when they got rid of the trellis frame on the Panigale, or the dry clutch, etc... Ever try to do a hard launch on a dry clutch? Its grabby as hell and not smooth at all. And dropping the frame from the Panigale made it a lighter, faster and better handling bike... But it was the same complaint... "this isn't what we are used to!"... Too bad, that's progress. You either keep moving the ball down the field or you go bye bye...
Couldn't agree with you more, nice review.
You used to convince my dad to buy watches and now you’re convincing me to buy knives!!!
Thank you and tell him Thank you from me as well!
Before anything else, I just wanted to say, I Rike the knife.
I just bought 3 thanks to this video
Enjoyed the talk...
Nice job Jim!
Love the lanyard hole btw
I really like how the Bravo looks, especially the DLC. Definitely would like to own one.
They will sell out. I am going to try and get one. I sold my HD Ultra for a BMW. My work boots are Nicks. For 575. I agree with you Jim 110%
The K1600B allllmost had me in its grasp. I’ve test ridden them 3 times now and almost made the leap. But the last ride was a good long ride and only then I really noticed how the seat angles you forward a little bit, not as bad as a sportbike of course, but it does lean you a little forward. And for me, that made it a no-go. But otherwise the comfort was great, and DAAAAMN the power and smooth delivery of that power on such a large bike was intoxicating. And the handling in the twisties was amazing.
LANYARD HOLES!!! **shakes fists at the sky**
😂😂😂
God u get me in thought, taste and humor; I follow talent regardless who is doin the work. Rike knives are so talented and this shows their capabilities. I sure wish I could hang out in your shop one day; u can be a lil shit but you literally make laugh out loud. That lanyard lasso and the wink made me bust out!
Best explanation I’ve heard so far, very eye opening. Thank you Jim!!!
This knife and the anax are two of their best knives. I have both and I’ll buy the next one they make too because they’re cool as shit and made amazingly well
That’s so,e great lighting!
Thank you!
It is really a great knife for the money!
Good God, what controversy?! This is a deliberate Chinese collab with a deliberate Chinese flavour. Why does everything have to be political? The govt doesn’t necessarily represent the people. Does our government represent all your values? Did the last one? You don’t think there are Chinese knife fanatics? You don’t think there are Chinese citizens who hate their government? Anyways, I love it and I’m getting one.
Thank You Jim for this Video. I purchased this k vfe
I hope you love it!
I'm impressed...i would have zero problems paying the price for one of these.
I want one, my favorite Microtech’s are the borka collaborations.
Big thankx from Germany 🇩🇪🤘🏻🤜🏻🤛🏻 Thanks for your little answer for all the knife addicted people who thinks only USA made knifes from USA Knife makers are the one and only... That's the biggest bullshit I've ever heard ! The China factory knife quality is grown up so much in the last five years. Some company's like WE and so, produce knifes with so good and excellent quality! In the End of the day, .... Buy and enjoy knifes you like ! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
That’s all good, but sorry to disappoint you, my shoes are not made in China.
I've never owned a Microtec, I have wanted to, but never have. I think the Socom is a great looking knife and this particular knife, "made in china" looks to be a real gem of a knife. Props to Rike knife, and the other Chinese companies creating such great knives.
You nailed it,
I just purchased one $400.00 then saw your video,
July 2023
A work of art. So many people are quick to say, "Eww Made in China." While owning China made products themselves. For example, your iphone.
They’re up $12 from what you paid and shipping is another $10-15. Still an insane value, which is why I got one. I’m not sure there’s another knife made currently that hits this price to performance/quality ratio.
Detent is so weak
This is an amazing knife, I have it, I would like to buy another...this is an amazing company...never had to deal with their CS yet...but their knives are extremely well priced in the market. I have Zt's Exclusive Spydercos, LC200N, Maxamet, 20cv.'s Cruwear, S35VNs in all their lines, etc etc, etc.....and honestly. Meah!..if you think a PM2 is worth 200 dollars and this isnt worth 300-400 your crazy...dont get in a rolls royce and complain about the price, stick to your Nissan...or take the bus...consider a Jake Knife for 550 or a Med for 900 and complain about the prices in a Microtech...mannn dont get me started...Jim your a magnificent salesman by the way! Great Video!
Rike has some of the best cnc ive ever seen.....Microtech does as well....LOVE the ALIEN
Then I think you’ll really enjoy the video that I’m uploading later today. It’s a group video of the Alien and Thor knives by Rike.
I bought a Peña custom 6 months ago it was great!
Artisan cutlery is releasing products this year that are going to be made in the USA, that’s something you don’t see often, Chinese companies doing some manufacturing in the US
CCP Economy > US Economy
Where can you find this information? That’s interesting
Look at Shot Show Videos.
I like Rike s build of the socom . They did a fine job , respect . I do t want to be a China hater becasue I grew up dealing with the old school crap from the 70 s and 80 s so it’s like a breath of fresh air to see progress . Good for everyone imo . American makers make just as nice or nicer but when I think of my home country I d rather be buying from a fellow American first and foremost . Having said that I buy too many Chinese knives compared to American . This is a fine line trying to explain how I feel about it so I’m going to stop here and sleep on it because for $330 o was super impressed compared to my $300 WE knives this thing is super value .
I think a lot of people bought 2 or more of these and they were gone so quick . Hopefully they’ll make them again . I don t see why not . I think Marfiano is doing cool things with the hardware screws despite what everyone else thinks it’s something I look for , like no screw on the clip , even better no screws on show side or just flush steel chicago always looks great with those flat head screws that r coin size and c shaped I always love to see those like a two sun 21 I think has the look .
Look at that ladies and gentlemen, there's a dragon on the blade!!
Great job. I love this collab.
had to come comment about the hat so dope wish I could purchase one
Well said.
Thank you

The USA is hands down 100% the best country in the world even though a lot of their own people don’t believe this!
We don’t fear competition, it will only make us better…
I own this knife and several China made knives and several USA made knives and several other knives from different other countries.
I love buying 100% USA made knives but it doesn’t mean that I’m not gonna try or enjoy what’s out there and compare… that’s how you get a more competitive market and companies get better, buy and enjoy what you like not what they tell you!
I feel like if you don’t get this knife just because it’s a collab with a Chinese company, then you’re a fool. I have both the bravo and the elite, and I love both. But the fit and finish on the bravo was so much better than my elite. The bravo was drop shut on opening, and has a crazy early yet solid lock up. I will say I had to strop the blade to get it to my likeness of sharp. My elite had a razor sharp blade out of the box, but my action was gritty and stiff. I took it apart and cleaned it then put KPL on the pivot. Now it’s perfect.
So both knives needed a little love and both knives had their up sides. For me, I prefer frame locks, titanium and tip up carry. So I carry my bravo more. That said, I have my elite in my pocket today at work. Again both great knives. Rike is a great company and it would be stupid to discredit just because they’re out of China
I’ve had mine for about a week now. It’s a nice knife. However I am sending back to Microtech support because the bottom screw on the front face protrudes just enough that it bugs me. The top screw on the same side you can’t feel if you rub your finger down the carbon scales. In my opinion I shouldn’t feel that, so I’m asking them to fix that.
You’re right, you shouldn’t feel that. I hope they get you squared away!
Anyone that loves knives has had to acknowledge the quality coming out of some companies in China....I imagine Tony as a maker and artisan himself, has even More appreciation for what these Chinese producers can do....so through that lens, we must understand his decision
$330 is too low
I love the fact that they decided to give Rile a shot with this knife. Everybody I’ve watched handling it has raved highly about it and the looks of this are stunning. The action also seems to be very very good.
Stayed patient and got a special edition version of this knife serated and signed by Mr. Marfione himself. Yay!!!
3,4 or 5 Guys? That’s worth it right there, the lasso knives I own now can only get 2 tops😂
If they are so unpopular because of where they are made why are sales on Ebay in the $450.00-$500.00 range for those that actually sold. I bought one on the Microtech Gear site and I am happy with it as well as all my USA made Microtech autos. I have been a Microtech collector since 2008.
I don't see this on the microtech web site, did they just do 1 run and I missed it? I sold a pair of delta's after a stroke, I miss them, this bravo looks great.
People can get mad, but the fact is that Chinese companies such as bestech, we knives, reate, rike knives, kansept, and some other companies are making better knives with just as good if not better quality control, materials, fit and finish, and price than what most American companies can do. I own many American made knives, but recently I’ve bought some Chinese made knives from American designers.
Chyna! I like the tanto blade. I have a Benchmade AFO 2 with a tanto blade I really like. Sadly Benchmade discontinued it.
Great blade, great companies...
That's sexy as hell and sounds amazing! Rike is a solid knife company and it's nice to see them partnering with a great American company. Hopefully they can keep these available, that's always been my issue with Microtech, you just can't find them. Now I want to see John Wick with a Socom on a rope cutting fools!
Closer to the socom delta am I right 😉. I got the drop point partial serrated. Bronze pivot. Really happy.
Does your example have a super weak detent , can you shake the blade out easily ?
Not at all. Perfect detent and action.
@@JimSkeltonKnives thanks Jim
I was looking for this online. I found this exact knife for $500. Huge markup.
Contact Microtech directly. They're selling these direct for the time being.
@@bryanyeso4965 Thanks!
Bottom line microtech is so good and so sought after they cannot even come close to keeping up with demand. Anyone who has been looking for any particular Microtech knife knows this. A collab like this is the only way to try and meet demand without charging thousands each knife.
Your best bet to find Microtechs isn’t online but local dealers. There are 3 in my area and combine have over 100 knives. Go online and you can’t find any
Tell 'em, Jim!
How have the haters not coined this one the chicom bravo?!
I love the knife, it is absolutely beautiful The only problem for me is is Rike going to carry this knife in they're lineup internationally too? becouse Microtech is totaly unavailable as a brand here in Holland ( it has to do with them making mostly automatics witch are banned here) and i do not like importing one myself and pay a premium duty tax wise.
Im a machinist and a knife collector. I was an early adopter of high end manufacturer china knives because I could see the time and attention to detail they’ve put into the knives they’ve produced. They’ve come a long way over the last few years . I’m a proud American machinist but also love seeing and giving credit for things machined very well and they are doing a great job .
