Thank you very much for the video. I've had mine for years but the blades have been a little off since I got them sharpened. I think I will follow your example and take the tables off and clean it. They may be misaligned. Your English is much better than my (non-existent) German. The term for the tool is just "puller" or bearing puller. There is no special name in English that I am aware of. I am a motor mechanic by trade and mechanical engineer by profession, but I suppose there is always something I don't know. I've never heard it called anything else. Oh, and I believe mine is an early example and is 240 volts single phase. That is the common power supply here in Australia.
A very usefull video!! I am about to replace the bearing of my HC260C (1992). But before starting I want order the new bearing. I could not hear or read the article number of the NSK bearing you used in the video. Hope you can inform me.
Hello, thank You for the positive feedback. I do not longer own the machine and also do not have any exact ordering numbers with me any more. But the bearings were absolutly easy to get. I simply removed the from the machine and then ordered new ones based on the numbers I found on the bearings. They were delieverd within two days and that was good enough for me. Good luck!
Good day need advice when I put back the chain and pulley band after a replaced a broken part now it keeps jumping of. So can't use the tickenniser any advice would be appreciated
This is a great video. I’ve just acquired one of these machines and am doing the same thing at the moment. I wanted to ask, I don’t know how the actual adjustment works of the infeed table height when jointing. It has the star knob but I don’t know what’s supposed to happen when you turn it. It has very limited travel. This video was really helpful.
Hi, the star knob is usually not so easy to move because it moves the complete infeed table up and down at an angle of ~30° alongside a plain bearing. If You turn it right, the infeed table should move in the direction of the planer shaft while also moving up relative to the top of the planer shaft. If You turn the knob left, the infeed table moves in the opposite direction. If the knob cannot be turned or you need to much force the consider to remove the bars holding the infeed table and clean the sliding component. You can see the bars in the video at minute 18:00 laying on the outfeed table. The left plain bearing is also visible an is covered with yellow grease while the right plain bearing is cleaned already. When You mount the table again You should make sure that the table moves at a reasonable force at the star knob to ensure that it does not change it's position while plaining. Have fun!
werkraum-es this may sound stupid... but does this adjustment with the star knob happen while the infeed table is locked in with the 2 side levers? Or while the table is loose, making the adjustment and then locking it in?
@@vaughanchapman2930 Hello Vaughan! If you look at minute 22:42 then you see the infeed table at the right with the star knob. The outfeed table on the left is hold by the two levers. Both are not connected to each other at all Did you oil the long screw turned by rhe star knob underneath the infeed table? Some wd40 or similar should enable you to turn the scew at least a little bit. If this is possible then you remove the infeed table screws and should be able to clean everything. Then you fasten the screws again till the infeed table can be moved by the knob smoothly. Next you have to adjust the outfeed table to be coplanar with the infeed table and once you have adjusted the infeed table to around 1mm below the zero height you are good to go. Greetings
werkraum-es thank you so much for this. Soon after I posted this comment I realised the error I made. I’ll start reassembly next week so I’ll see if everything works as it should. Always thankful for your help! Best regards
Hallo Werkraum ..
Great tutorial ! How would you compare hammer to elektra beckum in terms of a results you can achieve? I know it so much easier to operate and set up but can you have any better results seen on a wood? What’s the real advantage of the hammer in your opinion?
Hi, thank You for Your comment. The main difference between the machines in my opinion is the reliability of the results. The Hammer machine actually belongs to a different class of machines and the price is a factor of four higher. It is much heavier and much more rigid. The exactness of the desks is constant whereas the EB needs adjustments and checks before every usage. The EB is very strong and leaves a good surface finish if the blades are sharp and correctly adjusted. The Hammer with the Silent Power system simply always leaves a very good finish and the blades do not get dull. There is also no adjustment needed since the heights of the blades is constant and exact, always. With respect to dust collection the Hammer is better even though also the EB is fine and there is nothing to complain. To summarize: The EB is a good machine for the price. If the machine is perfectly adjusted, the blades are sharp and everything is carefully checked before every usage, the results are good. The Hammer is simpler to use, I had to do zero adjustment till now. You turn it on, do the job, switch it off and forget it. The results are always better compared to the EB and you never plane a piece twice because You were to lazy to check everything is O.K. Hence the choice depends on the budget you have and the frequency of use.
At 13:14 how did you take off the plastic gears? (Black) I’m repairing/cleaning my HC260C-M and removal isn’t easy. Don’t want to damage them. Also, what grease do you use on the white gears below? Thanks
Hello Seth, I do not remember anything super special about this gear. I was able to pull it off and there were no special locks on it. What I recommend in such cases is a set of this: smile.amazon.de/gp/product/B01HD22IMA Normally these kind of tools do not scratch the surface and do not break things so easily. Grease on the white gears? Well... in case You grease them the dust binds to the gears easily and increases the pressure on the teeth. Best suited is some teflon spray since it isn't sticky and still provides lubrication. Greetings. E.
Hi Thanks for the video, as I have been meaning to do a similar issue to my model as well , I see you don't have in the other end the drill Chuck which does the Loose tenons and mortises and dowelling etc in other end which has a sliding table fitted under the wind up bed , which is very handy to have , do you use this attachment much as i do , thanks for upload.
Hi Tom! You are right. Actually I do not own this attachment for the machine. It was optional and when I bought the machine it wasn't included. I normally use dominos for loose tenons joints. But for the repair itself it seems to make not a big difference. The drill chuck must be screwed onto the planer head and by this it should only make one extra step in the process. Greetings
Hi, if You consider to change the bearings, only, then any company that can get You the right type of bearing will do. If You need more specialised pats, then You have to know that the company Elektra Beckum was sold to the company Metabo. Metabo is still able to deliver many parts for the machine. They may also have an import to the kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Howdy, I have a favor to ask. I recently acquired the same machine you have, except mine is missing all electrical connections to the motor, and both the start and run capacitors. I would love a little guidance on how to get my machine running if you have any thoughts. I'm hoping you could share any knowledge you have or possibly a photograph of the internals of your machine, I would be much obliged. If you find this request to be inconvenient, no worries. I appreciate the content your sharing regardless. Thanks.
Hi Billy! No problem in asking and I wouldn't mind to take some photos but I sold the machine last year. Maybe You recognized my new machine in the background already. But maybe the manual of the machine can help You. www.manualslib.de/download/47772/Elektra-Beckum-Hc-260-M.html On the last but one page there is a wiring diagram for different versions (230V/400V) including the switch (which shall be a type that stays off in case of loss of power supply for safety reasons). And moreover some years ago it was still no problem to get spare parts from Metabo for the machine. So overall there should be no problem in getting it running again. Good luck, Eckart
Well. That You cannot find any parts for this type of machine is interesting, but has nothing to do with the content of this video. Since You comment in polish and less people speak polish, your very negative emojis are misleading and indicate for most of the visitors of this video, that the video itself is bad.
